Save the date: Here's when Sony will officially unveil the Xperia 1 VII
Despite being incapable of making much any progress in the global handset market over the last few years, Sony is still not ready to throw in the towel, instead gearing up to unveil yet another somewhat unconventional alternative to the best phones from brands like Samsung and Apple. Revealed pretty much in full in a number of recent reports, the Xperia 1 VII has an official launch date attached to its (annoyingly convoluted) name today. This is right around the corner, and it largely falls in line with everyone's expectations after last year's Xperia 1 VI flagship came out on May 15. If you're into boxy smartphones with trend-defying screen bezels, lots of physical buttons, and an "outdated" way to connect to your good old fashioned wired headphones, you may not want to make plans for next Tuesday. On May 13, at 11am Japan time, Sony will show off the "next ONE" on its Xperia-dedicated YouTube channel, most likely confirming all the rumors that have floated around the interwebs these past few weeks and hopefully hinting (at the very least) at US availability.
11am JST, mind you, means 4am CEST, so the Xperia 1 VII is probably not designed with the old continent in mind. But that also means 10pm ET and 7pm PT (on Monday, May 12), so at least in theory, Sony could be targeting a US audience here in addition to its hardcore domestic fans. The Xperia 1 VI, remember, was never officially released stateside, contrasting with 2023's Xperia 1 V and many other high-end Sony phones from the past. But the Xperia 1 VII could be different in a few key ways from its 2024 predecessor, bringing back the Xperia 1 V's cutting-edge 4K screen resolution while also embracing the same state-of-the-art Snapdragon 8 Elite processor as virtually all the best Android phones available today.
In many ways, unfortunately, the Xperia 1 VII is likely to look (a little too) familiar to Sony's long-time aficionados, which is going to make it mighty hard for the disappointing sales figures of the last few years to noticeably grow. Unless, of course, the company learns something from its past pricing mistakes, which sadly seems unlikely.

Honor Magic V5 battery capacity could increase 20%
Honor is expected to launch Magic V5 soon, and the device was already certified at CMIIT. The phone with model number MHB-AN10 has a minimal 5,950 mAh battery capacity, which, according to tipsters, translates to a typical 6,100 mAh battery capacity. If this is really the case, the Magic V5 will get an almost 20% bigger battery than its predecessor, which was already extremely thin and powerful. The rumor comes from a post about the vivo X Fold5, which is rumored to sport a 6,000 mAh dual-cell. The leakster, who is usually on point with such rumors, replied in comments that the Magic V5 will have a 100 mAh bigger battery than the vivo's. The increased battery is not a surprise, as many smartphone companies in China follow the trend of Si/Ca cells, which provide more power in less volume. Realme GT 7 and 7T go global, first Nothing Phone (3) teaser, Week 22 in review
The Galaxy A57, which is expected in Q1 of 2026, will likely use a new Exynos 1680 chipset. The Exynos 1680 allegedly has the model designation S5E8865 and the codename Terra. No other details are known about it yet, but it is probably safe to assume that it will use an Xclipse GPU just like its predecessor. We saw the first glimpse of the Nothing Phone (3). More specifically, a macro shot of a part of the phone. Not much we can get from it, but perfectly in line with Nothing's style. Motorola's Moto G family is soon going to get another member, the Moto G96. It will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 SoC and we saw images of it. The phone will boast 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. It will have a 6.67-inch pOLED curved screen with a 144 Hz refresh rate, and a 5,500 mAh battery. On the rear, there's a 50 MP main camera using Sony's Lytia LYT-700C sensor, and an 8 MP macro camera. For selfies, you'll get a 32 MP snapper on the front. The device will be offered in Cattleya Orchid, Dresden Blue, Greener Pastures, and Ashleigh Blue colorways. It's expected to cost around INR 22,990 when it lands in India, which right now translates into approximately $270. It's unclear what other markets it might launch in. It hasn't yet been seen on the market. The new premium model will be unveiled in July. It will expand the G family even further. The vanilla costs INR 8,999, which is about $105/€90. The Realme GT 7 and GT 7T made their global debut. The GT 7 uses the Dimensity 9400e chipset and features a 6.8-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, 50 MP main and 2x telephoto cameras and an 8 MP ultrawide shooter. Google will launch the Pixel 10 with a new camera feature that will allow users to add multiple people to the same shot. The Pixel 10 series could come in August. The latest flagship killers bring Dimensity chipsets and massive 7,000mAh batteries with 120W charging. It could be the Pixel 10 Pro or Pixel 10 Pro XL. Comes in four different variants. OnePlus announced a slew of AI features, which will debut alongside the OnePlus 13s. The phone has a dedicated Plus Key on the side, replacing the iconic Alert slider. The company claims it has 250% enhanced thermal conductivity and a 30% larger heat dissipation area that lowers CPU temperatures by an additional 5°C. The Red Magic 10S Pro has a massive 7,500mAh battery with 120W charging, a 6.85-inch 144Hz OLED, and is now on sale.
