Legendary north London cafe Norman's is closing
We bring sad tidings for London's fry-up fanatics — the city's favourite posh greasy spoon in shutting its doors. In a post on Monday, May 19, Norman's Cafe, run by Elliot Kaye and Richie Hayes, wrote: 'After 5 great years of Norman's Cafe we have made the very tough decision to close our location in North London.'
Norman's opened in Archway in 2020, beginning life as a sandwich shop before evolving into a proper caff, serving classic British favourites and childhood comfort meals from kippers on toast and jam roly-poly to bubble and squeak and chicken nuggets with chips and beans. In the announcement of the closure Kaye and Hayes added: 'We are both excited to progress and develop with what we have started at Norman's through other avenues and look forward to hopefully seeing some of you again soon.'

More info An Edinburgh pub is launching the city's 'first Guinness garden' with a self-pour machine. Malones in Leith is offering free pints to 50 of the first customers through the door on June 6 to celebrate, from 3pm. The 'lively' terrace is decorated with Guinness inspired planters and promises a 'laid-back vibe'. A new summer sun spot for the area, their self-pour machine claims to be the first of its kind in the city, allowing punters to pour their own perfect pint. Malones Leith General Manager Charlie Douglas, said: "This is a game-changer for Guinness lovers. It's all about the experience - pulling your own pint and enjoying it in the sunshine with friends." The garden will be open from 10pm throughout the summer, and opens just in time for the jazz festival. RAF chief set to be new head of armed forces
The head of the RAF is set to be appointed as the new chief of the British armed forces, according to reports. Air Chief Marshal Sir Richard Knighton is thought to be in line to be the next Chief of Defence Staff. The position is currently held by Admiral Sir Tony Radakin, who has been in the role since 2021. According to his biography on the Government website, Sir Richard joined the RAF in 1989 as a university cadet, and served as deputy chief of the defence staff from 2019 to 2022. The appointment comes as the Government has pledged to increase defence spending in the UK to 2.5% of gross domestic product on defence from April 2027, with a goal of increasing that to 3% over the next parliament, a timetable which could stretch to 2034. The Ministry of Defence said: 'This is speculation. The appointment process is ongoing and any announcement will be made in the usual way.'
