3 tornadoes confirmed in Coweta, Carroll counties during Tuesday storms
The National Weather Service has confirmed three tornadoes touched down in metro Atlanta on Tuesday afternoon.
The NWS confirmed an EF-1 tornado touched down in Coweta County on Tuesday afternoon.
The NWS says the tornado had maximum winds of 90 miles per hour.

The NWS also confirmed two EF-0 tornadoes in Carroll County. They say one was in the southern part of the county and the other in the far western part of the county.
Those storms had maximum winds of 75 miles per hour and 85 miles per hour.
On Tuesday, several tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings were issued across metro Atlanta as storms moved through.

Earlier this week, several tornadoes touched down in Gordon and Chattooga counties.
Severe Weather Team 2 Chief Meteorologist Brad Nitz says there have been 23 tornadoes in the Channel 2 Action News viewing area so far this year.

'I was asking Trump about it, and he said…'He knows better than to lecture me.' And then there was a pause,' before he added, ''This is not a five star army general,'' she recalled. 'And it just, it made me laugh. Whether he was trying to make me laugh, I don't know.' 'I've seen him try to make crowds laugh,' she explained, but this was different. 'I think he was more just—being sarcastic.' Haberman then weighed in on whether anything Trump does is intentional. 'It is more calculated than it seems sometimes, and then other times it's not,' she said of his social media outbursts. 'The problem is figuring out which one is which.'

The Trump Admin Reportedly Wants An Office of Remigration. That's Alarming.
A sweeping plan to revamp the State Department would establish an Office of Remigration, a term popularized by far-right activists in Europe and white nationalists who want the mass removal of immigrants. The proposed new office was included in a 100-page-long notice to Congress from the State Department, which has been viewed by publications including CNN, Wired and The Handbasket. That document reportedly describes the Office of Remigration as a 'hub for immigration issues and repatriation tracking' aimed at facilitating 'interagency coordination' on 'removals/repatriations.' It also reportedly details using State Department funds to help advance 'the voluntary return of migrants to their country of origin or legal status.' The term 'remigration' is an alarming one that's effectively 'a euphemism for ethnically cleansing non-white people from Western countries,' Christopher Mathias previously wrote for HuffPost. 'Remigration is an immigration policy embraced by extremists that calls for the removal of all migrants—including 'non-assimilated' citizens—with the goal of creating white ethnostates in Western countries,' Wired's David Gilbert explains. It's been promoted by Germany's far-right party, Alternative für Deutschland, as well as Austria's far-right Freedom Party, and the term is rooted in the premise of forcibly deporting non-white people from Europe regardless of citizenship status, according to the Global Project Against Hate and Extremism. The Freedom Party, for instance, has backed the 'remigration of uninvited foreigners' with the goal of promoting a more 'homogenous' country, The Associated Press reports. It's also a term that Trump and his senior adviser Stephen Miller have used before. '[We will] return Kamala's illegal migrants to their home countries (also known as remigration),' Trump wrote in a September 2024 Truth Social post. 'I will save our cities and towns in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and all across America.' 'THE TRUMP PLAN TO END THE INVASION OF SMALL TOWN AMERICA: REMIGRATION!' Miller added on X. Experts note that remigration is often promoted in conjunction with the racist and conspiratorial 'Great Replacement' theory, which claims that elites are trying to displace white people with people of color in Western countries. Far-right leaders believe the answer to this supposed threat is to remove immigrants and people of color wholesale. The White House and State Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Lynch, Mfume enter race for top Oversight Committee Dem
Two additional Democrats, Rep. Kweisi Mfume (D-Md.) and Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-Mass.), on Thursday launched their bids for the top Democratic spot on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. Mfume, in a letter announcing his candidacy, stated he was 'prepared to meet that moment; as my lifelong friend, successor, and predecessor Elijah Cummings did when he was Oversight Chair under the first twisted Trump administration.' 'The dismantling of our democracy at the hands of the Trump administration and his congressional enablers demands Committee leadership that meets this moment with vigor, experience, principle, and resolve,' Mfume wrote in a 'Dear Colleague' letter. In a letter by Lynch obtained by Punchbowl News, he highlighted his work with the late Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.), who stepped back from his daily responsibilities as ranking member earlier this year due to his battle with cancer. Connolly died earlier this month. 'As we all know, Gerry Connolly was all about the work, and I am honored to have earned his trust and endorsement to continue this important work and lead Oversight Democrats at a moment when our decisions and our actions over the coming months may determine the course of our American experiment,' Lynch said in his letter. He also mentioned his more than two decades of experience on the Oversight Committee, which would make him 'well-prepared to manage an extremely talented group of Oversight Democrats as we fight like hell against every action taken by the Trump Administration to curtail individual rights, dismantle our democratic institutions and unload the costs of reckless economic plans onto the backs of America's workers and vulnerable communities.' Earlier on Thursday, Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.) was the first Democrat to officially announce his candidacy. 'From the Trump administration's attacks on the rule of law, weaponizing the government against its critics, and decimating the services our constituents rely upon–there is a clear and immediate threat to our democracy,' Garcia wrote in a 'Dear Colleague' letter. 'As citizens, patriots, and members of Congress, we must organize, fight back, and defend the principles of freedom, equality, and justice. I'm ready to help lead that fight.' Both Mfume, 76, and Lynch, 70, had voiced interest in the role before announcing their bids. Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas), 44, has also expressed interest. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), who lost her bid for the position to Connolly late last year, passed on running earlier this month.
