TeamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi, the attraction led by Japan's renowned technology-driven art collective, will open in Saadiyat Cultural District on April 18. It will blend art, science and technology through exhibitions, engaging the sight, sound and touch of its visitors across 17,000 square metres, the company says. It will feature original and ever-changing art with installations 'designed to flow' with the amoebic architecture, teamLab adds, ensuring that no two visits will be the same. Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi, says he hopes teamLab's permanent home will "inspire new generations of innovators, thinkers and creators from Abu Dhabi and beyond". 'Once opened, teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi will offer an immersive journey that sparks infinite curiosity and imagination in all who visit," he adds. "At the intersection of art, technology and nature, it will create a world of limitless wonder and creativity." TeamLab's founder Toshiyuki Inoko says: 'The artworks in teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi do not exist independently, but are created by the environment which produces the various phenomena that cause the artworks to exist." Saadiyat Cultural District's latest landmark will join several others due to be completed this year, including Zayed National Museum, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi and the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi. Saadiyat Cultural District is already home to Louvre Abu Dhabi, Manarat Al Saadiyat and the Abrahamic Family House, which are open to the public. Founded in Tokyo in 2001, teamLab has become famous for its embrace of digital technology and the importance that it places on the symbiotic relationship between art and the viewer. It has held many successful exhibitions around the world, including in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, with news of its permanent home in Saadiyat Island announced in 2022. The space's unique architecture was conceptualised by teamLab and realised by Abu Dhabi-based MZ Architects. Two exhibitions, Massless Suns and Dark Suns and Levitation Void, will be on show when it opens. Tickets will cost Dh50 for ages four to 12; Dh115 for ages 13 to 17; and Dh150 for adults (ages 18 and above). They are available to book online

These are the very best things to do indoors for summer in Abu Dhabi
Let's face it – when the pavements are almost melting, any plans involving the great outdoors are officially cancelled. But don't panic. Just because the weather's taking a scorcher turn doesn't mean your social calendar has to dry up – there are numerous things to do indoors in Abu Dhabi. Abu Dhabi is serving up an air-conditioned playground of epic proportions, packed with pulse-raising adventures, world-class dining, cultural heavy-hitters and cool-as-a-cucumber dessert drops. Whether you want to fly (indoors, obviously), feast, flex your artistic muscles, or just find a fun way to tire out the kids, this city's got a long list of ways to beat the heat without breaking a sweat. From five-star food to art-filled escapes, trampoline thrills to teamLab chills, here's your ultimate guide to staying cool and having a blast indoors this summer. The best indoor activities in Abu Dhabi to keep you cool over summer Dine at one of the city's best restaurants Okay, first up, the easy one. If we're talking indoor things to do, then we'd be remiss not not mention the capital's outstanding food scene. But let's face it Abu Dhabi's restaurant culture is constantly evolving, and for the average eater-outer, it can be difficult to keep up. A new restaurant here, a fabulous menu there… where to start? That's where we come in. Enter the Time Out Abu Dhabi Restaurant Awards 2025 and our definitive guide to dining in the capital. Pick any, pick them all, just make sure you pick 'indoor' on the booking because it's about to get hot outside. Head to Clymb Abu Dhabi Who says you can't spike your adrenaline indoors? And there aren't many things better for that than conquering your fear of heights at the world's largest indoor skydiving flight chamber and the region's tallest climbing wall at CLYMB. Beginners can take a swing at three different walls during a 60-minute intro session, learning everything from bouldering basics to auto-belaying, with expert instructors at hand. At just Dhs120 per session, you can climb solo or if you're really getting into the groove, there are courses to help you perfect your skills. If you're feeling extra adventurous, you can combine indoor climbing with skydiving in the CLYMB Combo ticket (Dhs315) for a double dose of adrenaline. Combo tickets from Dhs315. Sun-Thur (11am to 9pm), Fri-Sat (noon to 11pm). Clymb, Yas Mall, Yas Island, (0600 511115). Get mesmerised at TeamLab One of the coolest things to land in Abu Dhabi to date, teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi is a super definite must for an indoor activity bucket list. Set within Saadiyat Cultural District Abu Dhabi, the new museum spans over 17,000sqm and takes visitors on a multi-sensory journey. Hawksbill Restaurant at Saadiyat Beach Golf Club has the sweetest solution. Whether you've just finished a round of golf or you're simply chasing dessert goals, their limited-time summer menu delivers chilled indulgence with a twist. Take your tastebuds on a ride with the matcha tiramisu – a refreshing spin on the creamy classic. Or opt for the showstopper: birds' nest kunafa, a crunchy kunafa nest filled with chocolate and pistachio ice cream shaped like bird eggs. It's part dessert, part work of art. If you're after something lighter (and Instagram-worthy), the poached pear with coconut yoghurt, granola and pomegranate is the way to go. The seasonal lineup is all about keeping it cool – and delicious. À la carte. Daily 7am-11pm. Hawksbill Restaurant, Saadiyat Beach Golf Club, Saadiyat Island. (056 660 8780). And now, it is launching a special summer package where you and up to three mates can smash 50 glass items, a washing machine, a printer, a TV and four CPUs to pieces for Dhs1,164.94. And starting September 17, you can view some Mamluk beauty. The new season kicks off in glorious style with a deep dive into the mighty Mamluk Sultanate – a dynasty that ruled swathes of the Islamic world for over 250 years. The family zone is perfect for little thrill-seekers, with various tamed-down versions of the park's fast rides. There are heaps of less terrifying rides suitable for mini thrill-seekers such as the car carousel, driving school and an awesome supercar museum – we can but dream as we gaze at the gorgeous motors. Bloom World Academy banks on Banksy's bouquets for baccalaureates
Muhammad Yusuf, Features Writer Bloom World Academy's (BWA) private art fair on May 30 saw the debut display of three original Banksy street art pieces — Running Coppers, Toxic Fuel, and Secured. It made BWA the first school in the UAE to host original Banksy street art works, including the world premiere of 'Secured', one of the artist's highly coveted pieces. The artworks, which were presented alongside student work at the school's exclusive art fair, are owned and curated by Wonderwall Fine Arts. Two of the pieces were unveiled globally at World Art Dubai earlier this year, while 'Secured' had never been exhibited in a gallery anywhere in the world. BWA is a Dubai-based authorised IB school. John Bell, Founding Principal of Bloom World Academy, said: 'At BWA, we encourage students to explore, question and create. This collaboration wasn't just about viewing thought-provoking art — it was about dialogue, reflection, critical thinking and giving our students and their families a front-row seat to culture that challenges and inspires.' Kimberly McMahon, CEO at Wonderwall Fine Arts said that 'we're proud to collaborate with Bloom World Academy on this special showcase — they're a school that genuinely values early exposure to meaningful art and ideas. Our goal wasn't just to display original Banksy street artworks, but to place them where they could spark imagination and conversation. Giving young people access to work that's bold, witty and thought-provoking felt like the right way to make art matter — and perhaps even plant the seed for the next great Banksy.' Featuring a range of student artwork and design projects from across grade levels, the one-day art fair emphasised the power of creativity in holistic education. It was an opportunity for students to exhibit their work alongside one-of-a-kind street pieces by a globally renowned artist. BWA is an International Baccalaureate World School for students aged 18 months to 18 years old. It embeds the arts into its educational ethos and has collaborated with institutions like Jameel Arts Centre. BWA is the first own-brand school of leading school provider in the UAE, Bloom Education. Secured by Banksy. Bloom Education owns brand schools and nurseries, and operates UAE Charter Schools and New Generation Schools. It is a pioneer in the Middle East education sector for nearly a decade and half and has introduced leading American, English and International Baccalaureate curriculum education brands in the UAE, with a total roster of over 20,000 students. Partnering international school brand Brighton College, Bloom Education has been selected by Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) to operate the Abu Dhabi Charter Schools programme. Bloom Education has also been chosen by Emirates Schools Establishment (ESE) to operate schools in the Northern Emirates, as part of the 'Ajyal' (new 'generation') school initiative. Kimberly McMahon responds to Gulf Today's questions regarding the art fair Why did you choose a school for the Banksy exhibition? Bloom World Academy is not just a school; it is an innovative incubator that strives to stimulate and educate young minds. If we could inspire just one child during our exhibition, who knows, we may bring about the next Banksy! What attracts you to Banksy? His subversive wit and willingness to look at the world afresh with playful authenticity, whilst never shying away from global issues. There is also beauty and complexity in something so simple. A lot of Banksy's work are simple designs and stencil based — yet they invoke such deep thought. Added to this, the nature of the street art and where the art is curated, offers another layer of beauty. Given some of the street art pieces are over 20 years old, the mediums in which these pieces were created deliver a visceral response. Bloom World Academy premises. What are the backstories of Running Coppers, Toxic Fuel and Secured? Banksy's works often mimic municipal signage in each of these three works. Is he simply poking fun at authority or is there a deeper message at play? Each of the pieces challenge traditional authoritative figures (police, parents, security guards) in a humourous way, insinuating their authority is nothing more than a mirage presented by flawed humans. What is the mandate of Wonderwall Fine Arts? Wonderwall is a response to a passion formed over two decades, and an intrinsic desire to honour the pieces within a stewardship. Wonderwall operates under three pillars - i) Preserve the irreplaceable — rescue, restore, immortalise. ii) Showcase the legacy — Through global exhibitions and galleries. iii) Curate history — Through our limited edition art offerings, ensuring the pieces and their meaning survive through avid collectors and admirers. What were your takeaways from World Art Dubai? It was both liberating and inspiring to see the reaction of the very few people who have ever had the opportunity to see a Banksy street artpiece in person! The excitement and anticipation visitors had when discovering the brand's offering, only further inspires us to deliver on our objectives. What is Dubai's place among the great world capitals of art? Although late to the party, it is clear that Dubai has a voracious appetite for contemporary art and has both the energy and enthusiasm to become a global leader! What do Dubai and Banksy have in common? Both Banksy's art and Dubai's culture are young and unencumbered with historical baggage ... neither are restrained by rules and both are motivated to look forward, not backward. Dubai and Banksy also challenge societal norms, looking to develop and be at the forefront of contemporary thinking.
