Mia Goth Joins Ryan Gosling in Shawn Levy's STAR WARS: STARFIGHTER — GeekTyrant

Mia Goth is officially joining the Star Wars universe. The actress known for her wild, intense performances in Pearl , Infinity Pool , and MaXXXine , is now co-starring with Ryan Gosling in Star Wars: Starfighter , the new standalone film from director Shawn Levy. There's no word yet on who Goth is playing, but her casting immediately adds some interesting energy to the project. I assume she will be playing the villain, a role that was previously offered to Mikey Madison and Jodie Comer. Starfighter is set about five years after The Rise of Skywalker, picking up the galaxy's story after the Skywalker saga ended. The film will introduce a fresh set of characters and carve out new territory in the canon. The story revolves around a "a 15-year-old boy on a mission with his uncle, played by Ryan Gosling. They're being pursued by a duo of villains—one male, one female.' At this year's Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and chief creative officer Dave Filoni officially announced the project, setting the stage for a new theatrical era of Star Wars . The film is expected to begin shooting this fall and is locked in for a May 28, 2027 release. Levy Previously said of the film: 'This is a standalone. It's not a prequel, not sequel. It's a new adventure. It's set in a period of time that we haven't seen explored yet.' Behind the scenes, Jonathan Tropper is writing the script. Tropper has a long creative history with Levy, having written The Adam Project and This Is Where I Leave You , and he's also the creator of Apple TV+'s Your Friends & Neighbors . This marks another unexpected pivot in Goth's career, which is full of very wild and interesting choices. She'll soon be seen in Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein , sharing the screen with Jacob Elordi and Oscar Isaac, and is also set for Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey alongside an ensemble that includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, and Robert Pattinson. I'm really curious to see how this Star Wars: Starfighter movie turns out. Source: Variety

Amazon Layoffs Impact Books Division: Goodreads, Kindle

Tech job cuts have impacted over 62,000 workers so far this year, according to tracker Now Amazon is laying off workers in its books business, per a leaked internal email obtained by Business Insider earlier this week. "Today, we are taking the very difficult step of eliminating some roles on your team," a senior Amazon manager stated in the email. "Unfortunately, your role has been eliminated." The email informed impacted employees that they would receive full pay and benefits for the next 60 days, or 90 days for employees who reside in New York or New Jersey, plus additional severance. Related: Amazon CEO Andy Jassy Says the 'Way to Get Ahead' at Amazon Isn't By Overseeing a 'Giant Team and Fiefdom' The cuts, which Reuters reported affected fewer than 100 employees, were intended to improve efficiency. The reductions affected employees working on Amazon's Goodreads review site as well as its Kindle division. Amazon acquired Goodreads in 2013 for $150 million. "As part of our ongoing work to make our teams and programs operate more efficiently, and to better align with our business roadmap, we've made the difficult decision to eliminate a small number of roles within the Books organization," an Amazon spokesperson stated, per Reuters. began as an online bookstore in the early 1990s when the company sold its first book online: Douglas Hofstadter's Fluid Concepts and Creative Analogies: Computer Models of the Fundamental Mechanisms of Thought. Within its first month of launch, Amazon had sold books to customers in all U.S. states and 45 countries. In the first 10 months of 2022, Amazon sold $16.9 billion worth of books globally. Now, Amazon generates about $28 billion annually from global book sales and offers more than 20 million titles in the U.S. alone. Amazon controls half or more of the U.S. market for print book sales and at least 75% of ebook sales. Amazon has let go of roughly 27,000 employees since the beginning of 2022 to cut costs. The company announced last month that it would cut 100 jobs in its devices and services department, which includes Ring doorbells and the Alexa voice assistant. In January, the retail giant made dozens of job cuts in its communications and sustainability departments.

Jeff Bezos Let Customers Cancel Their Own Amazon Orders And It Paid Off Big: 'If You Give People More Control...Maybe They'll Order More'

In a 2002 MIT presentation, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) founder Jeff Bezos discussed the surprising success of allowing customers to cancel their own orders. What Happened: During the talk, Bezos said that to foster innovation, companies need to make experiments affordable. If experiments are expensive, only a few will be able to run them, limiting the potential for innovation. He gave the example of how Amazon uses A/B testing (a way of comparing two versions of something to see which performs better) as a low-cost way to experiment with new ideas like personalization algorithms. This helps test ideas without huge investments. Trending: Maker of the $60,000 foldable home has 3 factory buildings, 600+ houses built, and big plans to solve housing — The Amazon founder also pointed out that predicting how consumers will behave is tough and can often lead to wasted effort. Rather than debating and speculating, it's more effective to try something and observe the outcome. Amazon did this with features like self-service tools for customers to cancel orders. Despite internal concerns, Bezos defended the move, saying, "If you give people more control over their environment... maybe they'll order more." This bold decision was based on the theory that empowering customers would build trust and drive increased sales. "We couldn't really do a low-cost experiment... so we just went ahead and built it," Bezos explained. Why It's Important: Amazon currently has a market cap of $2.2 trillion, making it the fourth most valuable company in the world. Last month, Amazon reported first-quarter net sales of $155.7 billion, marking a 9% year-over-year increase and surpassing the Street consensus estimate of $155.04 billion. Over the past five years, Amazon shares have gained 66.92%, though they remain down 5.90% year-to-date, according to Benzinga Pro. Amazon currently holds a consensus price target of $248.80 based on the ratings of 41 analysts. The highest target, $305, was issued by Tigress Financial on May 6, 2025, while the lowest, $195, came from Raymond James on April 21, 2025. The three latest analyst ratings by JP Morgan, BofA Securities and Tigress Financial gave it an average price target of $264.33, suggesting a potential upside of 27.64%.
