
Tata Electronics, BEL sign MoU: Pact on indigenous electronics, semiconductor solutions; plan to share resources and knowledge
Tata Electronics signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) to ramp up the development of indigenous semiconductor and electronics solutions.
The agreement, signed on 5 June 2025 at Bombay House in Mumbai, brought together Tata Electronics and BEL to address India's growing demand, PTI reported.
The pact was signed by Randhir Thakur, CEO and managing director of Tata Electronics, and Manoj Jain, chairman and managing director of BEL.
BEL, a Navratna public sector undertaking under the ministry of defence, is a key player in the design and manufacture of defence electronics.
The partnership is expected to help BEL enhance its product range by tapping into Tata Electronics' semiconductor design and manufacturing expertise.
As part of the collaboration, the companies will make joint efforts in semiconductor fabrication (fab), outsourced semiconductor assembly and testing (OSAT), and design services. The focus areas include microcontrollers (MCUs), systems-on-chip (SoCs), monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMICs), and other processors tailored to BEL's current and future requirements.
The two companies also plan to share best practices, technical knowledge, and resources to develop efficient manufacturing solutions for BEL's products.

Alternate data sources, frontier technologies critical for policy making: Prof Ajay Sood
Alternate data sources and frontier technologies are increasingly becoming critical for policy making, according to Professor Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Advisor to the government, who emphasised the need for best policy which blends both traditional and alternative data sources. These high frequency indicators are more dynamic and offer timely insights, enabling policies to be more agile and responsive, he said during an event here, organised by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), in collaboration with NITI Aayog and the World Bank. 'While traditional data sources reflect where we have been, the alternate data sources indicate where we are heading. He added that though alternate data sources provide real time information at a much granular level, they cannot replace tradition data sources,' said Professor Sood. The event was attended by over 450 participants from central ministries, state governments, international organisations including the World Bank, academic and research institutions, and private sector entities. Professor Sood further highlighted various use cases where alternate data sources have been effectively used. He stressed on the need for collaboration between government, academia, researchers, industry and international organizations for effective use of new technologies. Professor Sood also called for ethical deployment of AI and said that data security and privacy concerns cannot be compromised. Further, he asserted that the development of techno-legal framework for Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) is a gift of India to the world. Professor Abhay Karandikar, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, said the policy-making process is a complex exercise which involve gathering of data, consultation with stakeholders and drawing insights. 'AI/ML has facilitated timely processing of data for designing actionable policies. In this age and time, challenge is not to collect data but how to make sense of the data. The real challenge lies in addressing issues relating to data privacy, data security, regulatory framework, and institutional readiness,' he noted. Dr Saurabh Garg, Secretary, MoSPI, emphasised on the need of fostering collaboration with various stakeholders for developing a robust statistical system to address the data needs for policy making. He expected that in next 3-6 months, MoSPI will be able to implement some of the use cases that have been identified to harness alternate data sources and the application of frontier technologies.

Advt Advt The Andhra Pradesh govt on Friday signed an MoU with the world's largest AI chip maker, NVIDIA, for the establishment of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) University in Amaravati. The MoU aims at infrastructure development, startup acceleration, skilling, and encouraging part of this agreement, NVIDIA will provide skill training to 10,000 students across the state in the next two years. The chip maker will also offer curriculum guidance and technical training resources to support AI education and capacity building in engineering colleges across the addition to workforce development, NVIDIA will support the identification and establishment of AI research centres that will address pressing technological challenges and develop transformative solutions across sectors."This partnership with NVIDIA marks a decisive step in our vision to position Andhra Pradesh as a national leader in artificial intelligence. By equipping 10,000 students with cutting-edge AI skills and supporting our startup ecosystem, we are laying the foundation for a future-ready economy driven by innovation, research, and entrepreneurship," said Nara Lokesh, minister for ITE&C and collaboration will further extend to the development of cutting-edge computational infrastructure required for the proposed AI University. Google Gemini now supports scheduled actions, introduces new swipe gesture for Live
Google was one of the few companies that jumped on the AI bandwagon early on, but the tech giant still seems to be playing catch-up with startups like OpenAI. Earlier this year, in January, the Sam Altman-led company introduced a new feature that enabled users to schedule tasks in ChatGPT to run automated prompts. Now, in a blog post, Google has announced that it is bringing 'Scheduled Actions' to Gemini. Announced at this year's I/O, Google says the new functionality is 'designed to proactively handle your tasks.' Similar to ChatGPT's schedule tasks, Gemini users will now be able to streamline their routine tasks and even get personalised updates from the AI chatbot. The tech giant says users can now ask Gemini to do things like completing a task at a specified time, or changing the prompt you are already using for a recurring task. Moreover, Gemini can now show you a summary of your calendar, unread emails, and fetch information and give updates about your favourite sports team on the go. However, the scheduled actions feature is limited to users with a Google AI Pro or Ultra subscription and eligible Google Workspace business and education plans. Also, it is still unclear if Gemini, like ChatGPT, has limited scheduled action to ten active tasks and if they can pause or delete an old task if they hit the limit. Google also said that Gemini will soon get an 'upgraded preview' of Gemini 2.5 Pro. The new large language model builds on the company's recently unveiled 2.5 Pro model, which is better than its predecessors in coding. The company is also making it easier for users to access Gemini Live. Instead of tapping on the dedicated Gemini Live action from the bottom of the screen, you can now simply swipe from the right side of the screen to the left to open Gemini Live.
