Top Hong Kong schools that offer bilingual education
From the cognitive to the cultural, the varied benefits of raising multilingual children are well known. For parents who wish to go beyond home immersion and see this incorporated into a child's school curriculum, the International Schools Guide lists many of the institutions in Hong Kong that have made multilingualism a key part of their proposition.
While in practice all international schools across the city teach other languages in addition to English, the schools listed below make multilingual immersion a significant part of their academic offering, setting them apart as stand-out choices for parents who are keen on having their child grow up with a fluent command of a second or even third language. Targeted bilingual education
International College Hong Kong – Hong Lok Yuen (ICHK HLY), located in Tai Po, achieved Smart School Status from the Centre for Educators of Bilingual and Multilingual Learners (BML) and has been deemed a BML Smart School for the past two years. The UK-based organisation imparts best practices for teaching bilingual and multilingual children to both educators and parents through their courses and the BML Parent Coaching Program.
At ICHK HLY, all existing teachers and teaching assistants are required to complete the programme, while new staff members must complete their training within the first year of joining the school. Some schools start the bilingual immersion model from nursery. Photo: May Tse
'The demographic of international school students is now largely one where most children are from bilingual or multilingual backgrounds. It is therefore important to us that all of our staff receive specific and focused training to maximise the learning of all of our children,' explains Derek Pinchbeck, head of school at ICHK HLY.

Number of migrants reaching UK in small boats in a single day hits a 2025 high
UK government figures on Sunday showed that more than 1,100 migrants arrived in the country on Saturday in small boats from France across the English Channel, the highest number recorded on a single day so far this year. The latest Home Office figures show that 1,194 migrants arrived in 18 boats on Saturday, bringing the provisional annual total so far to 14,811. That is 42 per cent higher than the same point last year, an increase that has piled pressure on the Labour government, which returned to power nearly a year ago partly on disillusionment with the previous Conservative administration's efforts to get a grip on the numbers making the crossing. Having ditched the Conservative government's plan to send migrants who arrived in the UK by unauthorised means to Rwanda , Prime Minister Keir Starmer said his government would get control by smashing the gangs and the business models that sustain their smuggling operations. Since gaining power, Starmer's government has sought better intelligence-sharing internationally, enhanced enforcement operations in northern France and has adopted tougher rules in its immigration legislation. French police officers were seen watching on Saturday as migrants boarded at a beach in Gravelines, between Calais and Dunkirk, and authorities were then pictured escorting the boats. French authorities said they rescued 184 people.

Hong Kong display strikes gold at Chelsea Flower Show with rare orchids
The Chelsea Flower Show, held in London every summer for more than a century, is a British institution drawing around 150,000 gardening enthusiasts to enjoy spectacular floral displays. Advertisement This year, there was an exhibit with a difference, featuring rare orchids from Hong Kong and other parts of Asia and the Pacific. The vibrant display, with orchids from Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden in the New Territories, won a coveted gold medal and was visited by Queen Camilla. It also sent a powerful message about the need to protect the ecologically significant but endangered plants. 'We have got 150,000 bees in to look at the orchids,' said John Parke Wright IV, chairman of Orchid Conservation Chelsea, referring to the show's visitors. 'They are being pollinated with ideas about conservation and why it is important.' The Hong Kong section at the Chelsea Flower Show.
