Former Italy national team head coach Roberto Mancini visited Sampdoria's training ground on Wednesday, but has clarified that he does not have an official role with the Serie B outfit, that he is a 'fan first' and that he is still on the lookout for new opportunities as a head coach.

Earlier in the week, Sampdoria confirmed that Leonardo Semplici had been sacked, and that former Italy national team assistants and former players Alberico Evani and Attillio Lombardo had replaced him as head coach and deputy respectively.

Andrea Mancini, Roberto's son, has also returned to Sampdoria as sporting director, while reports claim that the former CT will act as an unofficial advisor to owner Matteo Mandredi.
Sampdoria are currently in the midst of a relegation scrap in Serie B and are at risk of a second relegation in three years, with the dormant giants currently in 18th place on 32 points with six games of the 2024-25 season remaining.

While there is an obvious connection between Mancini and the new Sampdoria staff, not ignoring his 15-year playing career in Marassi, he has released a brief statement online clarifying that he is not currently employed by the Serie B side.
'I am denying the information that has come out in recent days regarding my roles as a consultant, advisor or head of performance at Sampdoria,' Mancini wrote in a statement on X, formerly Twitter.
'I am a fan first, and I hope they can solve their problems. I hope to return to my job as a head coach as soon as possible.'

Official: Pippo Inzaghi leaves Pisa despite promotion to Serie A
Pippo Inzaghi has officially parted company with Pisa after just one year where he took the club to promotion into Serie A. The former Milan, Venezia, Bologna, Benevento, Brescia and Salernitana boss took the job last summer and steered them to second place in Serie B. Advertisement That meant automatic promotion along with Sassuolo, while Cremonese got the third spot via the play-offs. (Photo by) After 23 wins, seven draws and eight defeats, Inzaghi decided to leave Pisa regardless of their step up to the top flight. According to multiple reports, he will remain in Serie B and be appointed the new coach of Palermo, as the Sicilian side paid the €1m clause to release him from his Pisa contract. Inzaghi turns 52 in August and had already earned promotion from Serie B with Benevento in 2020. As for Pisa, they are back in Serie A after an absence of 34 years and the candidates to take over next season include Alberto Gilardino. Curiously, newly-promoted Cremonese are also currently without a coach.

Filippo Inzaghi leaves Pisa after Serie A promotion
Filippo Inzaghi has left his role as Pisa head coach after leading the club to their first Serie A promotion in 34 years. Inzaghi had his contract mutually terminated after just one season in charge. Following successive mid-table finishes in Serie B, he led the club back to the top flight with a second-place finish in 2024-25 , 10 points clear of third-place Spezia. Advertisement Pisa's promotion was the second time Inzaghi has led a side back to the Serie A after his Benevento side went up as champions of Serie B in 2019-20. Inzaghi's departure comes amid widespread change in the coaching departments of Italian clubs. His young brother, Simone, left Inter to join Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal earlier this month after failing to secure a trophy during 2024-25. Cristian Chivu was appointed as Inter's new head coach after the club lost the Champions League final by a record 5-0 margin to Paris Saint-Germain. Gian Piero Gasperini, who led Atalanta to their 2024 Europa League win, replaced Claudio Ranieri as Roma's head coach, while Massimiliano Allegri succeeded Sergio Conceicao in the Milan dugout after failing to secure European football. Fiorentina head coach Raffaele Palladino had his contract terminated following a sixth-placed finish in Serie A, while Maurizio Sarri has returned to Lazio. Inzaghi's coaching career began at Milan, where he scored 126 goals in 300 matches during his playing career. He took charge for the 2014-15 season and recorded a 10th-placed finish. The 51-year-old had subsequent spells with Venezia, Bologna, Benevento, Brescia, Reggina, Salernitana and most recently Pisa, but has never spent more than two seasons with the same club in that time. The former Italy international is his nation's joint-sixth highest goalscorer of all time, with 25 goals in 57 international appearances during his playing career.

'It's fair to say that if Gravina and I had talked more often during those weeks, to clear things up, none of this would have happened. Sometimes, wrong decisions are made. 'It's true that I no longer felt the same level of trust as before, but I should have spoken to the president about it,' Mancini continued. Advertisement 'I could have done that, and it's my fault. Today, who knows, we may still be working together, trying to reach the World Cup. Maybe, after winning the Euros for a second time.' Mancini is confident he'd find a way to clear the air with FIGC President Gabriele Gravina. 'I don't think it would be a problem,' argued Mancini. 'We already met and spoke in the past. Football Italia understands that Gennaro Gattuso, a 2006 Italy World Cup winner, is now the leading candidate to replace Luciano Spalletti as Italy coach. The former midfielder has already spoken to Italy Delegation Chief Gianluigi Buffon.
