Frank Lampard says Coventry's players need to be "up to the challenge" as they seek to secure a Championship play-off place.Despite a 3-1 defeat at basement boys Plymouth on Monday, the Sky Blues remain sixth, a point behind Bristol City and three ahead of Middlesbrough and Millwall, with each club having two games to play.When Lampard took over, Coventry were 17th, two points above the relegation zone and 10 adrift of the play-off places.He told BBC CWR: "We've amassed a huge amount of points from where we were. "We're sixth, if you'd asked me when we came in if we'd take that with two games to go, absolutely we would. "I'm not going to sit here and have a go at the lads. We've got this close, now we have to go and deal with what's in front of us in the last two games."While the Sky Blues went down at Home Park, Bristol City lost 3-1 at Luton while Middlesbrough went down 2-1 at Sheffield Wednesday."It's a big bonus," Lampard admitted of the other results. "This is the Championship, anything can happen, it's the cutting-edge time of the season. "This time of year is very hard, which is why I won't hang too much on the result."Coventry head to Kenilworth Road themselves on Saturday (12:30 BST) with the Hatters in the relegation zone on goal difference."The shape will be similar (to Plymouth), the atmosphere is going to be hot, Luton are still right in it. Manchester United's Profit and Sustainability concerns are set to be eased with one of their former academy players expected to be on the move this summer, just a year ater leaving the Red Devils Manchester United are set to earn a substantial transfer windfall thanks to former star Maxi Oyedele. The United academy graduate left the Red Devils a year ago for Legia Warsaw, having never played a senior game at Old Trafford. But he has starred in Poland, making 24 appearances in all competitions as Legia won the Polish Cup. That was their first major trophy since 2023, with Oyedele playing all 90 minutes of the final. Though he only joined last summer and has two years to run on his contract, the midfielder is attracting strong interest. Werder Bremen, PSV Eindhoven, Anderlecht, Club Brugge and a number of Championship sides are understood to be monitoring the 20-year-old. There is a release clause in his contract that means he is available for a tick over £5million this summer. There is a growing expectation at Legia that he will be departing the club after just one season. If he does indeed move on, it would bank United a healthy sum, which will go a way towards easing their concerns with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability rules. The Red Devils are hoping to be busy this summer and any fee received will be greatly appreciated. In a surprise move given he left just 12 months ago, United will benefit substantially from Oyedele's potential transfer. When they sold him last summer, United inserted various clauses into the deal. While they only sold him for a small fee, one of the clauses they inserted was a substantial sell-on clause to ensure future profit. That sell-on clause means that United are entitled to 40 per cent of any fee Legia receive for the midfielder. If he is sold for his release clause, it would see United bank just over £2m. That money would likely go straight into easing their PSR concerns, with a buy-back option also included in the original deal. A departure for Oyedele would come as somewhat of a surprise given his short time in Poland. Speaking in April, the youngster insisted he was happy with life in the capital city. 'It's just funny for my mum because she left Poland to come to England and make a life; I left England to go to Poland to start my journey,' Oyedele told The Guardian. 'Legia was the biggest opportunity. "I don't even think I realised how big of an opportunity it was when I heard about it. I felt like this was the opportunity to play in Europe, the biggest team in Poland. It's my nationality, so it's close to the national team. "It's always a risk to leave it, but it just seemed like the best choice. I couldn't afford to waste another year playing academy football. I could have stayed in England and continued my journey and who knows what would have happened." Wrexham line up move for Tottenham star as Phil Parkinson looks to strengthen his squad for the Championship
Wrexham want Ben Davies despite Tottenham exercising their option to extend the defender's contract by 12 months at the weekend. Davies has been a Spurs player since 2014 and he featured in 28 games under Ange Postecoglou last season, despite not being a member of the manager's first-choice XI. Davies has played 358 games for Tottenham in total, operating both as a left back and a central defender. He is a popular member of the dressing room and especially close to captain Son Heung-min. Davies recently saw his contract extended until June 2026, which means Wrexham would likely need to pay Spurs a modest transfer fee to land him this summer. Tottenham's willingness to let Davies leave could depend on whether or not they are successful in their attempts to sign Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite. Spurs are expected to formalise their interest in 22-year-old Branthwaite next week. Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson looks set for a busy summer following his side's promotion from League One to the Championship. Davies has never played below the top tier of English football, having been a Premier League player for his entire club career to date. Pierce Charles looking for home comforts with NI and consistency at club level
Charles came on at the beginning of the second half in the 2-1 friendly loss in Copenhagen for the injured Conor Hazard and made a number of fine saves as the Danes piled on the pressure. There is every chance the 19-year-old could return to the starting line-up for the game versus Iceland, the last before the World Cup qualifiers kick-off in September, and, if so, he will aim to continue his unbeaten record at Windsor Park which reads three games, two wins, one draw and two clean sheets. 'That makes me so proud, especially to do it back in Northern Ireland,' Charles told the Belfast Telegraph. 'There's nothing better really, and hopefully we will continue our good form at home on Tuesday. 'I'm really looking forward to it and being back in front of the Windsor crowd for one last time this season. I can't wait. I just want Tuesday to come now.' Reflecting on the friendly at Parken, won by Christian Eriksen's second half tap-in, Charles said there had been no plans in place to share the goalkeeping duties between himself and Hazard but that's how it turned out, with the Plymouth number one forced off at the break due to injury. 'I think Conor was feeling his knee a bit so at half-time we decided to swap it to help Conor and to save him,' said Charles, who made his senior international debut last year. 'I hope Conor's alright, but with him coming off I had to step up. It was a bit of a strange feeling coming on at half-time. You always have to be ready to play and I think that showed and I did some alright stuff. 'It's my job at the end of the day to stop the ball going into the back of the net. I couldn't let my team down. They had been playing 45 minutes longer than me so I wanted to keep concentrated and stay switched on. 'I was a bit disappointed not to be starting when you see the stadium and hear the atmosphere, but everything worked out and I got my chance. It was a really good experience, not just for me but all the other players as well.' Unlike Charles in the second half, Hazard didn't have a save to make in the opening 45 such was Northern Ireland's strong defensive shape and discipline and Denmark's lack of quality. Then came a well taken goal in injury time from Gustav Isaksen to equalise Pierre-Emile Højbjerg's early own goal. Watching from the bench, Owls ace Charles said: 'I was thinking we were doing well and I was hoping we would get into half-time 1-0 up. Obviously to concede just on half-time was a bit gutting and gave them momentum in the second half. 'I think we could have kept the ball better in parts. It's tough because quite a lot of our players have been off for a while now with the season ending quite early. It is good that we didn't fall behind and for it to go to three or four like the last game (which ended in a 5-1 win for Sweden). We kept it to a close scoreline.' Following matches against Switzerland and the Swedes in March, Charles took on the mantle of first choice goalkeeper at Sheffield Wednesday and performed well enough to keep the jersey until the end of the campaign. 'Coming off the back of the March camp, to go back and start in the League was a big confidence boost,' he explained. 'Looking forward to next season hopefully I can keep the spot.' Charles has the world at his talented feet which can ping passes around like a midfield conductor. He is also developing as an all round goalkeeper which has led to Tottenham, Aston Villa, Everton and Fulham being linked to the youngster, who started his career at Manchester City. Asked about the transfer speculation, Charles, who turns 20 in July, stated: 'I don't really pay any heed to it. If it comes round, it comes round. I'm so happy at Sheffield Wednesday right now. There's nothing that could make me leave at this point. I'm playing and I'm really happy there.'
