Inside The Top Secret World Of Luxury Concierges

Ali Salmi and Goran Svilar, founders of S2 Lifestyle Management. Luxury isn't just about helipads and thread counts. True luxury is defined by relationships and expert knowledge. And these are the principles that guide London-based luxury concierge consultants Ali Salmi and Goran Svilar, the founders of S2 Lifestyle Management. How did you get the idea for S2 Lifestyle Management? And what is the story and message behind the name? Ali Salmi: The idea actually came very organically. We were in businesses where a luxury lifestyle played a major role. We were involved with a drinks brand, and we got to know almost every cool (and non-cool ) restaurant, bar, hotel in London. We also got to know the managers and people working behind the scenes. Goran Svilar: The story behind a name is fairly simple. Both Ali's and my surnames start with S. The interesting part is that once you mirror two S's and connect them, it creates a number eight, which has always been my lucky number. This is how we locked in on. the name S2. The world of concierge services is an already saturated market—what in your mind does S2 Lifestyle Management offer that wasn't already available? GS: We have been doing our job for almost 20 years and have never got bored of it, but we are always cautious of the changes that happen over time. We are also lucky that we are always able to attract clients with style and grace. AS: We work with a relatively small number of clients because we want to make sure we can provide them with 360 degrees service and be helpful in absolutely any situation— which is why our morning might start with a grocery delivery request leading through to a specialist doctor's appointment, all the way through to bespoke travel arrangements. Ultimately, we are not necessarily providing what is not available already, but we find the fastest ways to resolve any issue for our clients and obtaining what is not in their reach. How has technology and social media changed what you do? AS: Technology has, in a way, helped us to differentiate ourselves even more. Technology has provided app-based companies, like Velocity Black, opportunities to work fast but not necessarily to provide those clients with excellent customer service. We live in the era where time is so precious. I'm not saying that technology is not helpful, not at all, our team uses all available technological advancements to work better, faster and be more informed. Technology has provided us with an infinite well of information, but at the end of the day, it is us who will have to place our trust in the information we find online. Social media is great in many ways and an incredible source of information, but it's only ever partial and personal. Ali Salmi and Goran Svilar. What are some of the most challenging and ambitious projects you've taken on, or items you've sourced? AS: If we are looking at finding the unfindable, I'd probably say sourcing a Cartier Crash watch for a client. Tracking down the watch is a challenge by itself, but sourcing it with a specific year and number, that gets really tricky. GS: I think to date, my biggest anxiety is restaurants bookings. We are very blessed with a fantastic team, so I personally don't need to do this, but there are times when even they get stuck and Ali or I need to jump in. It is not restaurant booking itself, but, as is always the way, it is about who you catch on the other side of the phone line, and then who you know who can help you make things happen. We had to book a table at Central in Lima, Peru (named the best restaurant in Central America for three consecutive years) with just a couple of weeks notice. This is a restaurant that has a six-month waiting list (if not more), and it really is a truly spectacular experience. Everything from the setup, the venue, the tables, the place settings… and then the food … is simply exceptional. In these situations, the client doesn't really ask you whether you can or cannot, we just get told the date to make the booking. And these are the moments when our team asks us to jump in. Rest assured … the client did sit down for the dinner on the requested date and time … and the chef, Virgilio Martínez Véliz came to say hi and present the desert himself. AS: I know we might not be saving lives, but it gives us a great pleasure and a great relief when we succeed and the client is satisfied. That feeling, even all these years later, never gets old.

Navigating the Generative AI Landscape

Download the report As the dust settles from the initial excitement and frenzy about generative AI (gen AI), a clearer picture of the tangible benefits to organizations is developing. Companies regionally—in North America, Europe, Latin America, and Asia Pacific (APAC)—are taking stock of lessons learned from early investments in gen AI infrastructure and capabilities, and it is now commonly accepted that harnessing gen AI can enhance customer interactions, reduce costs, improve data-driven decision making, and drive productivity.
