Anglesey Boat Tour Operator Expands Fleet to Meet Rising Tourist Demand
A surge in tourism interest around Anglesey's coastline has prompted a Holyhead-based fishing trip company to expand its operations, doubling its fleet and diversifying services to cater to a wider audience. Owned and operated by local fisherman, Dave Jones, Anglesey Fishing and Boat Trips has seen a boom in business, supported by guidance from Business Wales. Founded in July 2023, Anglesey Fishing and Boat Trips originally specialised in bespoke fishing excursions around the Anglesey coast. The business started with a single vessel, The Upholder, but customer demand has quickly seen its offerings evolve to include a broader range of services, including sightseeing tours and private charters to the Isle of Man. Within a year of launching, the company has expanded its fleet to include a second vessel, The Lophelia, the only enclosed rigid inflatable boat (RIB) in Wales. Dave Jones, a lifelong fisherman, was encouraged by his wife, Amanda, who leveraged her skills as a procurement professional to promote the business online. Sensing opportunities for growth beyond traditional fishing tours, the couple sought advice from Business Wales. The organisation's tourism industry experts provided invaluable guidance, helping Dave diversify his services and gain confidence in expanding his business. Dave said: 'I love being a fisherman and I think more people should have the chance to explore the beauty of the coastline that's always supported me and my family. Customers agreed and we quickly felt there was room to grow and bring in new types of tours. Business Wales really helped us explore our options, and we were able to invest confidently in expanding the fleet and the types of trips we offer.' The newest addition to the fleet, The Lophelia, is a significant step forward for Anglesey Fishing and Boat Trips. The boat, which seats 12 and offers an enclosed, weather-protected space for passengers, allows the company to offer private charters to the Isle of Man. These trips have already generated substantial interest, with advance bookings for popular events such as the TT Races, Southern 100, and the Manx Grand Prix. Amanda Jones, who plays a pivotal role in the business's operations, said: 'Dave has been a fisherman his whole life, and the natural progression was to expand our services when we saw so much interest in day trips. Business Wales helped us navigate the right path and gave us the tools to grow.' Business Wales Adviser Svetlana Ross connected Dave with industry specialists, including Digital Adviser Euros Smith and Tom Burke, the Digital Innovation Manager at M-SParc, Wales' first Science Park, to help the company improve its online presence. The company's latest offerings, including sightseeing tours to destinations like South Stack, Skerries, and Llanddwyn Island, have attracted a diverse clientele. With The Upholder continuing to host a variety of fishing experiences, including introductory and wreck fishing, the company caters to both seasoned anglers and tourists. The expansion has been further fuelled by social media success. By participating in Business Wales courses, Anglesey Fishing and Boat Trips is now followed by thousands of people and customers eager to explore the beautiful waters surrounding Anglesey. Amanda said: 'We knew that people wanted to see pictures, videos, and reviews before booking. Business Wales connected us with Euros, who's helping us build an engaging online platform. Sharing content regularly had an immediate effect, as soon as people see what we have here, they want to explore it themselves.' Looking ahead, Dave is optimistic about the company's future. With plans to continue expanding and enhancing its digital presence, Anglesey Fishing and Boat Trips is poised to make waves in the Welsh tourism industry. Svetlana Ross of Business Wales said: 'Dave has a clear vision for the future, and I'm confident that, with the support he's receiving, the business will continue to thrive over the coming months.'

Coastal Scottish town famous for iconic chip shops and birthplace of deep fried Mars bar
A small town on the Aberdeenshire coast with just over 11,000 residents is home to four chip shops, two of which rank among the UK's top 40 Friday, June 6, marks National Fish and Chip Day, with fans across the UK urged to celebrate this iconic British dish. From Shetland to Cornwall, people will be tucking into a humble 'chippie' meal to mark the occasion, or simply because it's Friday. For fish and chip lovers in Scotland, one town stands out as the ultimate destination: Stonehaven, on the stunning Aberdeenshire coast. Despite its modest population of just over 11,000, Stonehaven boasts four c hip shops serving locals, tourists, and daytrippers alike. Impressively, two of these were named among the UK's top 40 by the National Federation of Fish Friers, Scottish Daily Express reports. Redcloak Fish Bar and Carron Fish Bar both earned spots on the list, with judges praising the quality of their fare. Redcloak, located away from the famous harbour, is celebrated for its particularly tasty fish, while the Carron claims to be the birthplace of the legendary deep-fried Mars bar, though it was known as Haven Chip Bar at the time. According to Google, the Carron shares the top spot in the town with Bay Fish and Chips, a firm local favourite boasting more than 90 awards over the years. Even Meyden, the lesser-known chippie, holds an impressive 4.2-star rating with many glowing five-star reviews. Aberdeenshire itself is a haven for chip shops, with six of Scotland's top ten outlets, as ranked by the National Federation, located in the region or nearby Aberdeen. Stonehaven offers much more than excellent fish and chips. Its beach, a blend of sand and shingle, was honoured with a Keep Scotland Beautiful award earlier this year for its cleanliness, facilities, and accessibility. The lively harbour invites visitors to take a stroll to burn off those calories, while the Stonehaven Tolbooth Museum on the quayside provides a glimpse into the town's history. Not far away, the dramatic ruins of Dunnotter Castle perch atop a 160-foot rock, creating one of Scotland's most iconic images. The cliffs surrounding Stonehaven are home to tens of thousands of seabirds, and the town comes alive during the famous Stonehaven Fireballs event, which rings in the New Year with a fiery spectacle. Located about 15 miles south of Aberdeen, Stonehaven can be reached by car from Glasgow or Edinburgh in roughly two and a half hours. Meanwhile, Scotland's favourite fish and chip shop was recently crowned in the eagerly awaited Deliveroo Restaurant Awards. Sea Salt and Sole, with four locations across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, in Dyce, Bridge of Don, Cove, and Ellon, claimed the title of Best Fish and Chips in Scotland 2025. Known for using freshly caught fish and locally sourced ingredients, Sea Salt and Sole has won over foodies with its signature double-cooked chips, which perfectly complement many dishes. The menu changes with the seasons, with careful attention given to everything from the potato varieties to frying temperatures.

Ryanair launches new flights from to two beach holiday hotspots – with fares from £35
Plus, Ryanair's boss also recently warned of record flight delays this summer TAKE OFF Ryanair launches new flights from to two beach holiday hotspots – with fares from £35 RYANAIR has launched flights from Bournemouth to Chania and Rhodes. The new routes both will operate twice per week as part of Ryanair's summer 2025 schedule. 4 Ryanair is launching new flight routes between Bournemouth and Greece Credit: Getty 4 The two destinations in Greece are Rhodes and Chania Credit: Getty Chania, located in Crete, Greece, is known for its 14th-century Venetian harbour, narrow streets and waterfront restaurants. When exploring the harbour, visitors can see a 16th century lighthouse and the Nautical Museum with model ships, naval objects and photographs. The flight from Bournemouth to Chania takes around 3hr45 and flights start from £34.99 per way. Rhodes, also in Greece, is the largest of Greece's Dodecanese islands. It is home to many beach resorts, ancient ruins and a thriving old town, with medieval streets. Rhodes is also home to a beach resort that's an 'adult playground' has live music at breakfast, huge pool and outdoor cinemas. Named Elissa, it is an indoor playground, with boutique shops, tennis courts, fitness studios and a spa. One-way flights from Bournemouth to Rhodes cost from £51.19. The new routes are two of 21 routes that the airline is operating to/from Bournemouth Airport this summer. Ryanair's comms director, Jade Kirwan, said: "Ryanair is pleased to see the first flights of our new Summer 2025 routes from Bournemouth to Chania and Rhodes take-off today carrying lots of happy holidaymakers. I found the perfect adults-only hotel for an all-inclusive Greek island holiday "These exciting new Summer 2025 routes will both operate two times per week, offering our UK customers even more choice at the lowest fares when booking their summer 2025 getaways" Ryanair's boss also recently warned of record flight delays this summer – with the UK now fifth worst in Europe and is expected to get worse. Comments from the CEO, Micheal O'Leary, came after the airline revealed Europe's worst air traffic control centres (ATCs) for delays and the UK has come in fifth worst with thousands of Brits impacted. Of Ryanair's flights between January 1, 2025 and May 26, 2025, 1,642 flights to/from the UK had been delayed. 4 Both Greek destinations boast a wealth of places to explore Credit: Getty In total, this meant that nearly 300,000 British passengers were impacted and experienced flight delays. Ryanair stated that the European Commission and European governments "have taken no action to fix their shoddy ATC services and ATC delays will now be even worse in summer 2025". The CEO added that if staff shortages and ATC issues are not sorted, there will be "record ATC flight delays this summer". In January, Ryanair also announced that it was to launch five new routes from a UK airport in time for the summer holidays.
