Minjee Lee in box seat for third major after blitzing field at PGA Championship
Australian golf star Minjee Lee has put herself right in the box seat for a third major after blitzing the field to open up a commanding four-stroke lead heading into the final round of the women's PGA Championship in Texas.
Starting her third round in second spot, three shots behind Thailand's halfway leader Atthaya Thitikul, Lee shot a flawless bogey-free round of three-under-69 to jump to the top of the leaderboard at six-under-par for the tournament.
'I just tried to stay patient out there, you can't get ahead of yourself, especially in these conditions,' she said.
'It's only getting harder and harder with the pressure of a major championship and also the course just demands so much from you.
'So I think I'll just try to stay within myself and play the best shot I could, so just stay patient and take it as it comes.'
Like every other player on the course, Thitikul struggled in the tricky windy conditions at Fields Ranch East at Frisco, shooting a 76 to end the day at two-under.
Lee and Thitikul are the only players under par for the championship, the third women's major for 2025.
Their three closest pursuers — American Lexi Thompson, Korea's Hye-Jin Choi and Japan's Miya Yamashita — all finished at one–over, seven behind Lee, the older sister of PGA star Minwoo.
Lee is already a dual major champion after claiming the Evian Championship in 2021 and the US Open in 2022.
'I know what it takes to win and I know just kind of what to feel and what to expect now that I have two under my belt,' Lee said.
'I just think the experience that I've had is really going to help me.'

Irish master trainer Willie Mullins strengthens Melbourne Cup hand with Royal Ascot winner Sober
Irish master trainer Willie Mullins has bolstered a potential Melbourne Cup hand with Australian-owned Royal Ascot winner Sober also being aimed at Flemington. OTI Racing stayer Sober won the Queen Alexandra Stakes (4355m) by five lengths on Sunday (AEST). Mullins unveiled Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes-winner Ethical Diamond 24 hours earlier as a possible Cup raider. Ethical Diamond is raced by the owners of Mullins stablemate Absurde, who could also return for a third shot at the Melbourne Cup after placing fifth and seventh respectively the past two years. 'We bought this guy (Sober) and he is a lot better than we thought he would be,' Mullins said. 'I thought he had improved, and it looks like he has improved an awful lot. 'Terry (Henderson, OTI Racing director) would want to bring him down for the Melbourne Cup, so hopefully we get him qualified … there are a lot of hoops to jump through, but we will get them done.' Ethical Diamond is $18 in pre-nominations Melbourne Cup betting, while Sober, not currently in futures market, could attract a similar quote.
