Purnima Dutta recalls shooting for Satyajit Ray's Aranyer Din Ratri
Revisiting the experience of shooting the film-
Aranyer Din Ratri
,
Purnima Dutta
, producer shared some anecdotes.
Simi became like a family member during those days. Though she was staying in a hotel, most of the time, she used to be at our house. I still remember, when I got busy, she used to lay the dining table and make sure we all ate together – she's an extremely homely person. I remember Samit (Bhanja, who played Hari) was a newcomer in the industry, and was apprehensive of the intimate scenes he had to play. Manik da (
Satyajit Ray
) told him to get rid of his inhibitions, and Simi being a seasoned actor, helped Samit overcome his awkwardness with portraying the scenes convincingly.
Babu (Sandip Ray) was in school at that time and he used to be on the sets when we were shooting in Kolkata. I still remember we celebrated Manik da's birthday in the forests of
Chhipadohar
and how some guests handed him a bottle of premium scotch. And after the shoot Manik da handed over that bottle ceremoniously to the male casts of the film and my husband as he never drank. But we will remember his birthday.

Thug Life X reviews: Mani Ratnam's gangster film divides the internet
Thug Life, the much-anticipated gangster action drama directed by Mani Ratnam, starring Kamal Haasan, Silambarasan TR (STR), and Trisha Krishnan, hit theatres on Thursday, June 5. As expected, the film sparked widespread discussion on social media, particularly on X, where early reactions have been mixed, with viewers praising certain aspects while voicing strong criticism of others, especially the second half. Thug Life Twitter reviews The movie has received mixed reactions from fans on X. Some users compared the film's first half to cinematic classics. One user wrote, '#ThugLife Well made and decent first half which reminded me of Kurosawa's Ran and Mani's own Nayakan. Nothing exceptional after the opening sequence, but nothing to complain about either.' Another viewer noted that the film had been unfairly judged by early reviews, stating, 'Definitely not as bad as people have been saying. A solid gangster drama in Mani Ratnam's signature style. Kamal and STR are excellent. I especially enjoyed the dialogue-driven moments more than the action sequences. Weak points? Some of Trisha's scenes and the interval block.' A third user wrote, 'A neat gangster drama in true Mani Ratnam fashion. #KamalHaasan is brilliant, but #SilambarasanTR steals the show! The de-aging for Kamal worked well, and his dynamic with the young STR was touching. Pacing was slow at times, but overall some strong sequences.' 'Haters, trolls, and toxicity—@ikamalhaasan has endured it all. Believe me, #ThugLife is fantastic. An absolute masterclass. Stop waiting to appreciate it after a decade—do it now!,' an X user wrote. Another one said, 'KH's performance was captivating and STR delivered big time. The young actor in the flashbacks was impressive too. ARR's music elevates the film, although some parts felt a bit out of sync. Unfortunately, the second half suffers from inconsistent writing.' Khushbu Sundar thanks Mani Ratnam for not missing out her daughter's name in Thug Life's credits
Actress and producer Khushbu Sundar has now penned a post on Instagram thanking director Mani Ratnam for including her daughter's name in the credits list of 'Thug Life', which hit screens on Thursday. .The actress, who shared about how proud and delighted she was to watch her daughter Ananditha Sundar's name being listed in the credits of director Mani Ratnam's 'Thug Life', pointed out that her daughter Anandita Sundar had worked as an assitant director for a brief period in the project before suffering an ankle fracture. Taking to her Instagram account to pen a post on how proud she felt as a mother, Khushbu Sundar, who herself is a producer, wrote, "As a parent, it fills me with immese pride to see my daughter's name in a Mani Ratnam film as his disciple. She assisted for a short time as she couldnt continue due her ankle fracture. But the knowledge she has gathered and what she has learned from Mani Sir is sure to last a life time. The experience was indeed enriching. Thank you Sir for your large heart and not missing her name out in the credits. " SHOCKING! Actor-politician Khushbu Sundar reveals she was sexually abused by her father: 'I was just 8-year-old and...' However, her daughter Anandita playfully responded to her mother's post, saying "Telling the world how clumsy I am." On Wednesday, Khushbu had penned a cryptic post under the title 'Life Lessons'. The post seemed to be advice for someone in particular. However, it was not clear for whom the post was penned. Khushbu's post read, "They say karma is a bitch, and it's relentless-it strikes back with thunderous force. When you're selfish, when you wound and scar others, you wander from the path of true meaning and love. Life isn't about inflicting pain; it's about lifting others, not dragging them down. "Embrace darkness and egoism, and karma ensures you're hit hardest at the worst time. At the gates of hell, you confront the echoes of your cruelty, the goodness of those you've harmed amplifying your isolation. In that moment, karma offers no reprieve-you're destined to burn in the chaos you created, feeling every fiery consequence of your choices. Reflect before it's too late - don't let karma become your reckoning. " Check out our list of the latest Hindi , English , Tamil , Telugu , Malayalam , and Kannada movies .
