NASCAR Power Rankings: Denny Hamlin says hola to 3rd child, adios to Mexico, gets rewarded
The longtime theory (around here, anyway) said NASCAR babies are always born on a Tuesday. The modern miracles of obstetrics, glove-in-glove with the racing schedule, always managed to make that happen. Tuesday was the safest day for such things in order to avoid conflicting with last weekend's or the coming weekend's race. Can't have it on Monday, because that becomes race day in the case of a Sunday rainout. Advertisement Well, it turns out, Denny Hamlin and longtime girlfriend/partner/fiancé (and I mean LONG time, as in 17 years) Jordan Fish only missed it by one day. Their third child, a boy, was born last Wednesday. Could Denny have hopped on the jet Friday and done his duties in Mexico City? Denny Hamlin, just several weeks back at Martinsville, with Jordan and their daughters, Molly and Taylor. Yep. But did it make more sense to stay home and help with all that goes into prepping for a fifth family member? In this case, absolutely. Listen, if they'd been racing in, say, Darlington or Richmond or certainly Charlotte, I'm guessing Denny would've baked a couple of casseroles, loaded the fridge with juice and milk, and gone to work. Advertisement But even though this was just one time zone to the west and a few blocks to the south, Mexico City is still international travel, and international travel can bring unforeseen obstacles. Great opportunistic call by Denny. His reward? The best imaginable. He gets to remain in the top spot on our weekly NASCAR Power Rankings. Ask any father of a newborn, Denny will be absolutely ITCHING to get to Pocono this weekend. So don't be surprised if he stays up top for at least another week. 1. Denny Hamlin Misses a race, stays at No. 1? Call it the "new dad" mulligan. Can only burn it once during the year. 2. Christopher Bell He's a closer runner-up here than he was in Mexico City this past Sunday. 3. Kyle Larson Went halfway to South America to run half a race. 4. William Byron Sounds odd, but he hasn't won in over four months. Needed to be pointed out. 5. Ross Chastain He'll get back on that top-10 train at Pocono this week. 6. Chase Elliott Did you see him on that third-place podium? Whew, looked like a teenager at family-picture time. 7. Ryan Blaney Raise your hand if you're the most recent Cup winner at Pocono ... 8. Joey Logano Also won at Pocono — 13 years ago! 9. Chris Buescher For what it's worth, his hometown (Prosper, Texas) produced TWO Olympic male figure skaters: Todd Eldredge and Ronald Kauffman. 10. Chase Briscoe While Shane van Gisbergen lost his lunch in Mexico, Chase lost his streak of three straight poles. West Ham's Michail Antonio makes first appearance in six months following car crash
West Ham forward Michail Antonio has made his first appearance since being involved in a car crash, coming on as a late substitute for Jamaica on Monday. The 35-year-old came off the bench in the 85th minute but could not help his country rescue a 1-0 defeat to Guatemala in their opening game of the Gold Cup group stage in California. Advertisement Antonio's last competitive appearance was more than six months ago in West Ham's defeat to Leicester City on December 3. Four days later, he was involved in a single-vehicle collision, when the car he was driving struck a tree in Epping Forest. He underwent surgery on a lower limb injury and spent four and a half weeks recovering at a central London hospital, returning to fitness ahead of schedule having initially been told his rehabilitation would take 12 months. Antonio's future at the London Stadium remains uncertain, with his contract set to expire on June 30. The player's camp have held talks with the club's majority shareholder David Sullivan and head of recruitment Kyle Macaulay, but no agreement over a new contract has been reached. The club say his 'unique situation' means no formal decision will be made until the time is 'right and appropriate'. Antonio joined from Nottingham Forest in 2015 and is their all-time leading Premier League scorer with 68 goals in 268 games. Jamaica face Guadeloupe on Friday and Panama next week as they bid to make it out of Group C in the Gold Cup.

Real Madrid legend gives take on Xabi Alonso appointment
The Club World Cup in the United States is heating up as top teams begin to take centre stage. While top clubs like Manchester City and Real Madrid are still waiting for their turn, one side that has already caught attention is Mexican outfit Monterrey. The team is generating buzz not for their performances but because of one big name in their squad, who is former Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos. Advertisement Ahead of Monterrey's much-anticipated match against Inter Milan, Ramos spoke to the media and shared his thoughts on a range of topics. One name that naturally came up was Xabi Alonso, the former midfield general who is now leading Real Madrid as their new manager. Alonso is the right fit Ramos had nothing but praise for Alonso, highlighting his experience both on and off the pitch. 'Xabi Alonso is an interesting addition to Real Madrid. As a player, he won everything and knows how to manage a club,' Ramos said. Ramos feels Xabi Alonso is the right man for Real Madrid. (Photo by) Advertisement His words carry weight, considering the history they shared and the level of trust Ramos has in Alonso's leadership abilities. He also touched on the club's status in world football. 'Real Madrid is always the favourite in every competition. Because of their level, their players, their mentality,' he added. It is a statement many would agree with, as the Spanish giants often rise to the occasion when it matters most. When asked about the possibility of facing Real Madrid in the tournament, Ramos offered a light-hearted response. 'If we don't meet, all the better. We'll save ourselves the disappointment,' he laughed. Advertisement 'It would be an undeniable pleasure. I'd rather see them meet someone else. I prefer Atletico de Madrid, but we're going to focus on getting through the group stage first,' he added. Source: Mundo Deportivo
