Jack Draper vs Joao Fonseca: Score and latest updates from French Open
Good afternoon and welcome to our live coverage of Jack Draper v Joao Fonseca in the third round of the French Open.
After seeing off Gael Monfils in Thursday night's thriller, Draper can expect an entirely different challenge against Brazilian teen sensation Fonseca at Roland Garros.
The 18-year-old had never played a main-draw Grand Slam match until this year, but having risen to number 65 in the rankings, he is a precocious talent who is starting to turn heads in the tennis world.
Draper - who has beaten Italy's Mattia Bellucci and French veteran Monfils to reach the third round in Paris - defeated Fonseca in their only previous meeting at Indian Wells in March as he went on to secure the biggest title of his career so far.
'It's incredible what he brings to the sport,' Draper said of Fonseca. '[At the Miami Open] I thought the crowd were there to watch me and when I rocked up to the court it was all 'Joao Fonseca', and I thought maybe they're not for me.
'I'll know what to expect and not have any surprises, but it will be a tough challenge for sure, especially in a Grand Slam on the clay. I think I'm going to be playing him a lot. I think we'll be seeing him at the back end of draws and right at the top of the game.
'Everyone can see his potential and the way he plays, some of the stuff he comes out with is very powerful, very dynamic, very explosive. I think that's why it draws a lot of people to watch him. The huge fan base he brings from Brazil is great for the sport.'
With Jacob Fearnley and Cameron Norrie due to meet in an all-British tussle later, today marks the first time three British men have played in the third round at Roland Garros since 1968.

Iga Swiatek battles back to extend winning French Open run to 25 matches
The four-time champion has not lost a match at Roland Garros since 2021, but she appeared to be heading for the exit when Elena Rybakina led 6-1 2-0. Rybakina, the former Wimbledon champion, had raced into a 5-0 lead after only 20 minutes. But in a match which eventually lasted two and a half hours, Swiatek came through 1-6 6-3 7-5. Never give up. Keep on fighting. That's what champions are made of.#RolandGarros — Roland-Garros (@rolandgarros) June 1, 2025 The Pole, who turned 24 on Saturday, now matches Monica Seles' 1990s run of 25 match wins at the tournament. She said: 'It was tough. In the first I felt like I was playing against Jannik Sinner!' Swiatek will face Elina Svitolina, who sprung a surprise by knocking out fourth seed and last year's runner-up Jasmine Paolini, in the quarter-final. The 30-year-old from Ukraine saved three match points before winning 6-4 6-7 (6) 6-1 in another dramatic match. 'I would've never believed this match would swing my way,' she said. 'It was a really difficult match, Jasmine was playing really, really well. It was really tough. I had to fight until the last point and I'm very happy to be in the next round. Elina Svitolina saves 3 match points and upsets last year's finalist Paolini 🤯#RolandGarros — Roland-Garros (@rolandgarros) June 1, 2025 'Of course it's one or two points which decided the second set. I was really pleased to win the second set and played really well to close the match. 'We are at a grand slam so everyone is playing very well and everyone is fighting. It's all about trying to stay focused and finding the opportunities.' Svitolina's husband, Gael Monfils, was knocked out by Jack Draper in a thrilling four-setter on Thursday night. 'It's important to recover because today was a very difficult match,' she added. 'An ice bath, some food, speak with my brother and Gael as well, enjoy the moment with them and then practice tomorrow to prepare for my next round.' Italian Paolini, who also reached the Wimbledon final last year, said: 'It's a tough one. I think we played a great match. I had my chances. 'She played well, I didn't. You know, it's tennis, so it's hard to accept, but I have to.' World number one Aryna Sabalenka beat American Amanda Anisimova 7-5 6-3 to book a last-eight meeting with Paris Olympic champion Qinwen Zheng, who battled past Liudmila Samsonova in three sets.

Musetti swings past Rune into French Open quarter-finals
PARIS, June 1 (Reuters) - Lorenzo Musetti's impressive claycourt season rolled on in style on Sunday when the Italian craftsman downed the talented yet erratic Holger Rune 7-5 3-6 6-3 6-2 to reach the French Open quarter-finals for the first time. World number seven Musetti, who will take on American 15th seed Frances Tiafoe for a place in the last four, adjusted to the Dane's shift to a swashbuckling approach to keep his title hopes alive in a year that has seen him steady his game. For the 10th-seeded Rune, it was yet another failure against a member of the top 10 at a Grand Slam as he was denied a third quarter-final appearance at Roland Garros. "Last night I was dreaming of this match against Holger and I was playing at that level. I need to be very good, and I am really proud of myself tonight," said Musetti. Musetti, who said he has put some order in his game, arrived in Paris having reached at least the semi-finals in all three Masters events this season on clay. He did not disappoint on the Philippe Chatrier court, delighting the crowd with a handful of exquisite shots, notably from his impressive single-handed backhand. "I complain less now, I'm more steady," he said. The 23-year-old made a fast start, breaking in the opening game with a forehand winner before consolidating for a 2-0 lead. The Italian, who came into the match boasting an 11-0 Grand Slam record against players ranked outside the top five, looked sharp early, forcing a break point in the third game before netting a forehand that allowed Rune to steady himself and hold. The opening set remained scrappy, with both players trading breaks as unforced errors piled up on Rune's side of the court. Musetti kept his nose in front, capitalising on Rune's inconsistency to take the first set, with the momentum hinging on whether the Dane could tighten his game. Rune responded well in the second set, adopting a more aggressive approach by charging the net to disrupt Musetti's rhythm. The tactic paid off as the 22-year-old secured a vital break and maintained his composure, sealing the set with a powerful smash to level the match. Errors crept back into Rune's game in the fourth set, allowing Musetti to surge ahead 2-0 as the Italian kept his game tight and composed. Having adjusted to Rune's frequent forays to the net, Musetti began to find his range with a series of precise backhand passing shots. He carved out two break points in the opening game of the third set and converted with a blistering forehand winner, seizing full control of the contest. It was virtually game over when Rune dropped serve again in the fifth game, sending a forehand wide when he had an open court. Musetti wrapped it up on serve with an ace for his first win against Rune in three encounters. Addressing his army of fans in Italian, he said: "To all the Italians who are here in Paris, obviously you've stayed deep into the night, your support was fundamental, it helped me push my limits."

Nottingham Forest close in on Botafogo trio after holding productive talks with Brazilian club
Nottingham Forest have held further productive talks over signing three Botafogo players. Those players are centre-back Jair Cunha, striker Igor Jesus and left-back Cuiabano. Cuiabano was a target for Brighton. Jesus, 24, was wanted by Forest in January. All three played in Sunday's 1-0 with over Santos and Mail Sport expects the deals to be completed following the Club World Cup. Forest attempted to sign Yoane Wissa from Brentford in January and could make another move for him in the summer. Wissa scored 19 non-penalty goals in the Premier League this season, which was level with Erling Halaand and Alexander Isak, and behind only Mohamed Salah 's 20. The arrival of Edu, working across Evangelos Marinakis' clubs, will strengthen ties to the Brazilian market. And that could see Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz become an option, according to Mail Sport's Tom Collomosse. Manchester City playmaker James McAtee, who has had few minutes at the Etihad, is another they admire.
