Jailed physiotherapist now accused of falsely claiming Rs 22.5 lakh mediclaim

Rajkot: A physiotherapist already behind bars for fraudulently facilitating a Rs 40 lakh mediclaim for a tea vendor using forged medical documents is now accused in a second, similar case. Ankit Kathrani, the accused, allegedly claimed Rs 22.5 lakh in 2022 by submitting fabricated medical certificates and diagnostic reports, falsely citing a brain stroke. While the claim was processed in 2022, the irregularities came to light only recently when a private insurance company re-examined his records following his arrest in the earlier case. The company lodged the complaint at Gandhigram police station on Wednesday. In April, Kathrani was arrested for allegedly assisting Mayur Chhuchhar in creating fake medical records to claim Rs 40 lakh. Speaking to TOI, Srinivas Narsaiya, the complainant and a senior company official, said, "On Aug 31, 2022, Kathrani submitted forged brain MRI reports and medical papers of an imaging centre to claim he was suffering from a cerebrovascular accident or CV stroke. He took the insurance policy against his home loan, which covered critical illness and death." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 'Niemals Botox!' The remaining amount was transferred to Kathrani's bank account. After Kathrani's arrest in April, the insurance company which approved his personal claim of Rs 22.49 lakh in 2022 reviewed the case and found irregularities. Upon reopening the case, the company discovered that the MRI report was fabricated. On April 29, 2025, a senior executive of the imaging centre confirmed in a written communication to TPA that no MRI scan was conducted for Kathrani on the specified date. He also submitted fake medical documents, allegedly issued by a private hospital in Rajkot. ACP (west), Radhika Bharai, said, "We have initiated an investigation to identify others who may have been involved in this fraudulent activity along with Dr Kathrani. We will seek his custody from jail for further interrogation."

Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe accuses PSG of 'moral harassment'; legal probe underway

Mbappe left PSG to join Real Madrid ahead of the 2024/25 season (Photo by) France captain Kylian Mbappe has filed a legal complaint accusing former club Paris Saint-Germain of "moral harassment", according to the Paris prosecutor's office, which confirmed on Thursday that an investigation into the matter has been opened. The 26-year-old, who officially joined Real Madrid this summer after a prolific seven-year spell with PSG, is also in a legal tussle with the French champions over unpaid dues. Mbappe is seeking €55 million ($64.4 million) in unpaid wages and bonuses from the club. Mbappe's latest grievance stems from how he was treated during the early stages of the 2023–24 season. According to the complaint, the striker was excluded from the first-team setup and made to train separately with players PSG were actively looking to offload — a move he believes was punitive after he declined to extend his contract with the club. The issue echoes broader concerns about contract-related coercion in football, a topic that has previously drawn attention from the French players' union, which lodged a formal complaint in a similar context last year. He was later reinstated to the first team following talks with the club's hierarchy. The legal action adds another layer of tension to Mbappe's departure from the French capital, where he scored 256 goals in 308 appearances and won numerous domestic titles. Notably, PSG lifted the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history just weeks after his exit. What India are doing in Birmingham today, practice schedule, plan and more The outcome of the investigation could have significant implications for both Mbappe's claims and the club's management practices, particularly in how high-profile players are treated during contract disputes. Actor Soubin Shahir gets anticipatory bail in ‘Manjummel Boys' cheating case

Kochi: Actor Soubin Shahir, his father Babu Shahir and Shawn Antony, the producers of the hit Malayalam movie 'Manjummel Boys', have been granted anticipatory bail by high court in a financial cheating case related to the film's production. The bench of Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas on Thursday held that custodial interrogation of the petitioners was not necessary, noting that the case involved elements of a commercial dispute. However, HC granted limited custody of the petitioners to facilitate the investigation and directed them to appear before the investigating officer on July 7 and 8 for interrogation. The officer may interrogate them between 10am and 5pm, and in the event of arrest, they shall be released on bail, the court ordered. The case stems from a complaint filed by Siraj Valiyathara of Aroor before the Ernakulam magistrate court, alleging that Parava Films LLP, owned by the accused, had solicited his investment for the production of 'Manjummel Boys'. As per an agreement dated Nov 30, 2022, he invested a total of Rs 7 crore through multiple transactions. Despite the commercial success of the film, the petitioners allegedly failed to honour the profit-sharing agreement. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Top Public Speaking Course for Children Planet Spark Book Now Undo According to the police report, although the film grossed Rs 286 crore, the accused failed to pay Siraj his rightful share of profits, amounting to Rs 40 crore. While considering the anticipatory bail plea, HC observed that the relationship between the parties primarily falls within the realm of a business transaction and that the resulting dispute lies in the commercial sphere. However, since another single bench had already declined to quash the proceedings, the court noted that it cannot be treated as a purely commercial dispute and acknowledged that an element of criminality appears to exist. Based on this, and after considering the need for custodial interrogation, the bench granted anticipatory bail to the petitioners.
