Chicago weather: Early drizzle to clear out, bring sunshine later today
CHICAGO - The day started with a bit of light rainfall, but it's not expected to affect much of your Sunday.
Fox 32 Meteorologist Mark Strehl has the forecast.
What to expect
The cloudy skies to start the day are expected to clear off as we get into the early afternoon.
High temperatures will be coolest along the lake with an omnipresent breeze coming off Lake Michigan. Temps will be in the 50s along the North Shore and even down to the South Shore and Northwest Indiana.
Away from the lake, temperatures are expected to be warmer. The high temperature at Midway Airport will be around 64 degrees and about 67 degrees at O'Hare.
The best chance of warmer temperatures will be up toward Rockford and the Wisconsin state line.
What's next
For your Memorial Day, the day will start out with lots of sunshine with clouds increasing into the afternoon.
The best chances of showers will be in central part of the state into maybe LaSalle County.

Chicago weather: Mostly dry stretch ahead with near 90° highs today
The Brief Rain chances remain low across the Chicago area through early next week, with most models showing little to no accumulation. Temperatures will stay warm, with highs reaching near 90 today and settling into the 80s through the weekend. A nearby front may bring isolated showers or storms, but most areas will stay dry heading into Flag Day and Father's Day. CHICAGO - To say that computer models are unimpressed with prospects for much rainfall in the next week would be an understatement. To give you an idea, the U.S. model known as the GFS shows anywhere from zero rain to about a 10th of an inch in Chicagoland. The European model shows anywhere from zero to about a half inch of rainfall through Monday night. The main message here is to stress that it will be mostly dry moving forward right on through the holiday weekend. That being said, there will be a front nearby which brings at least some risk of a shower or storm from time to time. What we know Today will likely be the warmest day in the next week with highs flirting with 90 degrees. The wild card will once again be the quantity of wildfire smoke in the sky, which at this point does not look to be great. This would favor the warmer solution. Tonight, any threat of thunderstorms looks to be confined to our far-northern communities. Tomorrow will continue to be very warm with highs generally in the mid 80s. However, there will be slightly cooler temperatures near the lake and in our far-north communities. There is only a small chance of a pop-up shower during the afternoon. A similar temperature regime is likely on Friday. Over the weekend there is only a small chance of showers and thunderstorms for Flag Day and then Father's Day on Sunday. When is the summer solstice 2025? What to know about the longest day of the year
With the cool temperatures and rain in the region over Memorial Day weekend, it seems like summer weather will never reach Connecticut. But it's much closer than it seems, with the summer season right around the corner, which kicks off with the summer solstice. The summer solstice is when the sun reaches its highest point in the sky for the year, and marks the beginning of summer. It is the longest day of the year, with the most daylight. "The summer solstice occurs at the moment the earth's tilt toward the sun is at a maximum," according to the National Weather Service website. "Therefore, on the day of the summer solstice, the sun appears at its highest elevation with a noontime position that changes very little for several days before and after the summer solstice." It will occur this year on June 20, 2025. It begins with the summer solstice on June 20. The summer solstice is not on the same day every year. "The solstices also do not land on the same calendar day every year because the astronomical year is 365.25 days long," according to the website. "As such, the summer solstice for the Northern Hemisphere — also known as the June solstice — currently shifts between June 20, 21 and 22." Conversely, the summer solstice in the Southern Hemisphere happens on Dec. 21 or 22 each year. The National Weather Service is predicting another hot summer in the northeast this year. The NWS three-month outlook, issued April 17, shows that temperatures in New England are likely to be 50-60% above normal in May, June and July of 2025. Precipitation in the Northeast is also expected to be slightly above normal by about 35-40%. The Farmer's Almanac also predicted above average temperatures in the Northeast this summer. In New England, "broiling" heat is in the forecast. "Heat will be in full force by July, with much of the nation sweltering with above- to high-above average temperatures," the forecast says.
