Man detained after traffic dispute turns violent
KLANG: A traffic dispute escalated, resulting in the detention of a man with four prior cases in his police record by the South Klang district police early on Sunday (April 27) morning.
South Klang police chief Asst Comm Ramli Kasa said a confrontation occurred between the victim and the 37-year-old suspect the night before at about 10pm.
'We received an emergency call from the public reporting a fight between a motorcyclist and a motorist,' said ACP Ramli.
He added the motorcyclist, a 50-year-old man, was injured after being intentionally run over by the car driver.
ACP Ramli said the incident happened on Jalan Dato Yusof Shahbudin 28, Bandar Sentosa, as the motorcyclist was avoiding uneven road patches.
The car driver assumed the motorcyclist was riding irresponsibly, which could cause accidents, he added.
'The suspect honked at the victim, who was dissatisfied and chased the car, leading to an argument. During the argument, the victim hit the front windscreen with his helmet, cracking the glass,' said ACP Ramli.
Following this, the car driver ran over the motorcyclist, dragging him under the car.
The suspect left the scene while the victim went to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Klang for treatment, said ACP Ramli.
'The victim injured both his legs, and his left shoulder was dislocated. The victim is in a stable condition and still receiving treatment,' he added.
The suspect has been detained by police and remanded for four days for investigation under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, which carries a 20-year jail term if found guilty.
Investigations also revealed he had four previous cases in his police record.
ACP Ramli advised the public not to share the video of the incident to prevent any untoward events.
He urged those with information about the incident to visit the nearest police station or contact South Klang police at 03-33762222.
