'Started as a fitness activity, became a weekend hang'
Many on-court rallies lead to off-court friendships
When Ayush Aggarwal, a Delhi-based lawyer, moved to Noida, he searched for 'racquet sports facility near me' on his first weekend in the area. 'Making full use of my weekend, I chose to play racquet sports at a nearby arena.
I met a few people, we formed a team, and we're now in touch over WhatsApp,' he says.
Like him, many sports enthusiasts across the NCR are heading to sports facilities over the weekend. While they may be going there to reconnect with an old hobby, most of them are finding friendships on the
badminton
court or football field.

'Even if we wrap up work at 3am, we meet for games at 7am'
Weekend sports activities are doubling up as social time.
'I go for badminton on weekends and holidays, sometimes after work too. For us, a group of seven now, playing badminton together takes priority over sleep. Even if we wrap up work at 2 or 3am, we meet on the court at 7am. Our families know each other, we celebrate occasions together, and even go to watch cricket matches, on cycling tours and more,' says Kunwardeep Budhraja, a sales lead based in Noida.
'Game meetups often turn into group brunches or picnics'
Delhi-based merchandiser Arushi Gupta, who along with her four friends, started going to a sports facility on Sundays, now has a group of 15.

'We unwind together on the court and chill with a glass of lemonade after our game. On the weekends, courts are usually full, so we pre-book them.'
I found like-minded individuals who find comfort in intense games. We started as strangers, became friends, and today, one of them is my flatmate

'Always formed healthy, strong connections through badminton sessions'
For some, picking up a sport began as a way to unwind, but became a gateway to meaningful connections. Mrinal Pathak, a media professional, says, 'Wherever I've stayed for higher studies and for work, I've always formed healthy and strong connections through badminton sessions.
As a kid, the sport helped me come out of my shell as an introvert. Even now, I sometimes struggle socially — but never on a court, so it helps me build connections.

'Cross-organisation friendships are brewing with sports' (Location: Games Forest, Gurgaon)
Saniya Santhosh, a business analyst, shares her experience, 'I started playing badminton on the weekends to take a break after a hectic work week. While the people who show up on these games are a mix of amateurs and beginners, I've found partners whose timings and skills levelled with mine.
What started off as a way to let off steam and remain fit, ended up becoming bonding sessions, leading to three of them becoming my buddies even off the court.
Now, we watch movies together, catch up over coffee, and also visit each other's houses on special occasions.'

'Cross organisation friendships are brewing with sports'
Multi-sport facilities are facilitating people's need to embrace IRL connections. A facility manager at a Gurgaon venue shares, 'Fridays and Saturdays are the busiest.
Cross-organisation friendships are also brewing at our sporting facility. Many of them, who started playing together, chill at the cafe to enjoy a post-game chai.' Nirvana Escapes founder Divish Manuja, who organises weekend sporting events in collaboration with sports venues, shares that these events go beyond fitness.
'These events have become a platform for people to break away from digital distractions and form real-world connections. Many participants have found close friends, workout buddies, and even creative collaborators through these meetups. Sport has this unique ability to dissolve barriers – be it age, profession, or language – and these hangouts are a testament to that," he says.

A'bad-G'nagar hospitality sector getting bigger
1 2 A hmedabad: The hospitality scene is getting bigger in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar with the twin cities set to add 1,200-plus room keys in five new upcoming premium hotel projects. Currently, the city has at least 6,500 keys in the five-star hotel category. On Thursday, Ahmedabad realty firm AG Group signed a contract with InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) for a 150-key Holiday Inn hotel along the New Science City area. This mixed-use project spread over 1.6 million sq ft comprises residential towers and the hotel, with AG Group committing an investment of Rs 200 crore for the hotel alone. Gandhinagar-based Kavyaratna Group too recently signed a contract with Hyatt Hotels Corporation for a new property in GIFT City. Sources familiar with the development confirmed that the hospitality chain is slated to come up with another property in Sanand Industrial Estate. From global chains expanding their presence to strategic locations being tapped for business and leisure travellers, the influx signals growing investor confidence in Gujarat's economic hub. Vikram Bharwad, director of AG Group, said, "We will build a 1.25 lakh sq ft hotel, which will be managed by IHG. Construction will be completed by 2028. We also plan to launch at least five more hotels and resorts in various parts of the country in the years to come." "Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar and GIFT City are developing as attractive hubs for businesses and industrial growth. That apart, being home to the world's largest cricket stadium at Motera, Ahmedabad has hosted iconic tournaments like the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, British rock band Coldplay's live concert, and Indian Premier League (IPL) matches. The city's stature is rising not just as an industrial and business district but also as a cultural, sports, and events hub, which is bound to drive travellers from across the globe to this city. As a result, hospitality investments are on the rise in this region," said Narendra Somani, president, Hotels and Restaurants' Association (HRA) – Gujarat. IHG is also planning more expansions in the region. Sandip Jain, MD, IHG Group, said, "This will be the third hotel by IHG Hotels and Resorts in Ahmedabad. The city has seen growing demand from guests and corporates with increasing business activities and growing income. We currently have around 240 rooms in two hotel brands in the city, and this contract will add around 150 rooms." Sources confirmed that Marriott International's luxury hotel brand, St Regis, is also likely to come up along Sabarmati Riverfront's west bank. TOI had reported that Marriott International is in talks to set up a hotel under its brand JW Marriott at the Adani Shantigram campus on SG Road. The American hospitality major's existing property in the Ramdevnagar area of Ahmedabad is all set for a revamp and rebranding as Le Meridien. SK Patel, chairman of Kavyaratna Group, said, "We are developing a 210-room hotel, spread over 2.40 lakh sq ft with an investment of around Rs 450 crore. GIFT City is emerging as a global financial hub, offering good opportunities for the hospitality sector." Adani Group is also in advanced talks to develop Aerocity at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) airport in Ahmedabad, which will house hotels, a convention centre, and retail spaces.

Content creator goes viral for unique 'get ready with me' video on Delhi Metro
Delhi-based content creator Seikhohao Haokip, known as @ has become an internet sensation by filming his morning beauty routine on the Delhi Metro's Yellow Line. The viral video, showcasing his effortless application of blush, lip balm, and hair gel, has garnered millions of views and transformed him into a beloved on-the-go beauty guru. What happens when you swap your bathroom mirror for a metro window and your vanity for a commuter's seat? You might just become the internet's newest beauty icon. That's exactly what happened to Delhi-based content creator Seikhohao Haokip, better known online as @ - who turned heads (and algorithms) by filming his morning glow-up on a moving Yellow Line train of the Delhi Metro. The now-viral video shows Ryan casually applying blush, lip balm, and hair gel in a "Get Ready With Me" (GRWM) moment that looks more like a Vogue Beauty Secrets episode than a routine subway ride. With over 2.6 million views, 83,000+ likes, and 1,400+ comments, the clip has launched Ryan from regular office-goer to internet's favourite on-the-go beauty guru. In the video, Ryan starts with a dewy blush dabbed across his cheeks and nose, followed by a slick of tinted lip balm and a quick style-up with lightweight hair gel. After a swift 'fit check, the scene cuts to him riding an auto rickshaw on his way to work. It's minimal, effective, and quietly confident, exactly the kind of content Gen Z and millennials are loving. And love it they did. The comments section is a goldmine of fan reactions, from 'Bro's skin is literally glowing' to 'Corporate skincare king!' Beauty influencers like Sahira Taneja and Diipa Büller-Khosla chimed in with heart emojis and fire reactions. But it's the background character, a man watching with fascination that became an unexpected star. Comments like 'The dude in pink wants in on the glow' and 'He's falling for you, bro' flooded the feed. In a world where skincare is now mainstream and self-care isn't gendered, Ryan's impromptu GRWM stands as a sweet, slightly cheeky reminder: glow wherever you are, even if it's on public transport. French Open: Jannik Sinner drops just 3 games to extend Grand Slam unbeaten run to 17 matches
PARIS: When Jannik Sinner 's opponent in the French Open 's third round finally won a single game Saturday, the Court Suzanne-Lenglen crowd responded with a standing ovation. Sinner was simply too good on this day, extending his Grand Slam winning streak to 17 matches and looking very much like the No. 1-ranked man. Sinner dominated Jiri Lehecka 6-0, 6-1, 6-2 in just 1 hour, 34 minutes, the quickest men's match at Roland-Garros this year and, measured by games lost, the most lopsided victory at a major tournament of Sinner's career. "We try to improve," Sinner said. "Today, I don't think there are many things I can improve." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Can say that again. Check out some of the numbers: Sinner delivered 31 winners and made only nine unforced errors. He accumulated 18 break points, converting seven, and faced just one, which he saved. Live Events The first 11 games went Sinner's way. When Sinner missed a return wide, making the score 6-0, 5-1 after 55 minutes of action, Lehecka raised his arm and pumped his fist in a bit of sarcastic celebration. The fans went wild, rising out of their seats and clapping and shouting, eliciting a smile from Lehecka. Make no mistake, though. Lehecka is no also-ran. The 23-year-old from the Czech Republic is ranked 34th and has been a Grand Slam quarterfinalist. But he was completely overmatched by Sinner, who has won the past two major championships - at the U.S. Open in September and the Australian Open in January - and is now the owner of an unbeaten run at the sport's most important tournaments that's been surpassed this century only by a trio of guys by the names of Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Sinner's bid for a first French Open title, and fourth Slam trophy overall, will continue Monday, when he'll face No. 17 Andrey Rublev for a quarterfinal berth. Rublev advanced when his opponent, No. 14 Arthur Fils, withdrew from the tournament because a stress fracture in his lower back. What else happened at the French Open on Saturday? Jessica Pegula , the No. 3-seeded American who was the runner-up at the U.S. Open, came back to eliminate 2019 French Open finalist and 2023 Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 and reach the fourth round. No. 6 Mirra Andreeva, an 18-year-old Russian who reached the semifinals a year ago, advanced to a fourth-round showdown against No. 17 Daria Kasatkina. American qualifier Ethan Quinn, the 2023 NCAA champion for the University of Georgia, played his second consecutive five-setter and was beaten by Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands 4-6, 6-1, 6-7 (2), 6-1, 6-4. Griekspoor came into the day 0-4 in third-round matches at majors. Who is on the schedule at Roland-Garros on Sunday? No. 1-ranked Aryna Sabalenka and the two defending champions, Iga Swiatek and Carlos Alcaraz , are all scheduled to appear in the fourth round Sunday. There are three American men in Week 2 in Paris for the first time since 1995, and all are in action: No. 12 Tommy Paul, No. 13 Ben Shelton and No. 15 Frances Tiafoe. Shelton faces Alcaraz, Paul goes up against No. 25 Alexei Popyrin, and Tiafoe meets Daniel Altmaier.
