Distraught mother calls for action after daughter (6) raped on school premises
The heartbroken mother of a young eSikhaleni rape victim demands justice and the arrest of the suspect.
This after the victim (6) was reportedly raped by a fellow pupil at Mizikayifani Primary School.
The incident occurred on Friday, 25 April at the school premises, and the matter was reported the following day to the police.
'My daughter said the incident occurred during the break inside the school toilets. What hurts is that the school is aware of the incident, the police are also aware, but nothing has been done.
'I was forced to remove my daughter from the school as no one is interested in doing anything. The boy is roaming the streets freely,' she said.
She said her daughter confided in her older sister about her rape ordeal.
'I discovered she was bleeding. I was shocked and could not believe my eyes. As I was still confused, I allowed her to go and play.
'After a short while, I called her back and ordered her to lie on the bed. That is when I started to believe she had been raped.
'I immediately packed the underwear she wore the previous day and rushed to the clinic.
'At the clinic, nurses called the police and she was taken to Ngwelezana's Thuthuzela Centre where the doctor confirmed the child was raped,' said a vividly distraught mother.
King Cetshwayo Cluster police spokesperson, Captain Siyanda Shangase confirmed that a rape case was opened at eSikhaleni SAPS and is being investigated by the Empangeni Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit.
Commenting on the incident, the DA in the province called on KZN police commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi to ensure the immediate arrest of the suspect.
DA's Sakhile Mngadi MPL said the young girl concerned was not raped on an isolated dirt pathway, but within the very walls of her school; a place that should be a sanctuary of knowledge and protection became the backdrop of a brutal violation.
'Today, the alleged perpetrator, described by the child as a 'much older boy', still walks freely and routinely frequents the classroom and speaks to the teacher.
'His ongoing presence is a continued threat to every child within this school,' said Mngadi.
The Department of Education was contacted for comment but a response is still forthcoming.

Child Protection Week: Missing teenager the silver bullet to reinforce safety
CAPE TOWN - The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Western Cape says it hopes the disappearance of 16-year-old Channelle Plaatjies during Child Protection Week will be the spark that brings about change to protect young lives. The community of Paarl East has rallied to search for the teen, who was reported missing last week. During a search on Monday, police discovered the body of a person in a bushy area behind Allandale Prison in Paarl. However, the body is yet to be positively identified, and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death. DA Western Cape Spokesperson on Social Development, Wendy Kaizer-Philander, said, "It is with deep sorrow that we as the Democratic Alliance in the Western Cape stand with the Plaatjies family and the broader Paarl community in this time of anguish and uncertainty. We remain resolute to protect every child in this province through the various parliamentary processes."

Doorless car: Mkhwanazi calls for disciplinary action against cop in viral video
KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has ordered that disciplinary steps be taken against a police officer who was captured on a viral video driving a doorless marked police car. The video was taken on Sunday, 1 June, as the police vehicle was involved in an accident in the Durban North policing precincts where it collided with a minibus taxi. According to the police, the driver at the time of the accident was a female Warrant Officer who was trapped inside the vehicle, and the door had to be removed to rescue her. KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said without the door, although in a drivable condition, the vehicle should have been towed back to the police station. 'Instead of following prescribed procedures, another driver, also a Warrant Officer, drove the vehicle to the station, endangering his life and putting the name and the image of the SAPS into disrepute,' he said. Netshiunda said that although the doorless car was being escorted by another blue-light vehicle, which the video does not show, the fact remains that the car was not supposed to be driven in such an unroadworthy condition. Condemning the police officer, Mkhwanazi said they are working so hard to protect the image of the police in the province of KwaZulu-Natal and are doing their best to regain public trust. Mkhwanazi said the management of police in KwaZulu-Natal will not allow anyone to tarnish the image by disregarding regulations and procedures. 'The member who was driving the vehicle, the officer who gave such an unlawful instruction for the vehicle to be driven and anyone else who was involved in the decision to have that vehicle driven in that condition will be subjected to internal disciplinary processes. 'We shall never allow anyone to undo the positive impact that police have been making to create a safe and secure environment for all the people in the province of KwaZulu-Natal,' he added.
