Police have named the suspect in the Liverpool FC trophy parade crash as Paul Doyle, with the 53-year-old set to appear in court tomorrow (Friday, May 30).
Doyle, who is from the West Derby area of Liverpool, has been charged with two counts of unlawful and malicious wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, two counts of causing unlawful and malicious grievous bodily harm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, two counts of attempted unlawful and malicious grievous bodily harm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and one count of dangerous driving.

He has been remanded in custody and will appear at Liverpool Magistrates' Court tomorrow morning.

Seventy-nine people were injured when a car was driven into crowds on Water Street in Liverpool city centre just after 6pm on Monday evening, following Liverpool FC's Premier League victory parade through the city.
Merseyside Police confirmed the age of the victims ranged from nine to 78 and said they were all understood to be British.
Seven people are still recovering in hospital, the force added.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday evening, Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims said: "I want to provide an update to you all during what has been a very challenging week. As always, our thoughts remain with all those injured and affected by the appalling incident that took place during the Liverpool Football Club Parade on Monday.
"As you have heard from our CPS colleagues, the man arrested by Merseyside Police following the incident on Water Street has now been charged with seven serious offences.
"Paul Desmond Sanders Doyle, 53 years, of Burghill Road, West Derby, has this afternoon been charged with two counts of unlawful and malicious wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm; two counts of causing unlawful and malicious grievous bodily harm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm; two counts of attempted unlawful and malicious grievous bodily harm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, all contrary to Section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861. He has been charged with one count of dangerous driving contrary to Section 2 of the Road Traffic Act 1988.

"Doyle has been remanded into custody and will appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court in the morning."
Assistant Chief Constable Sims continued: "I fully understand how this incident has left us all shocked and saddened, and I know many will continue to have concerns and questions.
"Our detectives are working tirelessly, with diligence and professionalism, to seek the answers to all those questions. When we are able to, we will provide further information.

"Merseyside Police is determined to gather as much evidence as possible to ensure that every avenue is explored.
"Now that Paul Doyle has been charged, we ask that the judicial process be allowed to continue without any speculation online or elsewhere that could impede the pursuit of justice for all those affected.
"A total of 79 people who were injured continue to be in contact with our officers and staff, and seven people remain in hospital, receiving the expert care of our NHS colleagues. I hope that all of those who were injured, or witnessed this terrible incident are able - given time - to heal and recover.

"This continues to be a large and complex investigation and detectives are reviewing a huge volume of CCTV and mobile phone footage submitted by the public and businesses, as well as footage from our own body worn cameras and dashcams," she added.
"We are extremely grateful for the ongoing cooperation of the public who have, and continue to, share their footage and witness accounts with detectives. Their input is vital to our ongoing enquiries.
"I would encourage anyone who has not yet contacted police who may have relevant information to please come forward and contact us. Information, including video footage, can be passed to us via the Major Incident Police Portal, details of which are available on our Merseyside Police website. As always, my thoughts remain with victims and everyone impacted."

Police believe the car which struck pedestrians was able to follow an ambulance crew attending to someone suffering a heart attack after a road block was temporarily lifted.
A force spokesman said there was a partial closure in place on Dale Street – which leads into Water Street – between North John Street and Exchange Street.
Traffic was filtered down Exchange Street to stop vehicles getting onto Water Street and a flatbed truck and traffic cones were used as a barrier, the spokesman said.

A fundraising campaign set up for those affected has raised more than £30,000, including a £10,000 donation from the Jamie Carragher 23 Foundation, the former Liverpool player's charity.

LA protests turn violent after Trump deploys National Guard troops

Tear gas and flash bangs were used to control the crowd, as ITV News' Daniel Rosney reports Tensions have escalated in Los Angeles as thousands of protesters clashed with police, after President Donald Trump deployed National Guard troops as part of his latest immigration crackdown. Demonstrators set fire to self-driving cars, blocked motorways and hurled chunks of concrete and electric scooters at police officers, who responded with tear gas and rubber bullets. Some were detained on Sunday evening, as police arrested those refusing to disperse. Sunday marked the third and most intense day of protests against Trump's immigration policy in the region. 'Some of the protesters came and helped me, and they ended up carrying me, and I noticed that there was blood pouring down my leg.' The arrival of around 2,000 National Guard troops came after two days of protests, which began on Friday, when federal agents arrested a number of immigrants in the city. More than 100 immigrant arrests were made last week in Los Angeles, according to federal authorities. The Guard is a US military reserve force often mobilised in domestic emergencies, answering to both state governors and the president. It was deployed to protect LA's federal buildings, including the downtown detention centre where protesters concentrated. Troops stood carrying long guns and riot shields on Sunday morning, as protesters shouted 'shame' and 'go home'. After some demonstrators came close to them, another set of uniformed officers advanced on the group, shooting smoke-filled canisters into the street. Minutes later, the Los Angeles Police Department fired rounds of crowd-control munitions to disperse the protesters, who they said were assembled unlawfully. Much of the group then moved to block traffic on the 101 freeway until police cleared them by the late afternoon. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said deploying the troops was 'essential to halting and reversing the invasion of illegal criminals into the United States'. Democratic Governor of California Gavin Newsom requested that Trump remove the guard members in a letter on Sunday afternoon, calling their deployment a breach of state sovereignty. – Inciting and provoking violence – Creating mass chaos – Militarizing cities – Arresting opponents These are the acts of a dictator, not a President. — Gavin Newsom (@GavinNewsom) June 8, 2025 In a post on social media platform X, Newsom launched a series of criticisms of the president, calling him a 'dictator' and accusing him of inciting violence. As he prepared to board Air Force One in New Jersey on Sunday, Trump told reporters that there were 'violent people' in Los Angeles, adding: 'They're not gonna get away with it.' UK teen jailed in Dubai for holiday romance pleads with Sheikh to let him go

Marcus. who was on holiday with his family, had a fling with a 17-year-old girl from the UK - and has been jailed A UK teenager locked up in Dubai for having a holiday romance with a 17-year-old girl - also from the UK - has begged for mercy. Marcus Fakana has formally submitted a plea for clemency to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai. The 19-year-old was sentenced to one year in prison after he struck up a romantic relationship with a 17-year-old British girl. Both his family and the girl's family were on holiday at the time. ‌ Marcus, who was 18 when the relationship began, is currently being held in Al Awir Prison, where he has spent several months in isolating and harsh conditions. He has now placed his hopes on a humanitarian pardon from Dubai's leadership. ‌ 'This has been the most traumatic and life-altering experience imaginable for Marcus,' said Radha Stirling, founder of Detained in Dubai, which is supporting the teen's family. 'He is barely an adult himself and never intended to break any law. What happened was legal in the UK and consensual. 'But now he is facing permanent damage to his mental health and future prospects because of it.' Prison conditions are reportedly taking a toll on Marcus, who is said to have only limited contact with his family. His parents have made repeated appeals to David Lammy MP, and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. They have also requested the British Embassy in Dubai to help secure his release. Radha said: 'If Marcus could go back in time, he would. He has shown remorse and fully respects the laws of the UAE. He only hopes the government will show compassion and allow him to return home to rebuild his life. ‌ 'He's very young and this is a heartbreaking way to begin adulthood.' The family is urging the British public and authorities to back their plea for clemency. They have warned of the legal risks young Britons face in countries with vastly different legal systems. Radha added: 'Parents need to be aware that teens can be charged in the UAE for behaviour that would not be considered criminal at home. Whether that's a relationship, social media activity, or even drinking alcohol. 'Marcus is struggling, and this experience will leave a permanent scar. We implore Sheikh Mohammed and the government of Dubai to hear his pleas and let him come home.' Marcus continues to pray that his voice will be heard, with pardons expected to be finalised this month.
