Huntsville Housing Authority discusses security upgrades at LR Patton community
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — A housing complex in Huntsville says it may be implementing a curfew, after a rise in gun violence. This comes after two men were killed in two separate shootings in the community last week.
Both shootings took place at the LR Patton community off of Binford Drive in Huntsville. The complex is owned by the Huntsville Housing Authority.

The Huntsville Housing Authority first announced some enhanced security measures in a statement on Monday.
On Tuesday, News 19 sat down with Executive Director Antonio McGinnis, who said the measures are in an effort to 'keep out all of the bad seeds.'
'It's very important to me that we make sure these neighborhoods are safe,' he told News 19.
According to Huntsville Police, the first deadly shooting happened on May 25th, claiming the life of 34-year-old Alexander Dominique Dennis Sr.

HPD said the second shooting happened in the early morning hours of May 30th. The Huntsville Police Department identified 21-year-old Tyrek Keshun Norris, as the victim in that shooting.
HPD said it does not believe the two shootings have any connection.
In the wake of these two deadly shootings in less than one week, McGinnis said it's time to get serious about security.
'We've already increased police presence in the neighborhood' he said. In addition to increased HPD patrols on all shifts, the Huntsville Housing Authority said it's working on a 'comprehensive review' of current security measures.
That includes lighting, security cameras, and access points.
McGinnis told News 19 that the Housing Authority is also working on implementing a 'temporary curfew' to limit late-night activity.
However, McGinnis said they'll only be sharing specific information about that curfew with residents.
'The whole goal is to make sure that those individuals who don't necessarily live in the community aren't in the community' He said. 'So we don't want to put it out to the community, but we do want to make sure that our residents know all of the details'.
'I think that will help eliminate a lot of the problems that are going on' he added.
McGinnis said there are 110 units in the LR Patton Complex. He estimated that it has around 200 residents.
He said it is also the responsibility of the residents to be mindful of their guests and to adhere to community guidelines.
'We want to encourage them [residents] not to have individuals in the community that don't belong in the community at this time' he said.
'I think that will help eliminate part of the problems that are going on, because what we found out is that most of the individuals who have been causing problems don't necessarily live in the community' McGinnis told News 19.
He said that, so far, the Housing Authority has mostly heard positive feedback about the changes. However, 'if a person doesn't agree, I can understand, but my concern is more the safety and wellbeing of those residents.'

The 24-year-old woman who was driving the car remained at the scene and is assisting police with their enquiries. No arrests have been made. Wesley Chapel family says dog survived alligator attack in their backyard
TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A family in Wesley Chapel is traumatized after their rescue dog was attacked by an alligator in their backyard. A video shows Zeus, a German Shepherd, standing on a leash with a gator lurking just beyond the fence, a chilling moment the family now views as a warning. 'We have a doggy door, and Zeus will go in and out of it whenever he wants,' said Susan Alkhatib. While News Channel 8 was interviewing the family, a gator emerged from the water again before slipping back in. 'I have a 7-year-old sister,' said one family member. 'And I just think, if she was at the fence, would he have done the same thing to her?' Zeus miraculously survived the attack. He suffered a fractured and displaced jaw, along with multiple puncture wounds around his neck. 'The vet said it looked like his whole head was in the gator's mouth,' said Alkhatib. 'Even he said, 'I don't know how he survived.'' 'I honestly can't believe he is alive,' Alkhatib said. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has sent out trappers, but so far, they have not been able to capture the gator. Zeus is now recovering from several surgeries. 21-Year-Old Woman Found Dead in ‘Wooded Area' amid Fears of a New England Serial Killer
The body of Adriana Suazo was found in a wooded area in the Norfolk District, in Milton, Mass., on Sunday, June 1 The 21-year-old's death comes after several women have been found dead in the New England region since March, sparking fears of a serial killer in the region Suazo's cause of death is being investigated by the Chief Medical Examiner, according to the Norfolk District Attorney's OfficeSpeculation that a serial killer is operating in New England has been reignited following the discovery of a woman's body in Massachusetts. At around 11:45 a.m. local time on Sunday, June 1, the body of 21-year-old Adriana Suazo was found 'in a wooded area' by a passerby near a home on 143 Central Avenue, Norfolk District, in Milton, Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey announced in a press release. Suazo's body showed 'no obvious signs of trauma.' The Chief Medical Examiner is investigating the cause of her death. Family members said they weren't sure why Suazo — who grew up in Boston — had been in Milton at the time, the Boston Globe reported. One of her sisters allegedly said she'd last spoken to Suazo on May 29. The discovery of Suazo's body marks the 13th unexplained death in remote or wooded areas in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Maine since March, sparking concerns of a possible serial killer on the loose in the region, Fox News reported. In April, the remains of six people were found in towns close to one another in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. The victims included Paige Fannon, 35, who was found in the Norwalk River on March 6, Denise Leary, 59, who was found in New Haven on March 21 and Michele Romano, 56, five days later, according to police. Police denied a single suspect in the killings, despite speculation about a serial killer in the area at the time. 'This investigation is in the early stages, remains active and ongoing, and there is no information at this time suggesting any connection to similar remains discoveries actively under investigation by CSP or other CT law enforcement agencies," the Connecticut State Police told PEOPLE in a statement at the time. The police added that 'there is no known threat to the public at this time.' A GoFundMe page set up by Suazo's sister, Mel Loves, described her as 'a firecracker, full of life, laughter, and fierce love' and said her death has been 'heartbreaking.' 'Losing her so suddenly has shattered our world,' the description on the page read. 'My family is completely heartbroken, trying to navigate this pain while also doing everything we can to give Adriana the proper burial she deserves—a sendoff that honors the vibrant, loving, and unforgettable person she was.'
