2025 Jeep Avenger now Australia's cheapest electric SUV after $16,000 EOFY discount

7NEWS08-05-2025

The Jeep Avenger can now be had for as little as $40,000 drive-away – around $16,000 less than before – making it Australia's most affordable electric SUV.
The entry-level version of the American off-road brand's first EV, the Longitude, is now being offered for $40,000 drive-away including premium paint as part of an end of financial year offer, 'while stocks last'.
That's down from the $49,990 before on-roads price Jeep announced in September, just prior to the Avenger's local launch in November, and down from the $53,990 plus on-roads price the company first announced in March 2024.
Reduced prices offered on the Jeep Avenger are available now. Contact a dealer via CarExpert for the best deal or call our Concierge team on 1300 587 992.
At its launch, Jeep indicated it may offer further Avenger price cuts to keep the model competitive in Australia's rapidly evolving EV market.
But throw in premium paint (normally a $990 option) and statutory on-road costs (about $5000 depending on the state or territory in which you live), and the new base price represents a saving of about $16,000.
Because the similarly sized Mini Aceman is officially classed as a car and not an SUV, the Avenger arrived late last year as Australia's first all-electric light SUV.
And at $40k drive-away, it's now Australia's most affordable battery-powered SUV, undercutting the much larger BYD Atto 3 (from $39,990 plus on-roads) and even upcoming pint-size Hyundai Inster (from $39,000 before on-roads).
The Avenger also undercuts the popular MG 4 hatch (from $41,156 drive-away when it's not on special for $36,990), but not other small electric hatchbacks like the GWM Ora and BYD Dolphin (from $29,990 plus on-roads).
Jeep is also offering 'substantial factory bonuses' at the discretion of its dealers, but prices of the mid-range Avenger Limited and top-shelf Summit officially remain at $54,990 and $60,990 plus on-roads – $3000 less than the prices initially announced by Jeep early last year.
Jeep Australia sold just seven Avengers last month (April) and so far this year it has found only 21 buyers for its first EV, which is expected to be joined by mild-hybrid and full-hybrid 4xe powertrains locally.
Currently, all Australian-market Avengers are powered by a single electric motor producing 115kW of power and 260Nm of torque, fed by a 51kWh battery offering a claimed driving range of at least 391km (WLTP).

US government throws more weight behind Dateline rare earths

Dateline Resources has scored another major political win in its bid to develop the Colosseum rare earths project in California after United States Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum publicly backed the mine's revival in a national television appearance. Appearing on Fox News over the weekend, Burgum, who is also chairman of the powerful National Economic Development Council (NEDC), declared the restart of the Colosseum project as 'pivotal' in securing America's critical mineral future. The Secretary underscored the importance of reducing US reliance on overseas rare earth supply chains and spotlighted the Trump administration's mission to ramp up domestic mineral production. 'With this support, we will do everything we can to help unleash American rare earth independence.' Dateline Resources managing director Stephen Baghdadi Shortly after, Dateline's management met with Burgum in Washington DC, where federal support for the Colosseum project has been put on the fast track. The Secretary has directed the NEDC's top brass to coordinate efforts across US government agencies to expedite the project's development, effectively giving Dateline the green light for federal-level collaboration. Dateline Resources managing director Stephen Baghdadi said: 'We thank Secretary Burgum for his leadership and continued engagement with our industry. We intend to work closely with the Trump administration to implement a comprehensive strategy to strengthen the US critical minerals supply chain. With this support, we will do everything we can to help unleash American rare earth independence and ensure the United States secures a reliable, domestic source of these essential materials.' Dateline's fully owned Colosseum project sits in California's Walker Lane Trend and already has a juicy gold resource of 27.1 million tonnes at 1.26 grams per tonne for 1.1 million ounces of gold. Last month, the company upped the gold price assumption on its gold project scoping study to US$2900 (A$4461) per ounce to deliver a whopping net present value of US$550M (A$846M) and a healthy payback of just 19 months. The project's potential for a rare earths discovery has lit up the government's radar, given its striking geological similarities to the US's only active rare earths mine - the nearby fabled Mountain Pass mine.

New ute is Mahindra's 'number one dream program'

The Mahindra Pik-Up is the model on which the Indian automaker built its reputation in Australia, but production ceased in the last few months and the brand's new global ute is now well into its final development stage, having undergone testing of more than 600 test mules over several years. Having spotted the camouflaged new ute around Mahindra's testing and development centre at Chennai in India last week, CarExpert spoke to Velusamy R, the president of Automotive Technology & Product Development at Mahindra, about the current status of the vital new model. 'It is the number one dream program for us right now. It's being run with a separate team, a dedicated team,' said Velusamy R. Hundreds of new car deals are available through CarExpert right now. Get the experts on your side and score a great deal. Browse now . 'Last time [he addressed media in 2024] I said I am starting the engineering. This time I'm telling you I'm starting the development. In fact, it's well into the development.' According to Velusamy R, Mahindra's new ute will be built on the same 'Mahindra Glide' platform as the Thar-Roxx, which in the new Thar application has independent double-wishbone suspension up front and penta-link suspension with a Watt's link at the rear. 'It's coming out of that platform, the latest generation, generation four. Of course, you know our diesel engines and you know our gasoline engine. You know the automatic transmission that we have, manual transmission that we have. All of them [will be available].' In the Thar-Roxx, the platform is capable of 650mm of fording depth and impressive approach and departure angles, which will likely carry over to some extent for the new ute. While confirming the availability of a diesel automatic for the new ute, Velusamy R ruled out any electric variant of the new Mahindra Pik-Up. 'No, not quite. It needs a different architecture,' he responded in regards to development of a hybrid ute from Mahindra. 'As in, you can't use the architecture, but I think those who do not have a good diesel engine, they do a hybrid gasoline, but it's very expensive. But we think a good diesel engine with an automatic gearbox is the best for a pickup.' Mahindra engineers came to Australia last year to benchmark a variety of best-selling utes, which the company says has helped shape development of its own ut development program. The company says it has been developed to meet global safety crash test requirements, including those of ANCAP, and that it will be the first Mahindra product to be developed for global markets ahead of the Indian automaker's domestic market. The new ute will likely make its first public appearance later this year, before arriving in Australia sometime in 2026. MORE: Everything Mahindra
