EXCLUSIVE Islamist terrorist who plotted to attack iconic shopping centre and nightclub with 'dirty bomb' is deported to Pakistan
One of the UK's most dangerous terrorists jailed for life over a plot to bomb the Bluewater shopping centre has been deported to Pakistan.
Jawad Akbar, 23, plotted to blow up Bluewater shopping centre in Kent, bomb the Ministry of Sound nightclub in London and set off a radioactive 'dirty' bomb.
The 2004 attacks would have caused huge damage and could have killed hundreds of innocent people.
Akbar, from Crawley, West Sussex, was sentenced to life in April 2007 after being found guilty of conspiracy to cause explosions.
He was given a minimum term of 17-and-a-half years.
In July 2022, the Parole Board deemed him too dangerous to be released. One of the main considerations was that the UK could not be sure that Akbar would be adequately supervised if he was deported.
Akbar's minimum jail term ended in September 2021 and he should have been eligible for a second parole hearing sometime in 2023.
However, MailOnline has discovered this did not happen and he was deported to Pakistan in the last year.
As well as targeting the shopping centre, he also plotted to bomb the Ministry of Sound nightclub in London and set off a radioactive 'dirty' bomb
The Home Office confirmed that Akbar, now 41, was deported.
It is believed this went ahead under a joint 'returns agreement' scheme signed in 2019 by the Conservative government and Pakistan.
The then Home Secretary Priti Patel said the legislation would be used to return foreign criminals and immigration offenders from the UK to Pakistan.
She said at the time: 'I make no apology for removing dangerous foreign criminals and immigration offenders who have no right to remain in the UK.
'The British public have quite rightly had enough of people abusing our laws and gaming the system so we can't remove them.'
The Home Office refuses to comment on individual cases and declined to elaborate on the reasons why the committed terrorist was allowed to return to Pakistan, where he was born.
In a statement, a Home Office spokesperson said: 'Any foreign national who is convicted of a crime and given a prison sentence is considered for deportation at the earliest opportunity.'
The Home Office had originally tried to deport him to Italy, where his father has citizenship.
It is believed the family first moved to Italy after leaving Pakistan.
Akbar was part of a five strong British born or British resident gang of Pakistani heritage linked to Al-Qaeda in Pakistan.
Waheed Mahmood, 35, Omar Khyam, 25, Anthony Garcia, 24, Salahuddin Amin, 32, were the other defendants in the 2006 trial. All five were handed life sentences.
During the trial it was revealed the gang were poised to attack the shopping centre with a massive device, made for just £100 containing ammonium nitrate and aluminium powder.
The home-made bomb was made from household ingredients, inspired by the Oklahoma City bomber Tim McVeigh, who killed 168 people with an almost identical device in 1995.
At the time, judge Sir Michael Astill QC, said: 'All of you were determined to cause indiscriminate death, injury and suffering of unsuspecting and innocent members of the community.'
'This was demonstrated by the discussions that took place about where improvised devices could be placed, such as the Bluewater retail complex and the Ministry of Sound.
'These are examples of sites where numerous members of the public congregated and became vulnerable targets.
'They demonstrate the scale of horror, which you were prepared to inflict and would have inflicted but for the intervention of the security services and the police.'
Waheed Mahmood and Anthony Garcia were freed on parole in 2024. Salahuddin Amin had a parole request turned down in February 2024.

Philip Culling targeted the "vulnerable" pupil while he was director of music at Godolphin and Latymer School in West London. 2 The married dad-of-three, who was in his 40s at the time, had a sexual relationship with the 19-year-old. This included intimate liaisons in his office and a sexual encounter in a cupboard that was interrupted by a dinner lady. His fling was reportedly an "open secret" among staff at the £33,000-a-year private school. He was allowed to quietly resign in 2014 without facing a disciplinary hearing, which allowed him to continue working in education. This included a stint at Holland Park Pre-Prep and Nursery in 2016, which was just one mile from his previous post. But in 2022 - eight years after his resignation - a whistleblower came forward, which triggered a formal probe. Culling has now been banned from teaching for life following a tribunal. The Teaching Regulation Agency found he had embarked on an "inappropriate sexual relationship with a vulnerable pupil". Panel chair Jo Palmer-Tweed said: "Mr Culling was a child protection officer at the school, and as such had appropriate training in safeguarding. "Despite this, he took advantage of the position of trust he was in towards a vulnerable child for his own gratification." The tribunal was told Culling and the girl met up secretly, kissed in parks and embraced in the school lift. They first had sex in a park following a leavers' reception in June 2013 and the pupil performed a sex act on him after the school's jazz night. After the teen left school in 2013, Culling would visit her home while her mum was out and the pair would have sex. The hearing was told: "Mr Culling came around, approximately once a week, and that they would talk and have sexual intercourse. "She stated that she moved into a flat in late August 2013, and that a lot of sexual acts including touching and oral sex happened in very public areas." Culling bought the girl, who was named only as Person B, gifts and referred to her as the "LOML" - love of my life - in a good luck message before her A-levels. He also signed a Valentine's card addressed to "by far the most gorgeous and wonderful person in the entire world". Culling took the girl to the pub for her birthday drink during school hours and received oral sex from her in the cupboard on a number of occasions. Goldolphin leaders did not contact police or teaching regulators because they believed the relationship had only started when the teenager left the school. The girl told the tribunal that Culling had "asked her lie" about the relationship in 2014 amid fears he would lose his job. The deputy head coached her on how to make the fling sound as "recent as it could be", it was said. He even messaged her in 2023 after the probe was launched in a bid to convince her not to help the investigation. Culling told her: "I'm hoping you'll agree with me that it is best not to engage with it. You can't be made to." He has now been banned from teaching indefinitely, with no review period, after being found him guilty of unacceptable professional conduct. The watchdog said: "The panel heard evidence of the long-term impact on Person B including the shame she feels as a result of their relationship and of having been coerced to lie to protect him. "It has tainted her memories of her school experience, and she referred to having 'struggled to see herself in a good light'. "Mr Culling's conduct led to Person B being exposed to, or influenced by, his behaviour in a harmful way." Israel confirms Hamas terror chief ‘The Shadow' is dead as it releases footage of his hiding place in secret tunnels
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have confirmed that Hamas chief Mohammed Sinwar was killed in a strike on the European hospital in southern Gaza as it released footage of his body being discovered in secret tunnels. The de facto leader of the terror group, 49, was eliminated in an IDF strike on May 13 with troops on Sunday recovering his body from a tunnel in Khan Yunis. The military made the announcement after the body had gone through an identification process, with the military sharing on X Sinwar's alleged Israeli and Hamas documentation, as well as his driver's license. In bodycam footage of the find also posted to X, a soldier enters a deep tunnel outside the medical facility before making their way down a dim corridor. They stumble into a packed out room filled with what appears to be guns and ammunition before panning the camera to find Sinwar's camouflaged body on the ground. The IDF member then makes their way through several other tunnels which lead to dark rooms filled with equipment. The IDF wrote: 'Mohammad Sinwar was responsible for the deaths of countless civilians. He was eliminated in an IDF & ISA strike on May 13. 'His body was found beneath the European hospital in Khan Yunis - more proof of how Sinwar, and Hamas, hide behind their civilians and purposely embed themselves in civilian areas, such as hospitals. The attack killed 28 Palestinians and wounded more than 50 others, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said after the strike. Hamas apparently hid Sinwar's body in a tunnel to prevent Israel verifying his death and to ensure he could receive a high-profile funeral at a time of the group's choosing. According to Israeli reports, its military took advantage of Sinwar briefly separating himself from some of the hostages who remain in Hamas custody following the atrocities of October 7, 2023. Sinwar used the hostages as human shields, confident Israel would not target him, but he attended talks with Hamas political leaders on May 13 without them. Word reached Israeli military commanders, and to the surprise of those involved in the operation, authorization was granted for air strikes close to the hospital. Mohammed Sinwar took over the leadership of Hamas's military wing last year following the death of his older brother Yahya. Remarkable footage recorded by a drone showed Yahya sitting in an armchair in the devastated remains of a multi-story building following an air strike in October. He appeared to wave a piece of floorboard in defiance at the reconnaissance drone. Minutes later an air strike reduced the structure to rubble. Israeli soldiers subsequently dragged Yahya's body from the rubble. His death was a watershed moment for the country as he was the main planner behind the October 7 attacks which killed 1,200 people and resulted in 250 hostages being taken into Gaza. The atrocity triggered Israel's retaliatory assault on the Occupied Palestinian Territories which has cost more than 50,000 lives, led to two million people being displaced and caused a humanitarian catastrophe. The celebration in Israel surrounding Mohammed Sinwar's death came amid shocking scenes of humanitarian aid centers being over-run and crowds looting boxes of desperately needed supplies in Gaza. Controversially, Israel has sidelined the major international aid agencies and set up its own distribution system in conjunction with the U.S. It said it did not want Hamas to intercept aid meant for Gaza residents. Opponents of Israel have accused the country of orchestrating the provision of lifesaving supplies effectively to enable ethnic cleansing.
