Kedarnath fraud: 51 sites, 56 bank accounts down
The Uttarakhand Police Special Task Force (STF) has shut down around 51 fake websites, blocked as many as 30 WhatsApp & 111 phone numbers and frozen a total of 56 bank accounts used to swindle Kedarnath Yatra pilgrims. Over 37 social media pages have also been taken down. Scammers had reportedly created websites and heavily promoted them on social media to extract money from unsuspecting pilgrims looking for affordable tickets. 'Ensuring the visitors' safety and preventing their exploitation is our priority,' an STF official stated, urging yatris not to fall for rackets being operated by unscrupulous elements.

Sharmistha Panoli was arrested on May 30 following an FIR lodged against her at Garden Reach Police Station over an Instagram video related to 'Operation Sindoor'. Police said she was untraceable before her arrest, prompting the issuance of an arrest warrant. Internship Planned Before FIR, Says Sharmistha Panoli's Father In a written statement, Sharmistha Panoli's father Prithviraj Panoli clarified that his daughter had travelled to Gurugram to begin an internship with a reputed Delhi-based advocate. 'Sharmistha began her internship at Nehru Enclave on May 22. Prior to that, she had also completed internships in Delhi earlier this year," he said. Sharmistha Panoli had travelled to Kolkata from Pune, where she studies law, on May 15—the same day the FIR was registered, he said. Sharmistha Panoli's Father Says They Remained In Touch With Police Prithviraj Panoli said that communication with Kolkata Police's cyber cell continued through WhatsApp until May 26. 'We deactivated regular calls because of the constant threats coming from across the country and abroad," he said, adding that Sharmistha continued her internship until May 29, the day before her arrest. He said, 'As per information received, WB Police conducted many searches in Saharanpur, Noida, Ghaziabad etc. even though, we were put up in a single hotel in Gurugram for the entire period from 20th May early morning till 30th May till Sharmishta was arrested." Mobile recovery mela: Over 601 stolen phones worth over ₹12 crore returned
The police in Annamayya district recovered 601 lost or stolen mobile phones valued at about ₹1.2 crore and returned them to their rightful owners during the seventh 'Mobile Recovery Mela' held at the district police office on Wednesday. Interestingly, many of the recovered mobile phones were traced to Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and even as far as Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. Speaking to the media, Superintendent of Police V. Vidyasagar Naidu said: 'Between November 2024 and May 2025, the police received over 1,300 complaints related to missing or stolen mobile phones. A special team was formed on May 5, led by Inspector S. Mohammad Ali and Technical Analysis Reserve Inspector T. John Joseph. We used the services of the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal and WhatsApp network to trace and recover the lost or stolen devices. So far, across seven phases, the team has successfully traced and recovered 1,627 mobile phones worth about ₹3.16 crore. Mr. Naidu said that people who have lost their mobiles can report the loss by simply sending a 'Hi' message to the police's WhatsApp number, 8688830012, or can register their complaint on the CEIR website. There is no need to file FIR. The SP appealed to people to immediately block the numbers of the lost mobiles and asked them to avoid purchasing second-hand phones without valid receipts.

Jasbir Singh, a YouTuber arrested in Punjab for allegedly spying for Pakistan, tried to erase data linking him to Pakistani agents after Jyoti Malhotra's arrest. Malhotra, a Haryana-based YouTuber, was arrested along with six others in May for allegedly passing sensitive information to Pakistani who operates a YouTube channel called 'Jaan Mahal' with 1.1 million subscribers, is a resident of Mahlan village. He was arrested in Mohali on Wednesday for his alleged involvement in a Pakistani espionage network. He also maintained 'close contact' with Malhotra, who was arrested on charges of spying, and Ehsan-ur-Rahim alias Danish, a former official at the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi who was expelled on espionage Jyoti Malhotra's arrest, Jasbir Singh attempted to delete all digital traces of his communication with foreign handlers, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Wednesday. Yadav posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, saying, "Acting swiftly on actionable intelligence, SSOC Mohali has unearthed a critical espionage network linked to Jasbir Singh, a resident of Village Mahlan, Rupnagar."Investigations further revealed that Jasbir attended the Pakistan National Day event in Delhi on Danish's invitation, where he met Pakistani Army officials and vloggers. He also traveled to Pakistan on three different occasions (2020, 2021, and 2024), and his electronic devices contained multiple Pakistan-based numbers, which are now under comprehensive forensic the Pakistan National Day celebration, Singh also posed with Jyoti Malhotra and Danish and shared pictures of the event on his Instagram to Punjab Police, Jasbir Singh was closely linked to Pakistani intelligence officer Shakir alias Jutt Randhawa, a person of Indian origin suspected to be operating for Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). He also maintained ties with Ehsan-ur-Rahim alias FIR has been registered at the State Special Operation Cell in Mohali.
