Charleston County's waterparks to open weekends only May 17; daily operations start late May
CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Summer will soon make a splash in Charleston County when three of the area's waterparks open for the season.
Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission will open Splash Island, Splash Zone, and Whirlin' Waters for weekends only starting May 17.
The parks will open for daily operations later in the month. CCPRC said park hours will vary this year and provided a preliminary schedule of operation for each location:
Whirlin' Waters Adventure Waterpark (North Charleston Wannamaker County Park)
Open weekends only starting May 17; Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Open daily from May 30 – Aug. 10; weekends from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and weekdays from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. (Monday – Friday)
Open weekends only starting Aug. 11 and closing after Labor Day, Sept. 1
Splash Island Waterpark (Mount Pleasant Palmetto Islands County Park) and Splash Zone Waterpark (James Island County Park)
Open weekends only starting May 17; Saturdays from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Sundays from 1 – 6 p.m.
Open daily from May 30 – Aug. 3; Saturdays from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.; Sundays from 1 – 6 p.m.; weekdays 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Close for the season after Aug. 3
The West County Aquatic Center pool in Hollywood will also open for weekends beginning May 17, with daily operations starting May 30.

Open daily from May 30 – Aug. 10; Saturdays and weekdays from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.; and Sundays 1 – 6 p.m.
Open weekends only starting Aug. 11 and closing after Labor Day, Sept. 1
Each park and the pool will be open on Memorial Day and some holidays will have different hours. You'll want to check the schedule at CharlestonCountyParks.com for more information.
In addition to water slides, lazy rivers, wave pools, splash pads and family-fun, the waterparks also offer a full range of amenities including concessions, lockers, lounge chairs, showers and restrooms. 'Each waterpark is staffed with certified lifeguards,' said CCPRC.
