Bahraini Minister of Information highlights evolving media ties with UAE
Dr. Ramzan bin Abdulla Al Noaimi, Minister of Information of the Kingdom of Bahrain, affirmed the ongoing and deepening media cooperation between the UAE and Bahrain, underpinned by dynamic partnerships that reflect the strength of fraternal ties between the two nations.
In statements to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) on the sidelines of the second day of the Arab Media Summit 2025 in Dubai, Al Noaimi said that continued engagement between media officials in both countries contributes to strengthening cooperation and advancing joint media initiatives. He also expressed anticipation for the announcement of new collaborative projects.
He revealed that Bahrain is preparing to launch several media initiatives, including the second edition of the Al Dana Drama Award, scheduled for mid-next month, which will spotlight outstanding Gulf drama productions. He noted the significant progress witnessed in drama production across the region.
Al Noaimi highlighted the growth of Emirati drama in recent years, which has become evident through the high quality of works participating in both Gulf and Arab festivals, including Danat. This, he said, reinforces the UAE's status as a prominent hub for artistic and media production.
Regarding the Arab Media Summit, the minister said the event provides a vital platform that brings together leading media professionals and decision-makers from across the region to enhance Arab media integration and respond to digital transformation trends. He emphasised Bahrain's keenness to participate actively in events hosted by the UAE, recognising their substantial contribution to enriching dialogue and discourse.

This year, the occasion is especially significant for Muslims, as it coincides with Friday (Jumuah) prayers, meaning both the Eid and Jumuah prayers will be held on the same day, each accompanied by a sermon. The UAE Fatwa Council recently clarified that Eid and Jumuah prayers will be observed separately and at their respective times. What happens on Eid day? On Eid morning, Muslims dress in their finest clothes and head to mosques or large open spaces called musallahs shortly after sunrise to perform the Eid prayer. Prayer areas typically open from the Fajr (dawn) prayer, with the Eid takbir (chants glorifying God) echoing from mosques until the start of the special prayer. After the prayer, the Imam delivers a sermon, and the festivities begin — often starting with warm embraces among family and friends. A key tradition of Eid Al Adha is the sacrifice of livestock, commemorating Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. UAE Team Emirates-EXG rider Isaac del Toro insisted he is proud of his efforts at the Giro d'Italia despite being beaten to the title by British rider Simon Yates. The Mexican went into Saturday's penultimate Stage 20 in pole position to become UAE Team Emirates second consecutive winner of the Grand Tour race, following in the slipstream of Tadej Pogacar last year. But Briton's Simon Yates, who started the day third in the general classification 81 seconds behind the leader, produced a magnificent ride on the Colle delle Finestre – the highest point of this year's race – to overhaul second-place Richard Carapaz and Del Toro in the standings. The Visma-Lease A Bike rider finished the stage almost four minutes clear of Del Toro with the Giro crown all but in the bag going into Sunday's ceremonial finale around Rome. Del Toro had snatched the overall lead on Stage 9 when he took charge of the pink jersey which he kept a tight hold on for 10 more stages. But it was not to be for the 21-year-old who came agonisingly close to victory in what was only his second Grand Tour race after last year's Vuelta a Espagna. 'Obviously I am super happy to finish second, I need to be mature with this and, of course, a lot of people are surprised that I can be at this level now,' said Del Toro, whose victory on Stage 17 was his first on a Grand Tour. 'For my team, it's not a big surprise, it's just a question of time. I want to believe it, this is the main problem for me personally, but this week I show I can be a top rider and top contender and I cannot be more proud and happy, to be honest. 'For sure it's always disappointing to lose the leader's jersey, but actually as a team we cannot be more together and more happy about the performance that we did. We cannot manage a victory, but … it's cycling and that's why we love it. 'I was close, and this is a thing, but at the end I didn't win,' added Del Toro. 'I will just keep working and I will come back for sure. 'You need to be a great winner, you need to be a great loser, and I think I am a good loser, and chapeau for them. Congrats.' It was a story of redemption for Yates as he sobbed uncontrollably after crossing the finish lines in third place behind stage winner Chris Harper and second place Alessandro Verre. 'When the route was released I always had in the back of my mind to try to do something here and close the chapter, let's say,' said Yates on Saturday. 'I maybe look relaxed but I also had doubts this morning, if I could really do something, but the guys they encouraged me and believed in me, so yeah, thanks to them.' As for Del Toro, he remained upbeat after what has been a breakthrough performance from a young rider. 'My disappointment is split 50-50, half for me and half for the team. They deserved the win,' he said. 'I'm happy in one sense becaus e I showed that I can compete in a Grand Tour and that I'm not lacking anything. Few people thought I could do what I've done before this Giro. I had the legs to win a Grand Tour, I went close to victory. 'I respect the big riders but if I look at all my performances in this Giro, I can start to think I can win a Grand Tour. 'I'll sleep well tonight because I've matured and I've realised that this is also cycling. I'm not smiling because I'm second. But it's still a great result.'

Sharjah fire: Cooling operations underway after massive blaze in Al Hamriyah
Cooling operations are currently underway at Al Hamriyah Port in Sharjah, following a massive fire that took 24 hours to bring under control. The fire broke out at 6.10 am on Saturday and was fully contained by 6.25am on Sunday morning, according to officials. The cooling process aims to prevent any potential flare-ups; once the area is declared safe, forensic and technical teams will be allowed to enter the site and begin investigations into the cause of the fire. Results of the investigations will be announced after all technical assessments. The fire, described as one of the largest industrial blazes in the emirate in recent years, was caused by the ignition of highly flammable petrochemical materials. The intensity of the flames and smoke was such that they could be seen from neighbouring emirates. Authorities responded swiftly, activating a coordinated emergency response that involved local and federal entities. Sharjah Civil Defence deployed advanced firefighting equipment including foam tankers and high-capacity water pumps. The Sharjah Civil Aviation Authority and the Sharjah International Airport Authority provided aerial surveillance using helicopters and air jets to assess the spread and intensity of the fire. Municipal teams from Sharjah and Al Hamriyah supported the operation by supplying water tankers and logistical support. Sharjah Police cordoned off the surrounding areas, evacuated nearby buildings, and managed traffic to ensure public safety. Major General Abdullah Mubarak bin Amer, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police and Chairman of the Local Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Team, praised the professionalism of the teams involved. 'The rapid response, high-level coordination, and use of specialised equipment played a vital role in bringing the situation under control without casualties,' he said. 'What we witnessed was an integrated national effort.' Key support also came from the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defence, National Guard, National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA), and the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc), all of whom contributed equipment, personnel, and technical expertise.
