Kasatkina will hope to make BJK Cup bow in Tasmania
Australia will host a Billie Jean King Cup tie in Tasmania in November with Daria Kasatkina hoping she'll be cleared to be in contention to make her debut for her adopted country in the World Cup of women's tennis.
The draw for the play-offs was made in London on Thursday when it was revealed that Sam Stosur's Australia team will host a three-pronged play-off tie against Brazil and Portugal in Hobart between November 14 and 16.
When Kasatkina, the new Australian No.1 after gaining permanent residence in March, was asked about her ambitions of competing in the BJK Cup having previously competed for her native Russia, she talked of her enthusiasm about making a green-and-gold debut.

But talking at Roland Garros, she admitted it was still unclear when and if she would get clearance to play.
"Talking about the Billie Jean King Cup, that process is more complicated, which is not depending on me," she told reporters.
"It's something which Tennis Australia has to deal with the ITF (International Tennis Federation organisers). This is where it's already different language. I'm not going to be the part of it. This is where the Federation has to deal with the ITF."
If she does get clearance and is selected, the Australian team would be strong favourites to top their three-team round-robin group at Hobart's Domain Tennis Centre against two teams who don't have the same strength-in-depth to call on.
Even without Kasatkina, the world No.16, Stosur has rising teenager star Maya Joint (No.52), Ajla Tomljanovic (No.66) and Kim Birrell (No.79) to choose from in the top 100, while Olivia Gadecki is 104. Ellen Perez is the 16th-ranked doubles player in the world.
In contrast, Brazil have only one stand-out player in the shape of 21st-ranked Beatriz Haddad Maia, with their next two on the WTA computer being the No.219 Laura Pigossi and No.240 Carolina Alves.
The Portuguese team will be the rank outsiders with their hopes resting on two sisters, 21-year-old Matilde Jorge (No.251) and her 25-year-old sibling Francisca, who's at 259.
Stosur's team will be hoping to get back among the elite next year by winning their November tie after failing to reach this season's week-long final which will be held in Shenzhen, China, in September.

Australian cricket selectors have finally bit the bullet and axed Marnus Labuschagne for the first Test against the West Indies, recalling Sam Konstas and Josh Inglis to the XI. Steve Smith has also been ruled out due to a finger injury, meaning the Aussies will sport a new-look batting line-up. Selectors made the unusual move of announcing the XI a week out from the first Test in Barbados, starting next Thursday (Australian time). Labuschagne has finally paid the price for a poor run of form that's resulted in no Test centuries in the last two years. "We will continue working with him on the areas of his game we feel he needs to rediscover. We continue to value his skill and expect him to work through the challenge positively." Smith suffered a compound dislocation when he dropped a catch in Australia's loss to South Africa last week. He won't play in the first Test, but hasn't been ruled out of the entire three-match series as yet. "Steve needs more time for the wound to heal so we'll give him another week's rest and assess his functionality after that," Bailey said. "We have made the decision to give Josh and Sam the opportunity to replace Steve and Marnus. "We are excited to see them get the chance to further their fledgling Test careers. In his only opportunity in Test cricket to date, Josh was outstanding in Sri Lanka, showing great intent and ability to put pressure on the opposition." Konstas burst onto the international scene with some stunning hitting against Jasprit Bumrah on Boxing Day. He was dropped for the subsequent tour of Sri Lanka, with Travis Head preferred at the top of the order. Inglis scored a stunning century on Test debut against Sri Lanka, and gets another chance to show he belongs. The decision to axe Labuschagne is long-overdue, and cricket fans took to social media on Friday to commend selectors for finally making the difficult call. Fans are also celebrating the return of Konstas - one of the most exiting young batters in world cricket. If you're not scoring runs, you're going to be under the spotlight. But all of a sudden David Warner leaves. And then Usman Khawaja leaves. And then Steve Smith. "If Marnus isn't playing well, you've got a huge gap there because Travis Head bats down the order. So he's actually a very, very important link in this chain here. If I was the Australian team, I'd be focusing – and I'm sure they are – all their attention on getting Marnus to come good in however that is." Door wide open for Reece Walsh as Slater urged to axe Queensland superstar
Former NRL player Denan Kemp has questioned whether Kalyn Ponga has lost some of his aura, speculating that Billy Slater might be better off axing the star fullback for State of Origin 3. Ponga hasn't been much of a factor in either of the Origin games so far this series, and hasn't been in great form with Newcastle either. In Game 1 he had 21 runs for 163 metres, but in Game 2 on Wednesday night it was just eight runs for 77 metres. Queensland won 26-24 to send the series to a decider, but Ponga had four missed tackles and two errors - both on high balls that he failed to secure. The $1.4 million fullback missed a key tackle on Brian To'o for one of the NSW winger's three tries, and was caught out of position when Angus Crichton streamed through to ground a grubber from Jarome Luai. He also had a poor miss on Nathan Cleary, but got lucky the try was disallowed for an obstruction. Queensland's win has largely taken the heat off Ponga that might have arisen had the Maroons lost. But Kemp is among a number of leading voices questioning his place in Slater's side. Speaking on the popular 'Bloke in a Bar' podcast on Thursday, the former Broncos and Warriors player suggested Slater might be tempted to pick someone else for Game 3. "He dropped three bombs. He got bounced off by Cleary and got lucky there was an obstruction," Kemp said. "I think Billy has to have a real hard look at that fullback position. I think KP (Ponga) is just out of form. "It's tough but if you've got that many errors, it's just a real question we (Queensland) have to ask ourselves. We need someone who's bringing energy around the ruck, making their catches and tackles. It's definitely a question that I think Billy should be considering because we can't afford to go into Game 3 and have that many dropped balls. We'll lose by 30-plus." Co-host Tim Williams, the brother of former Canberra player Sam, added: "KP is normally elite under the high ball. When he's dropping bombs like that...I know the conditions were bad but there were some pretty soft ones. It's normally the case where every time Ponga gets the ball in Origin my heart sinks thinking 'how is he going to kill us (NSW) this time. The last two games, I've forgotten he's playing at times." Reece Walsh would be the obvious choice to replace Ponga if Slater decides to make a change, but Kemp said he's not sure the Broncos fullback has enough games under his belt. Walsh's season was disrupted by a knee injury that sidelined him for six weeks, but he returned with two tries in the Broncos' thrashing of the Titans a fortnight ago. The 22-year-old has played five Origin games to date, and has clashes with the Sharks and Warriors to state his case for selection in Game 3. "When you are a Queenslander, that's all you want to do," Walsh said after the Titans game about a possible call-up. "If Billy needs me in the squad for anything, I'll be there and ready to go. If he doesn't, I'll still be cheering the boys and backing them at home." Murray Taulagi is back to full fitness and would be an option for the wing if Slater puts Tabuai-Fidow in the No.1 jersey in the decider.
