The Mission: Impossible series has had many iconic characters over the years, such as Luther Stickell, Julia Meade and William Brandt. But one of the most beloved characters in the franchise is Ethan Hunt's man behind the computer, Benji Dunn, played by Simon Pegg. The actor recently talked about Tom Cruise's love for flying helicopters and revealed some secret talents of his own.
While making an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live to promote Mission: Impossible Final Reckoning, Simon shared some stories of his good friend and co-star Cruise and how he behaves like Ethan Hunt in real life as well. 'For him that's his life. I remember having to mow a landing pad in my garden for him to come to my house for a cup of tea. The chopper landed; he came in and showed us clips from the movie. He even asked my daughter and wife, 'Do you want a tour around London?' and they said, 'No.''

The actor added that slowly and surely working with Cruise rubbed off on him, and he started working out to look better in the films. According to Pegg, after looking at his transformation, Cruise decided to give him a rather appreciative nickname. 'The first iteration of Benji was a little tubby. I got in shape for Ghost Protocol, and I realised that I love doing this. So I started working out even more, and then Tom started calling me 'six-pack Peggle''.
In the same interview the actor revealed that Cruise isn't the only superstar he shares the big stage with and talked about how he played the Glastonbury Music Festival with the biggest band in the world, Coldplay. 'The first time I played with the band was in London, and whenever they used to play in the city, Chris Martin would tell me to play the harmonica with them on the stage. I used to get so nervous, and eventually I just switched to the tambourine because you cannot hit a bum note with that. Every now and then I go and see them, and they hand me the instrument on a silver cushion; I play one song, feel what it's like to be a rockstar, and then go home.'
Apart from the Mission: Impossible franchise, Pegg has many impressive notches on his belt, like Shaun of the Dead (2004), Hot Fuzz (2007), The Adventures of Tintin (2011) and Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012). He is seen reprising his role as tech expert Benji Dunn in the latest Mission: Impossible, Dead Reckoning.

Tom Cruise's Final ‘Mission Impossible' Tops China Box Office

Tom Cruise's film is back on top in China. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning posted the biggest opening for a US film in the country this year, defying trade and geopolitical tensions between Washington and Beijing. Paramount Global's eighth installment in the action franchise earned $25.2 million across 11,847 locations in China during the opening weekend, the studio said in a statement. The film is likely to become the top-performing US release in the country for 2025, with Warner Bros Entertainment Inc.'s A Minecraft Movie so far holding the lead with about $29 million since its April 4 debut, according to ticketing platform Maoyan. While the Final Reckoning opening is comparable to its 2023 predecessor, the latest film's performance stands out in a year when most US titles have struggled to gain traction in China. Minecraft opened with $14.5 million, while Walt Disney Co.'s Thunderbolts and Lilo & Stitch brought in $10.5 million and $8.7 million, respectively, on opening weekend. The solid performance of Cruise's new film, which he's said will be his last Mission: Impossible, suggests that Hollywood pictures have withstood rising tensions between the world's two largest economies. In April, Beijing said it would 'moderately reduce' the number of US films allowed into the market as part of a broader response to trade friction. While initial negotiations between Washington and Beijing began shortly after, talks have since stalled. The Mission: Impossible series, starring Cruise as secret agent Ethan Hunt, has long been emblematic of China's enthusiasm for Hollywood. In 2018 — when US films reached a peak share of the Chinese market — the sixth installment of the franchise opened to around $77 million in China. But that momentum slowed after the first Trump administration sparked off a trade clash, leading to fewer releases and diminished returns. Under the Chinese government's national agenda to boost consumption, China has been gradually allowing more foreign films in an effort to help stimulate spending while moviegoers are visiting theaters at malls. Mission Impossible 8 Box Office Day 16: Tom Cruise's Film Bounces Back, Mints Rs 90 Crore

Last Updated: Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One has grossed Rs 90 crore in India. Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, the film marks Cruise's final outing as Ethan Hunt. Tom Cruise is back to doing what he does best — defying gravity and box office expectations. On Day 16, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One pulled off yet another high-octane stunt at the Indian box office. After a mid-week slowdown, the film has bounced back with style, raking in a cool Rs 90 crore so far. Tom Cruise's Mission Impossible 8 entered the third week in India on a strong note. Directed by Christopher McQuarrie and co-written with Erik Jendresen, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning marks Tom Cruise's final outing as the legendary spy Ethan Hunt. The film also stars Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Henry Czerny, and Angela Bassett. The film pocketed Rs 3.65 crore on Day 15 (third Saturday) and followed it up with a slightly better Rs 3.75 crore on Day 16 (third Sunday), according to early estimates. That pushes the total India collection to a solid Rs 90.45 crore across all languages. The final chapter in the Mission: Impossible saga kicked off with a decent run when it hit theatres on May 17. Fans rushed to catch Tom Cruise back in action as Ethan Hunt, pulling off gravity-defying stunts and intense fight scenes like only he can. The film had a strong start, bringing in Rs 54.4 crore in its first week. All eyes are on whether The Final Reckoning can keep up the pace and cruise its way to the Rs 100 crore mark in India. Ahead of the release, Tom Cruise had left Indian fans delighted by speaking in Hindi during a promotional video. 'Main aap sab se bahut pyaar karta hoon. Mujpe bharosa karo, ek akhri baar (I love you all a lot. Trust me one last time)," he said. He also shared his fond memories of visiting India, adding, 'I feel so much love for India. I have to say the whole experience has been etched in my memory. Every single moment. From the moment I landed, going to the Taj Mahal, and spending time in Mumbai, I remember each moment quite vividly." A part of News18's review of the film read, 'But what truly sets The Final Reckoning apart is its tone. It's not just an action blockbuster. It's an elegy. A goodbye. A thank-you. And somehow, despite all the chaos, it's also a reckoning with legacy, with sacrifice, with what it really means to be a hero when the world keeps moving the goalpost. The Final Reckoning is the most fitting, heart-racing, gut-wrenching finale Ethan Hunt could've asked for. If this really is the last mission, then hats off, Mr. Cruise. You didn't just complete it. You aced it." First Published:

UCL finals 2025: Tom Cruise lauds David Beckham; netizens ‘never expected' Mission Impossible star to be a ‘soccer fan'

Tom Cruise made an unexpected appearance during CBS Sports' pre-match coverage of the 2025 UEFA Champions League final, joining host Kate Abdo and analyst David Beckham. During the segment, Cruise praised Beckham, crediting him with transforming the landscape of football in the United States through his groundbreaking move to LA Galaxy in 2007. He also shared how inspiring he finds Beckham's journey, not only for his success on the pitch but also for his achievements off the field with Inter Miami. Cruise said their friendship was formed when the actor was filming in England. 'I've always watched him play. Manchester United, when he [Beckham] got there in 92 and I was a fan when he was there, and Beckham, that kick you made, the 30-yard one from the halfway line. And I was like 'this guy has got some skill' and it was amazing," Cruise stated on Beckham. One of the users said, 'Never expected Tom Cruise to show up in UCL event.' Another stated, 'Tom Cruise on the UCL set looks like Gretzky on the TNT Stanley cup playoffs set.' 'Tom Cruise is really a soccer fan, hun. PSG vs Inter Milan,' commented the third. An internet user posted a video, stating, '19-year-old Tom Cruise playing soccer/football⚽️' 'You changed the face of the sport in America and for the world, all for the better. You single-handedly changed it and enabled others, and the success of that league and where it is today, it started with you, it absolutely did. Your jersey was selling, all the players got more awareness, everybody did, and a rising tide raises all boats, and look where you are now," Cruise informed CBS Sports. Cruise added, 'Once David went and he made it OK, and you also won two Championships there, and everywhere you went, you won, everywhere! That was amazing, it was a great time for the sport and how it's evolved. And now you're taking it as an owner, with [Lionel] Messi playing for Miami, what you've done there with you guys, again taking it to that next level, and that is inspiring. What you've done on the field, you're doing in business.'
