The Uttarakhand government has suspended three senior officials, including former MNA Varun Chaudhari, DM Karmendra Singh, and SDM Ajai Veer Singh, for their involvement in a land scam within the Haridwar Nagar Nigam.
HARIDWAR: The state govt, in a clear message that it practices the policy of zero tolerance towards corruption, has suspended three of its senior officials found involved in the Haridwar Nagar Nigam land scam.
These include Haridwar Nagar Nigam's former MNA Varun Chaudhari, DM Karmendra Singh, and SDM Ajai Veer Singh.
It may be recalled that CM
Pushkar Singh Dhami
, while ordering an intensive inquiry into the scam, said that "stringent action will be taken against officials or employees found guilty."
He directed Secretary Peya Jal Ran Vir Singh Chauhan to conduct a detailed and impartial inquiry into the matter and submit an early report. The report was submitted to the govt a couple of days ago.
The inquiry was ordered following a complaint of corruption received from Haridwar Mayor Kiran Jaissal against Chaudhari in the purchase of 35 bighas of land adjoining the dumping ground near Sarai village for Rs.53 crore.
The complaint stated that the actual price of the land was much less than the price paid at the circle rate.

"RCB Should Be Sued": India World Cup Winner Slams Bengaluru Stampede Mess, Namedrops Virat Kohli

Former Indian cricketer Madan Lal has strongly criticized the poor planning and crowd management during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) IPL victory celebrations at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, where a stampede claimed the lives of at least 11 fans and injured several others. After RCB's long-awaited first IPL title win on June 3 in Ahmedabad, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) had organised a felicitation ceremony in Bengaluru on Wednesday. Thousands of fans gathered outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium, hoping to catch a glimpse of their heroes. However, as the crowd swelled, the situation became unmanageable. Police resorted to a lathi-charge to control the crowd, leading to panic and chaos. Seven people were killed in the resulting stampede, while several others were rushed to Bowring Hospital and Vydehi Superspeciality Hospital for treatment. "People will not forget this —or Virat Kohli. While people were dying outside, there was a celebration inside. It's truly shocking and disheartening. The families of the dead should consider suing RCB and the state government for ₹100 crore for this tragic is also shirking responsibility," former Indian cricketer Madan Lal told IANS. Earlier in the day, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah addressed the media after the incident and announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the family of the dead. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar defended the arrangements, stating, 'We had arranged for 5,000 police personnel. We couldn't use force on such a young, vibrant crowd.' The authorities have confirmed that the bodies of two persons are at Bowring Hospital and that of four others at Vaidehi Hospital. Six people are being treated in the ICU of the Vaidehi Hospital and three are admitted to the ICU. The government of Karnataka had earlier cancelled the victory parade from Vidhana Soudha to Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium, citing security reasons.

HP to charge ₹10 consultation fee from patients in govt hospitals

Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh govt has decided to charge a consultation fee of Rs 10 from all patients at the time of registration in govt hospitals across the state. In a step to strengthen the Rogi Kalyan Samitis across the state, the govt, on the recommendations of the cabinet sub-committee, has authorised Rogi Kalyan Samitis to levy user charges on a need basis. This decision was made to improve the services undertaken by Rogi Kalyan Samitis, including sanitation, hygiene, and maintenance of infrastructure and equipment. The govt's decision to charge Rs 10 as a consultation fee from patients has come under criticism from the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party in the state. Former chief minister and the leader of the opposition, Jai Ram Thakur, said on Wednesday that there is nothing left on earth that the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led Congress govt has not taxed. "When the central govt is providing free testing and treatment, why is the Sukhu govt taking it away?" questioned Thakur. The journey of this fee-imposing govt, which started with toilet tax, has now reached taxing the toilets and washrooms of hospitalised patients, quipped the leader of the opposition. The Sukhu govt has ordered the collection of money from every sick person who reaches the hospital for treatment in an emergency or helpless condition, he stated, adding that the govt must revoke this order at the earliest.
