:: June 25, 2025
That was according to local authorities on Wednesday.
The attorney general's office in Guanajuato, the gang-plagued state where Irapuato is located, said several people were hospitalized with gunshot wounds, and that one casualty was a minor, aged 17.
Local media reported that the shooting happened during an evening party for a Catholic holiday.
A witness of the shooting said the gathering started peacefully before chaos erupted.
"We were completely calm, enjoying a family party for San Juan's Day. A celebration we have every year with our family and loved ones, when suddenly, out of nowhere, we were attacked by a group of people. We had to flee and hide."
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said in a press conference on Wednesday that the incident was a regrettable multiple homicide and that it is under investigation.
Guanajuato, has long been one of Mexico's most violent regions, where criminal groups fight over control of the drugs trade and commit other crimes.
On Tuesday, five other people were killed in different parts of the state, according to the attorney general's office.

Kansas deputy, suspect killed in exchange of gunfire after a call about fireworks, authorities say
PHILLIPSBURG, Kansas (AP) — A sheriff's deputy in Kansas responding to a call about fireworks died after being shot by a man who was then killed by the fatally wounded deputy, authorities said. Phillips County Sheriff's Office Deputy Brandon Gaede, 30, was pronounced dead at a hospital about an hour after the shooting Friday evening in Phillipsburg, the sheriff's office said. The city of about 2,000 people is near the state's border with Nebraska. The sheriff's office said Gaede was responding to a call about illegal, non-consumer-grade fireworks being detonated at a home in the city when he made contact with Kolton Griffith, a resident at the home believed to be responsible for the fireworks. When Gaede tried to place Griffith in handcuffs after developing probable cause to arrest him, a struggle broke out and Griffith pulled out a handgun that had been concealed and shot Gaede, the sheriff's office said. Despite being struck by gunfire, Gaede returned fire, hitting Griffith multiple times, the sheriff's office said. Griffith died at the scene. The shooting will be investigated by the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office.

2 men hospitalized following bloody Brooklyn shooting
Two men were hospitalized early Saturday following a shooting at a Brooklyn intersection, according to police. Cops responding to a 911 call of shots fired near the corner of E. 95th St. and Lenox Road in East Flatbush found a 19-year-old man shot in the stomach and a 20-year-old suffering a graze wound to his left leg. EMS took both men to Brookdale University Hospital, where they were expected to survive. Neither victim would tell police what happened, officials said. Cops were scouring the area looking for any surveillance footage that could help them identify the shooter. On Thursday night, about 2 miles away, two men were shot, one fatally, when a gunman opened fire on a group of people on E. 94th St. near Ave. L in Canarsie. Surveillance footage recovered by the Daily News shows the unidentified suspect in a black hoodie and blue medical gloves casually approach, pull a handgun tucked into his rear waistband and open fire, letting loose about eight shots. Victim Mitch Innocent, 21, died from a gunshot wound to the head, cops said. Innocent lived in Elmont, Long Island. The second victim is expected to survive. The gunman in Thursday's shooting remained at large Saturday. Police did not immediately connect the two shootings. Despite the back to back incidents, shootings in Patrol Borough Brooklyn South, where both acts of violence took place, were down by 10% as of June 22, from 47 this time last year to 42, cops said.
