Bishara Bahbah, Who Mediates Between U.S. Administration And Hamas, Tells Of Direct Contact, Meetings With Hamas Official Ghazi Hamad, Who Promised More October 7 Attacks

Bishara Bahbah, a Palestinian-American businessman who heads the Arab Americans for Peace association and who has served in the past several months as a liaison between the U.S. administration and the Hamas movement, stated in a recent interview with Al-Ghad TV that he has direct contact with Hamas leaders, particularly with Hamas political bureau member Ghazi Hamad. It should be noted that Ghazi Hamad stated in the past that Hamas was willing to stage more terror attacks like the one on October 7, 2023, and that the movement's goal was the elimination of Israel. On a different occasion he said that resistance was the only way to eliminate Israel and that Hamas rejected the two-state solution.

The following are excerpts from Bahabah's interview in which he described his ties with Ghazi Hamad, and past statements by Hamad that were translated and published by MEMRI.
Bahbah: I Have Direct Contact With Hamas Leaders; I Met Dr. Ghazi Hamad For Lunch
Asked about the recent reports regarding the arrival of a Hamas delegation in Cairo and whether he has direct contact with the Hamas movement, Bahbah said: "I met with Dr. Ghazi Hamad from Hamas. We had lunch together and discussed the issues on the [negotiation] table, especially the outstanding issues. Hamas is considerably aware of the necessity to find a swift solution to the situation in Gaza." He added: "Indeed, there are direct contacts with Hamas leaders."
"In response to a question about whether, in his capacity as an unofficial mediator, he conveyed his conclusions from the meetings with Hamad and the Hamas leadership to the U.S. administration or to those responsible, Bahbah said: "Of course, I convey my messages on a daily basis, especially if there is any development..." He added; "I did not expect to become a mediator, but Dr. Hamad contacted me after requesting my phone number from Mrs. Suha Arafat [the widow of PLO leader Yasser Arafat]. That's how the connection began. He approached me, and after that I communicated with [U.S. Middle East envoy] Steve Witkoff and we reached an agreement for the release of American-Israeli soldier Edan Alexander…"
Bahbah also addressed the problematicity of contact between the U.S. administration and Hamas, which is designated as a terrorist organization in the U.S., and the major controversy that erupted a few months ago when the U.S. special envoy for hostage affairs, Adam Boehler, made unprecedented contact with Hamas leaders. Asked whether he believes this track can continue, Bahbah said: "This U.S. administration is realistic in its way of thinking. Witkoff is a government official. I am not a government official. I am not reimbursed for my expenses or my travel costs by anyone. I pay all my expenses myself. In that regard, I am an American citizen of Palestinian origin, and what applies to Boehler does not apply to me. Legally speaking, Hamas is indeed designated as a terror organization, but that does not mean that, in the future, it cannot have a political role [or be part of] the Palestinian political fabric…"[1]
Hamas Official Ghazi Hamad In October 2023: We Will Repeat The October 7 Attack, Time And Again, Until Israel Is Annihilated; Everything We Do Is Justified
As stated, Hamas political bureau member Ghazi Hamad, with whom Bahbah met, said on October 24, 2023, only two weeks after Hamas' October 7 attack, in which some 1,200 Israelis were murdered and about 250 were taken hostage, that Hamas was prepared to repeat this attack again and again until Israel was annihilated.

In an interview on November 20, 2024, he said that resistance was the only way to eliminate Israel and that Hamas never accepted the two-state solution.

Israeli operations escalate in Gaza and Occupied West Bank

Shafaq News – Gaza/Nablus Israeli forces intensified artillery shelling and demolitions across the Gaza Strip on Friday, targeting areas in Khan Younis and eastern Gaza City, while also expanding raids and settler activity in the Occupied West Bank (OWB), according to Palestinian media reports. The Palestinian Information Center reported that Israeli forces carried out large-scale demolitions of residential buildings in eastern Gaza and detonated three explosive-laden robots near Masoud Street in the Jabalia area, north of the Strip. Separately, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz quoted soldiers as saying that troops had intentionally fired on Palestinians near aid distribution points in Gaza. Health officials at al-Shifa Medical Complex warned the hospital could shut down due to dwindling fuel supplies, exacerbating an already severe humanitarian situation. شاهد |الرضيع أحمد طليب "عمره شهران" استــشهد في غزة؛ جرّاء سوء التغذية الناجم عن المجاعة والحصار 'الإسرائيلي" — المركز الفلسطيني للإعلام (@PalinfoAr) June 27, 2025 According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS), 55,999 people have been killed in Gaza since October 2023, including 18,000 children and 12,400 women. The data also reports the deaths of more than 1,400 medical staff, 219 journalists, 203 UNRWA employees, and 112 civil defense workers. Over 11,000 individuals remain missing. In the Occupied West Bank, tensions escalated in several areas. In Nablus, clashes broke out after dozens of Israeli settlers, escorted by military personnel, entered the eastern part of the city to perform religious rituals at Joseph's Tomb (Yousuf a.s) — a site considered sacred by Jews and located in an area under Palestinian Authority control. Local sources said settlers damaged both public and private property along Jerusalem Street. They later gathered at the tomb under military protection and performed Talmudic rituals, prompting confrontations with residents. قوات الاحتلال تقتحم المنطقة الشرقية في مدينة نابلس — شبكة قدس الإخبارية (@qudsn) June 27, 2025 In East Jerusalem, Israeli groups entered the Western Wall plaza to mark the start of the Hebrew month of Tammuz. Egyptian-American Analyst Magdi Khalil: Israel's War with Iran Was Justified; I Am Honored to Be on MEMRI's Board of Advisors - MEMRI Does Great Work, Its Translations Reflect Mainstream Trends in the

Egyptian-American political analyst Magdi Khalil, on a June 21, 2025 episode of From Washington with Hafez Al Mirazi on YouTube, said that he believes Israel's war against Iran is a 'just war.' He said he considers it a great honor to be a member of MEMRI – Middle East Media Research Institute's board of advisors and added that he believes MEMRI is doing 'great work' with its translations. When the interviewer pushed back and noted that MEMRI was founded by Yigal Carmon, whom he claimed is a former Mossad official, Khalil responded that it is a respected American institution based in Washington, D.C. He reiterated: 'It is an honor to be part of MEMRI.' Khalil rejected claims that MEMRI is selective in its translations, using the worst that is said in Arabic media, taking statements out of context, and highlighting statements from minor, non-influential speakers, saying that MEMRI reflects mainstream views, which are reflected by the increasing extremist rhetoric of religious figures, though this trend is now declining in places like Saudi Arabia. He added that ultimately, it is MEMRI's mission to identify mainstream trends. Khalil emphasized that he is not an employee of MEMRI but a board member alongside distinguished American public figures and acknowledged MEMRI vice president Alberto Fernandez, who played a lead role in Alhurra TV.

Deflection tactic: White House dismisses Khamenei's remarks

Shafaq News – Washington/Tehran On Thursday, the White House rejected Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei's response to recent US airstrikes, framing his comments as a deflection tactic under growing internal and external pressure. 'When you have a totalitarian regime, you need to save face,' White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters, responding to Khamenei's televised speech earlier in the day. In his first public appearance since the strikes, Khamenei downplayed the damage, claiming the United States 'achieved nothing.' He framed Iran's response as 'a slap in America's face' and accused Washington of inflating its actions for political gain, citing President Donald Trump. Khamenei referenced Iran's missile strike on Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar—a major US military installation in the Gulf—as proof of Tehran's retaliation capabilities, alleging substantial damage. He warned that any future attack on Iranian territory would prompt direct strikes on American forces. The Trump administration pushed back on the narrative, calling Iran's portrayal misleading and asserting that the US strikes were targeted, limited in scope, and designed to degrade Iran's military infrastructure while avoiding broader conflict. The strikes, conducted earlier this week, targeted Iranian nuclear facilities and formed part of Washington's response to what it described as Tehran's accelerated nuclear development.
