Liverpool star responds to rumours he could complete Bayern Munich transfer

Cody Gakpo has distanced himself from reports that he could be set to leave Liverpool for Bayern Munich. The 26-year-old forward enjoyed a strong season with the Reds, racking up ten goals and four assists in the Premier League to help the club win a record-equaling 20th title. But there has been some speculation that Gakpo's time on Merseyside could be coming to an end, with German champions Bayern having identified him as a target for the transfer window. Leroy Sane is expected to move on from the Allianz Arena this summer and Bayern are scouring the transfer market for a left-sided attacker to replace the four-time Bundesliga winner. However, Liverpool head coach Arne Slot is determined to keep hold his fellow countryman and has reportedly told club bosses to do everything in their power to block his exit. The Dutch attacker has three years remaining on his current contract with Liverpool. Facing the media ahead of the Netherlands' 2-0 victory over Finland, Gakpo insisted he had no knowledge of any interest from Bayern. 'I haven't heard anything about it myself. I'm closing myself off from it,' he told reporters. 'Maybe my agent has heard something, but I'm focusing on myself.' Gakpo has been with Liverpool for three years having completed a move from PSV Eindhoven for a fee in the region of £40million in January 2023. In March, Gakpo credited Slot with transforming his game after a somewhat mixed opening 18 months in English football. 'I think he offered me a lot. The first thing he did was change my position slightly, so back to the left,' the former PSV man said. More Trending 'That was maybe a small change on paper but for me it was a big change. 'Then I had to come into the team as well and he gave me the chance to show myself. 'Obviously he's trying to help me to develop myself in moments in the game, how to be smarter, how to be better, how to get yourself more in scoring positions and giving the decisive pass and everything like this. 'He's helping me a lot. The manager and the staff, they try to help everybody, and I think everybody can see a lot of players are developing well.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Al-Hilal turn attention to Bruno Fernandes' Portugal team-mate after failing in their pursuit of Manchester United captain

Al-Hilal have set their sights on another Premier League midfielder after their failed pursuit of Manchester United 's Bruno Fernandes. Fernandes turned down a stunning £200m proposal from Saudi giants Al-Hilal, according to reports. The Saudi side made the Red Devils skipper their priority signing ahead of the upcoming Club World Cup and were prepared to offer the Portuguese a tax-free contract in the region of £700,000-a-week plus bonuses, treble his weekly earnings in England. Mail Sport revealed that Fernandes' agent, Miguel Pinho, spent three days at the Four Seasons hotel in Riyadh last week, where he held face-to-face talks with club officials. However, news broke on Tuesday morning claim that Fernandes came to a decision over his future and rejected the proposal from the Saudi giants. And now they have turned their attention to a midfielder from United's rivals Manchester City. Foot Mercato report that midfielder Bernardo Silva is high on the club's shortlist after the club appointed former Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi. The outlet adds that Al-Hilal have already submitted a contractual offer to Silva, who is currently in Germany ahead of Sunday's Nations League final in Munich. Silva, 30, is entering the final year of his current contract at the Etihad after eight years at the club. He has contributed 71 goals and 72 assists in 404 appearances for the Citizens, helping them win six Premier League titles and the Champions League.

We got away with it – Harry Kane admits England lacked quality in Andorra win

After starting World Cup qualification, and the German's reign, with Wembley wins against Albania and Latvia, things fell flat against the 173rd-best team in the world in Barcelona. England were booed by many of the 6,950 travelling fans after a scoreless first half against Andorra, with further jeers greeting the final whistle after Tuchel's men failed to kick on from Kane's 50th-minute goal. England goal number 7️⃣2️⃣ for @HKane ⚽️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 — England (@England) June 7, 2025 The candid head coach felt the Euro 2024 runners-up 'played with fire' due to their lack of 'seriousness and urgency', with the skipper sharing similar sentiments. 'It wasn't our greatest performance,' Kane said. 'I don't think it's one many people are going to remember, that's for sure, but it's three points in the bag. 'But, yeah, for sure we know we can play better in all aspects, both with and without the ball. 'It's down to us now to go analyse it, look back and try and learn from it because condition-wise it's going to be very similar to next summer – dry pitch, warm weather, humid. 'We were just lacking quality, looked a bit fatigued both physically and mentally and, yeah, we got away with it because we're a good team and they had a couple of half-chances there where we didn't get punished. But ultimately, it wasn't good enough.' Kane has scored in all three matches under Tuchel, his former manager at Bayern Munich, with the latest effort extending England's all-time top scorer's record goal haul to 72. Noni Madueke capped a man-of-the-match display by providing the cross for the winner and the captain felt this kind of match cried out for the directness of a talent like the Chelsea winger. 'He was really good today,' Kane said as attention turns to Tuesday's friendly against Senegal. 'I think in these type of games, you need players like Noni who are good one-v-one to sometimes make a difference. 'It's a dry pitch, not easy to move the ball quickly, so sometimes you rely on individual quality and I thought he was probably our best outlet today. 'The goal itself was probably our best move of the game in terms of how we wanted to play, more in terms of Curt (Jones) getting on it and playing the forward pass to me, and then obviously the rebound and back across. 'It was probably our best move and we just didn't have enough of that, both with probably the runs and also the quality – a lot of balls kind of overhit, out of play, and it just kind of killed our momentum, especially there in the second half.'
