Guernsey dolphin trail delay as vandals break statue
Vandals have broken a giant dolphin statue that was set to be part of a fundraising trail around Guernsey and Herm.Echo the dolphin is one of 62 statues which will be stationed around the island as part of a special trail to raise funds for Guernsey's largest animal welfare charity and Autism Guernsey.GSPCA manager Steve Byrne said the "deliberate vandalism" was discovered on Saturday morning and has been reported to the police.Andrew Sparks, director of Autism Guernsey, said: "We were just days away now in getting all the dolphins in place, but this sadly means a slight delay."
The statue was decorated by pupils from St Martin's Primary School, and head teacher Clare Giles said the incident "was very sad news".Mr Byrne said once the statue had been repaired, pupils would be able to redecorate it.He added that the damage occurred either on Friday night or the early hours of Saturday morning."In all the years these events have taken place, this is the first time such deliberate vandalism has occurred," he said.Anyone with relevant information about the vandalism has been urged to contact police.Sixty eight dolphin sculptures will eventually be placed around the island, which people will be able to track down via an app.

Security beefed up at Kellingley Clubafter vandalism
Security measure have been beefed at a former social club after vandals damaged the site during ongoing redevelopment roof and children's changing facilities were damaged at the Kellingley Club in Knottingley, Wakefield Council said. The local authority condemned the incident and said police would be giving "extra attention to the site", while additional security cameras have been installed.A private security firm has also been hired to conduct patrols of the site, which is in the process of being redeveloped. New changing rooms, a bar, improved parking and better spectator seating are being created at the site as part of a £6.3m improvement scheme. The council's deputy leader Jack Hemingway, said: "It is a real shame that the actions of a few are impacting on the delivery of projects designed to benefit the whole community. "Knottingley is a wonderful community, and these senseless acts of vandalism are not representative of the people who live there. "These new security measures will help us get work back on track, to provide residents with the new, improved community facilities they asked for."I would ask those responsible for the damage to consider the wider implications of their actions. The Council doesn't have unlimited funds. Every time we spend money repairing or replacing something deliberately damaged or vandalised, it means less money for the vital services that people depend on." Jackie Robinson mural in Miami defaced with hate speech
June 6 - Miami murals honoring baseball trailblazers Jackie Robinson and Minnie Minoso were defaced with swastikas and racist slurs this week. The vandalism in the city's Overtown neighborhood was reported Monday to police, who told The Athletic on Friday that they are investigating the incident as a hate crime. The defacements of the murals in Dorsey Park included swastikas painted over the players' faces and a racial slur scrawled on Robinson's image. "This was an act of hate, but it will not define us," Kyle Holbrook, the artist who painted the mural in 2011 as part of the MLK Mural Project, told the Miami Herald. "This mural was born from a community's pride, history, and power. We will restore it -- stronger, bolder, and with even more purpose. Black history is American history. And no spray paint can erase that truth." Robinson broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball when he took the field for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. The Hall of Famer's uniform No. 42 is retired throughout the big leagues. Minoso, who was born in Cuba, also broke ground as the first Black Latino player when he played for Cleveland in 1949. He was inducted into Cooperstown in 2022. U.S. Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-Fla.) called the vandalism a "vile act of hatred" in a statement Wednesday. "We must treat this for what it is: a hate crime meant to instill fear and division," she said. "But we will not be intimidated. We will respond with unity, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to truth, justice, and the preservation of our history." Teen arrested after Hart Foodbank burglary in Fleet
A teenage boy has been arrested after a food bank was broken into and vandalised. Police received reports that Hart Foodbank in Fleet, Hampshire, had been broken into between 20:15 BST and 20:45 on 25 Thursday officers arrested a 14-year-old boy from the nearby village of Church Crookham on suspicion of burglary in relation to this incident and another break-in at the same site on the afternoon of Wednesday 5 has now been released on bail until 5 September. The force reported that two windows had been smashed and the building had been added that food had been emptied across the premises and placed in sinks with the taps running, causing water to Geoff Hill, from the Hart neighbourhood policing team, described it as "a disgusting attack on a charity that is just trying to help people in the community".
