Air India crash survivor's family ‘in shock' after ‘miraculous' escape
The family of Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, the sole survivor of the Air India crash, has said it was a 'miracle' that he survived the doomed flight which saw the other 241 passengers onboard perish.
Nayan Kumar Ramesh, Vishwash's brother, said his sibling called their father seconds after the crash, telling the family that he was unsure how he escaped.
Vishwash also enquired about his younger brother Ajay, with whom he had been traveling back from Ahmedabad.
Speaking to Sky News outside his Leicestershire home on Thursday (12 June), Nayan said: 'It's a miracle he survived but what about the other miracle for my other brother?'.
He said that his family is in a state of shock and the incident has made him 'scared to even sit in a plane'.

Sadly, this year there have been 14 other crashes that have resulted in the death of passengers or crew members. San Diego: Cessna 414 Six people including the pilot's wife died after the 1970 Cessna 414 crashed into the Pacific Ocean on June 8. The twin-engine crashed at around 12.30pm shortly after take-off. It took off from San Diego and was heading to Phoenix. Honduras: Aerolinea Lanhsa Flight 018 Lanhsa Airlines Flight 018 attempted to take-off from Juan Manuel Gálvez International Airport to Golosón International Airport in La Ceiba, located in the mainland department of Atlántida. However, the aircraft ended up overshooting the runway before plunging into the sea on March 17. The plane's pilot, Luis Araya, the co-pilot, Francisco Lagos, and 10 passengers were killed. San Diego: Cessna Citation II On May 22, a plane crashed while approaching a runway in San Diego having departed from Wichita. Six people died, including the pilot. Alaska: Bering Air Flight 445 All 10 people on board a Bering flight in Western Alaska were killed in the fatal crash. On February 6, the flight disappeared and after an intense air and ground search was found wrecked by the US Coast Guard. Philadelphia: Med Jets Flight 056 On January 31, an air ambulance crashed in Northeast Philadelphia. Six people on board the plane died as well as one person on the ground. An American Airlines passenger jet collided with an Army helicopter in the air. Both vehicles plunged into the Potomac River killing everyone on board. Australia: Cessna 208 Three people were killed when the privately-owned plane plunged into the water near Thompson Bay, 19km off the coast of Perth. The seaplane crashed on January 7 shortly after take-off. The wingtip hit the water before the plane dived nose-first into the ocean at Phillip Rock at the entrance of Thompson Bay as tourists on Rottnest Island reacted in horror. Brazil: Cessna 525 The pilot was killed when a private plane overshot the runway at Ubatuba Airport in Brazil on January 9. Sudan: Light Air Services Beechcraft 1900 On January 29, a plane carrying oil workers crashed under unknown circumstances. 20 people died and the entire plane was destroyed. The flight was heading to Juba in South Sudan. Venezuela: Cessna 550 Citation II Two minutes after take-off the private plane crashed on January 29. All three people on board the flight were killed and the plane was destroyed. Philippines: Beechcraft 350 On February 6, the plane, operated by the US defense contractor Metrea crashed into a rice field. All four people on board the flight died. Arizona: Learjet A private jet owned by Mötley Crüe singer Vince Neil crashed on February 10. The crash killed the 78-year-old pilot. One person was killed when the plane crashed into a dense forest area on February 14. Arizona: Cessna 172 & Lancair On February 19, two planes collided midair at the Maran Regional Airport. Two elderly people were killed in the collision.

'Mystery object seen flying off Air India plane' seconds before tragic crash
Footage of the Air India plane crash shows a dark object seemingly getting detached from the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner and flying into the air before the plane explodes into flames A video that emerged after Thursday's tragic plane crash in India appears to show an object flying from the aircraft just moments before it went down, killing 241 people on board. Footage filmed in Ahmedabad, in the state of Gujarat, shows a dark object seemingly becoming detached from the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner before the plane crashes and explodes into flames. While it's not clear exactly what the object was, there has been speculation that it could be one of the plane's emergency doors - possibly the one next to which the only survivor of the crash, British man Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, 40, was sitting. The cause of the crash hasn't been established yet and investigators are analysing the footage while looking for the debris at the site where the plane came down. The investigation is also understood to be focusing on the engine, flaps and landing gear. The plane's digital flight data recorder, or black box, was recovered from a rooftop near the crash site and India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau said it had begun its work with "full force". The black box recovery marks an important step forward in the investigation, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said in a social media post. The device will reveal information about the engine and control settings, in addition to what the voice recorder will show about the cockpit conversations, Paul Fromme, a mechanical engineer with the UK-based Institution of Mechanical Engineers said in a statement. "This should show quickly if there was a loss of engine power or lift after take-off and allow a preliminary determination of the likely cause for the crash," said Fromme, who heads the professional association's Aerospace Division. Separately, the country's civil aviation regulator ordered Air India to conduct additional inspections of its Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 Dreamliners equipped with General Electric's GEnx engines. That includes checks of the fuel parameters, cabin air compressor, engine control system, hydraulic system and take-off parameters, the order said. Investigators on Friday continued searching the site of the crash - one of India's worst aviation disasters - and Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the lone surviving passenger in hospital. Sharing details of his experience before the crash, Vishwash, who was in seat 11A, explained the lights on the plane "started flickering" just seconds after the plane took off - and shortly after, it crashed. The British national told the Hindustan Times: "When I saw the exit, I thought I could come out. I tried, and I did. Maybe the people who were on the other side of the plane weren't able to." He added: "I don't know how I survived. I saw people dying in front of my eyes – the air hostesses, and two people I saw near me … I walked out of the rubble." After Vishwash was confirmed to be the only survivor, his family also said he had "no idea" how he escaped alive. While they were glad that he did, they were left heartbroken as his brother Ajay, who was also on the flight, didn't survive. Another brother of the pair, Nayan Kumar Ramesh, 27, spoke from outside the family home in Leicester and said: "We were just shocked as soon as we heard it. I last spoke to him yesterday morning. We're devastated, just devastated. He said I have no idea how I exited the plane." A relative called Jay added that Vishwash spoke to his dad following the crash. He said: "He's got some injuries on his face. He was painted in blood. He was pretty much covered in blood, that's what his dad said." He added: "He's doing well I think. It's a big shock. I don't have many words to describe the incident."

Leicester family's anguished wait for news after Air India crash
A family from Leicester say they are waiting for news about a loved one who was thought to have been on a plane that crashed in than 240 people were killed on Thursday when a Boeing 787 bound for Gatwick crashed shortly after take off in Rafik, 25, from the Belgrave area of the city, was believed to have been on the flight after visiting India for a week to celebrate Eid with his brother Farhan Rafik, 22, said the family was still hoping to receive a call from him. Farhan said: "We are all hoping he will come back, we are still hoping that from somewhere he will pick up our call and say 'I am alive and I am safe', but we are still waiting for that call." The 22-year-old from Leicester said he and Faizan were "always together" and added people would "feel great" in his company. He added Faizan dedicated time to charity work and was "respectful" of were 169 Indian nationals, 53 Britons, seven Portuguese nationals and one Canadian on the flight when it Ramesh, also from Leicester, was the sole survivor and escaped the wreckage through an opening in the fuselage.
