Beloved celebrity hairstylist, 27, dies during day's boating on Lake Michigan
A celebrated hairstylist died after falling off a yacht in Lake Michigan, leaving her loved ones heartbroken as they grapple with her untimely death.
Zahrie Walls, 27, was boating with her friends near Navy Pier in Chicago when she toppled from the vessel into the water at around 5:30pm on Saturday.
She was unresponsive when she was pulled from the lake and first responders rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was tragically pronounced dead.
Police are still investigating her death. It remains unclear how the beloved stylist fell off the boat, but her mother believes the lake's strong currents made her lose her grounding.
'Anybody can lose a battle with Lake Michigan,' Kizzy Wells, Walls' mother, told the Chicago Sun Times. 'Those currents don't play fair.'
A friend, who rented the boat, invited Walls to come with her and spend the day in the sun, Wells said.
'I felt in my heart that something wasn't right,' she told the outlet, recalling the moment her daughter's friend called her and said Walls was going to the hospital.
Chicago Fire Department's Jason Lach revealed to the Chicago Tribune their rescue team had to respond to at least two dozen water-related calls over the weekend, which included pulling people from the water and putting out boat fires.
Other than Walls, Lach said at least two other people died in the water.
The devastated mom described Walls as a hard worker and provider whose 'whole focus was to take care of her family.'
The Chicago-based hairdresser and owner of Z Style Suites was known for her clientele of celebrities and influencers.
With more than 76,000 Instagram followers, Walls' page is flooded with her patrons' glamorous end results after she styled their hair.
Her mother revealed Walls' love for hair started while she was in high school, when she would practice on her best friend, Kenneka Jenkins.
Jenkins horrifically passed away at 19 years old in 2017. Her body was found in a freezer at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.
Since Walls' sudden death, Instagram and Facebook have been flooded with tear-jerking tributes to her.
'I woke up to this and couldn't help but [wonder] why you, you will be missed truly,' one woman wrote.
'I love you forever my sister one of the greatest friends I've ever had in my life I'm so sorry,' another said.
'I love you so much princess I'm so so confused and hurt...I'm crying I'm saddened so many emotions it's hard to focus.'
On Sunday, dozens of people crowded around Walls' salon for a balloon releasing ceremony to honor her life and achievements.
'I knew she was special when I first gave birth to her,' Wells said through her tears at the event.
'I was only 19 years old, and I didn't want my baby to struggle like I did. I supported her in every way.'
Video shows guests holding yellow, gold and white balloons before letting them go up into the sky.
Walls died during Black Yacht Weekend, an annual 'celebration of community, culture, and connection' in Lake Michigan, according to the event's website.
In a Sunday statement addressing the fatal incident, organizers said Walls was not connected to the event or in its area when she fell into the water.

Radio host Paul Harvey's estate sues Paramount over 'Landman' voiceover
June 23 (Reuters) - The estate of radio host Paul Harvey sued Paramount Global (PARA.O), opens new tab in New York federal court on Monday for allegedly featuring a segment from his longtime program "The Rest of the Story" in the Paramount+ TV show "Landman" without permission. The estate said, opens new tab that Paramount misused a 90-second segment from a Harvey monologue on rising gas prices in the opening segment of a "Landman" episode. The complaint also said the makers of "Landman" edited Harvey's monologue to make it appear to support the oil industry, even though the full segment criticized government fossil-fuel policies and endorsed alternative fuels. Spokespeople for Paramount did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the complaint. The estate's lead attorney Jaime Wolf of Pelosi Wolf Spates said the producers of "Landman" "had no right to falsify the late Mr. Harvey's message and turn him into an unwitting shill for big oil." Harvey, who died in 2009, was a fixture of American radio. His signature program, "The Rest of the Story," aired from 1976 to 2008. Paramount's "Landman," which began airing last year, is a drama set in the oil fields of West Texas produced by "Yellowstone" co-creator Taylor Sheridan. According to the complaint, the show's tenth episode opens with the recording of Harvey's 2008 segment "Gas Crisis," in which he said that gas prices are "deliberately manipulated by governments and certain corporations to advance broader agendas." The lawsuit said that the estate's lawyers attempted to contact Paramount in March but never received a response. The estate asked the court for an unspecified amount of copyright infringement damages. The case is Paulynne Inc v. Paramount Global, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, No. 1:25-cv-05206. The comments section was filled with people commenting about the current tensions between the US and Iran. 'As long as Kai is still posting and not in a bunker we chill,' commented one. 'Tell your grandpa to stop bro i dont wanna die,' wrote another. 'Hopefully mums on phone to Grandpa telling him to calm down. I'm stressed all the way from Australia. Tell him to chill,' a third wrote. It comes after Vanessa and Tiger, 49, officially debuted their romance. That announcement came 10 days after exclusively broke the news that the golf icon was dating Donald Trump Jr.'s ex-wife. On March 23, Woods posted pictures with Vanessa on his Instagram and X accounts. One snap showed them posed in front of a vine-filled wall and another of them cuddling on a hammock. 'Love is in the air and life is better with you by my side! We look forward to our journey through life together. At this time we would appreciate privacy for all those close to our hearts,' the caption, written by Woods, read. Their relationship has not only received the blessing from Kai, but also from Vanessa's former sister-in-law Ivanka Trump. Ivanka commented on Tiger's post, 'So happy for you both' while adding several emojis with love hearts. Vanessa was previously married to Donald Trump Jr, with the couple tying the knot in 2005 before they eventually went their separate ways 13 years later. She and Don Jr. have five children together, with Tiger recently spotted alongside their eldest daughter Kai at the PGA Tour's Genesis Invitational event earlier this year. Woods made his return to a golf course earlier this month as he continues rehabbing an Achilles injury from earlier this year. The golfing legend was spotted riding around in a golf cart at BallenIsles Country Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. He was there not to play himself, but to watch along as his son Charlie competed in the Florida State Golf Association's 108th Amateur Championship.
