Angry Birds Is Coming to Apple Arcade in July

CNET20 hours ago

Angry Birds took mobile gaming by storm in 2009 with its simple controls and entertaining gameplay, and it helped spawn a media franchise. Now, more than a decade after the first game's launch, the series is bringing a new twist to Apple Arcade on July 3 with Angry Birds Bounce.
Apple Arcade is filled with familiar and classic games, alongside exclusive titles, that you can play for $7 per month (£7, AU$10). You can find many of these games in the App Store, but they may have paywalls and ads that hinder your gaming experience.
With an Apple Arcade subscription, you can play each game without paywalls and ads, a feature usually denoted by "Plus" in the name. Here are all the games Apple will add to the service in July. You can also check out the games Apple added in June.
Angry Birds Bounce
Developer: Rovio
Apple
Red, Chuck and the other birds are back in a new adventure. The pigs have taken over the birds' island, and in order to reclaim it, the birds will have to flock together. But unlike the original game, Bounce offers brick-breaker-like gameplay, and rogue-like elements bring a new challenge to each level. While this isn't the original Angry Birds, you'll still need precision shots to win the day.
Kingdom Rush 5: Alliance TD Plus
Developer: Ironhide Game Studio
Apple
The award-winning tower defense saga is back with more chaos, strategy and powers. With 15 heroes to choose from, 17 unique towers, 22 detailed campaign stages and more than 40 baddies to stop, you'll have to use all your wits to come up with a winning plan. This entry in the series has the same funny tone as previous games, which ensures the skeleton enemies are pretty humerus.
Suika Game Plus
Developer: XGIMI
Apple
Put your packing skills to the test with this casual puzzle game. The goal is to merge fruits in a box together to make larger fruits, culminating in the creation of a watermelon. But be careful. The fruit bounce around when you drop them in the box, and if the fruit overflows out of the box, it's game over.
Crayola Scribble Scrubbie Pets Plus
Developer: Red Games Co.
Apple
Immerse yourself in a vibrant 3D world to color, care for and play with over 90 digital creatures in this pet simulator game. You or other young players can have a traditional pet, like a cat, a dog or even a mythical companion, like a unicorn. After you've fed and groomed your pet, you can take them on imaginative journeys to the beach, the desert and other places.
You can access these games on Apple Arcade on July 3, and you can access many other games on the service now for $7 per month or $50 a year. You can also try Apple Arcade free for one month with your first sign-up, or you can get a three-month free trial when you buy a new Apple device. To access Apple Arcade, open the App Store on your iPhone or iPad, and tap the joystick in the menu bar.

Trump set to attend first day of Iowa State Fair in August

Washington — President Trump intends to open the Iowa State Fair on the first day of the 11-day event in August, according to sources familiar with the plan, revisiting a presidential campaign ritual in a state that helped deliver his return to the White House. Mr. Trump's visit, marked on the White House calendar for Aug. 7, is seen as an effort to shore up farm country for Republicans and to help celebrate the 250th anniversary of the nation's independence. Vice President JD Vance is also planning to attend the fair, but on a different day, according to one of the sources. Further details are expected to be locked in by late June. White House spokespeople declined to comment. Mr. Trump was last at the Iowa State Fair in August 2023, five months before the first votes in the GOP presidential primary contest, when his campaign was overshadowed by legal troubles, including an election conspiracy case. He has told advisers that he had a great time on that visit on the third day of the fair, relishing the spectacle that included a flyover in his private jet as his chief competitor, Ron DeSantis, was in the middle of an event, surrounded by reporters. On a stroll around the fairgrounds, Mr. Trump was mobbed with people, and attendance spiked to a record for the year with more than 118,000 visitors. He won the Iowa caucuses in January 2024 by about 30 points. Former President Donald Trump tossed a hat in the air while supporters cheer for him during the 2023 Iowa State Fair on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2023. Demetrius Freeman/The Washington Post via Getty Images A year ago, Mr. Trump said that if he were elected again, he would organize a big bash ahead of the nation's semiquincentennial on July 4, 2026, with a year-long exhibition that he hoped would be hosted at the Iowa State Fairgrounds with "pavilions from all 50 states." The state fair is a summer reunion for Iowans that showcases agriculture and middle America, with a life-sized cow sculpted out of butter, vendors selling deep-fried treats, carnival rides and animal shows. Iowa, the first state in the GOP primary calendar, has already attracted other politicians from both parties in recent weeks. Mr. Trump has repeatedly said his supports want him to run again, but he signaled in a May interview with NBC News that he wouldn't try to seek a third term, which is barred under the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution. "It's something that, to the best of my knowledge, you're not allowed to do," Mr. Trump said in May. "I'll be an eight-year president," he added. "I'll be a two-term president." Sen. Rand Paul, a Republican from Kentucky, spoke at a state party event in Cedar Rapids on May 29. Sen. Bernie Sanders, a n independent from Vermont, delivered remarks in February in Iowa City, as part of his "Fight Oligarchy" tour. His team also held organizing calls in competitive congressional districts in April. In 2023, the Democratic National Committee stripped Iowa of its "first in the nation" status in the party's nominating process. The DNC has not yet set its primary calendar for 2028. Mr. Trump first attended the fair as a reality television star, real estate mogul and presidential hopeful in 2015, when he gave children a ride on his personal helicopter and sought to outshine Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Sanders, who were there at the same time. He returned to the fairgrounds to speak at a fundraising event for Sen. Joni Ernst in 2016 and held a rally there in fall 2021.

Kanye West makes court appearance in Sean Combs's trial

Ye, the controversial rapper formerly known as Kanye West, appeared at Sean 'Diddy' Combs's sex trafficking trial on Friday — causing a brief spectacle inside the courthouse as he continues his public campaign calling for the music mogul's release from jail. Dressed in all white, Ye arrived at the Manhattan courthouse just after 11 a.m. on Friday with Combs's son Christian 'King' Combs and was reportedly directed to the courtroom's overflow room. He left after about 40 minutes.

Boston Dynamics robots dance to ‘Don't Stop Me Now' for ‘America's Got Talent' audition

A dance crew of four-legged robots from Boston Dynamics appeared on 'America's Got Talent' to perform a synchronized routine to Queen's 'Don't Stop Me Now.' Their performance was impressive enough to earn four 'yes' votes from the judges — but one of the five robots experienced some stage fright, perhaps, and shut down in the middle of the routine. But the show must go on, so nevertheless, the four other robots persisted. 'Can I be honest with you?' judge Simon Cowell asked at the conclusion of their performance. 'I don't mean this in a cruel way. It was weirdly better that one of them died… because it showed how difficult this was.' Cowell has a point — we can understand the technology better when we see where and how it can fail. For many years, Boston Dynamics was tight-lipped about the mishaps of its robots, cultivating an image of these perfect, futuristic beings who can do no wrong. But a few years back, the company shared footage that shows how precisely engineered the robots need to be to create the kinds of videos that go viral. "We'll be singing / when we're winning." 🔊 — Brian Heater (@bheater) August 17, 2021 'A natural consequence of pushing robots to their limit is that, sometimes, those limits are met,' Boston Dynamics wrote in a blog post at the time, recounting how its Atlas robots would often lose balance and fall while doing parkour. In a silver lining for Boston Dynamics, the robots' imperfect television performance might end up being more memorable than a perfectly executed (dare I say, robotic?) dance.
