Tiger Woods and his advice to son Charlie revealed as Rory McIlroy becomes key figure

15-times major winner wants his boy to emulate fellow Grand Slammer
Aussie golf pro Mark Allen reckons Tiger Woods ' son Charlie is following dad's advice to ignore his style and instead copy Rory McIlroy.
The 15-times Major champion had a game that was the envy of the world as he stormed to successes during his prime and now his boy has set out on the professional golfing path.

But, despite all his glory and his success, Woods Snr would rather see Charlie, who is currently competing in the Team Taylor Made Invitational, copy to the technique of McIlroy and not himself.

Talking to fellow Aussie pro Nick O'Hern on the Talk Birdie to Me Podcast about the swing balance of Scottie Scheffler and the work of his coach Randy Smith, Allen, who played an Open at Carnoustie, recalled: 'It's funny, that advice that you give people, that's exactly the advice that Tiger Woods gives his boy.
So I've heard Tiger Woods say this a couple of times, don't watch me, watch Rory.
"Because Rory hits it as hard as he can, as long as he middles it and as long as he finishes balanced, that's the skill that I want you to develop.
'Every time I watch Tiger's son Charlie swing the club, every time they put him on the telly or I see it on a post, he's got a Rory McIlroy follow-through where it's incredibly balanced.
"It is a fantastic tip for 99 per cent of golfers. But Randy Smith, he was clever enough from the start to understand the make-up of Scottie Scheffler and know very well that that tip is just not for him. So a coaching masterstroke.'

Woods first made the statement in 2022 at the Hero World Challenge.
He said: 'I told [Charlie], Don't copy my swing. Copy Rory's. Have you ever seen Rory off balance in a shot?
"Not ever. That's one of the things my dad instilled in me, is that you should be able to balance and hold your finish until the ball rolls and stops.

"You can swing as hard as you want, but you need to have balance.'

I told Nygren to turn down Euro giants, here's how he'll do at Celtic

The Parkhead club are said to have beaten Belgian side Anderlecht to the signing of Nygren, who scored 16 goals in 32 games for Nordsjaelland last season. Read more: And now, Mats Gren, who was previously sporting director at Swedish side IFK Gothenburg, has revealed that Nygren had trials at Inter Milan, AC Milan and Bayern Munich, along with a club in England. Instead, he chose to join Genk in a £4 million deal. Gren recently spoke to SunSport: "We took him into the first team at IFK and he was fantastic in pre-season and started to play," he said. "When someone that young begins to play regularly then of course there is a lot of interest in them from around Europe. "Benjamin always had a really nice touch on the ball and great skills. "During that time, he travelled to so many big clubs for visits. They all wanted to sign him. "He was at both of the Milan clubs in Italy, he went to England and also visited Bayern Munich. "There were so many options for him but in the end, he decided to go to Belgium and sign for Genk. "I had a lot of discussions with his father at that time and I told him, 'Go to a club where he has a chance to play'." Nygren appears set to become Brendan Rodgers' second summer signing, and Gren believes he has what it takes to succeed at Parkhead, much like several of his Swedish predecessors: "I am not surprised that there is interest in him now and I think Celtic would be a good next step for him," he said. "I know all about Scottish football. I played against Rangers in the Champions League with Grasshoppers. "I have also been to Scotland to visit places like Glasgow and Edinburgh on holiday. "It's a nice country and I have watched a lot of the football there. "Moving to Britain would be a sensible next step and he would also have the chance to play European football at a high level. "You look at Celtic's history and there have been a lot of Swedish players who have done well there. "Henrik Larsson, Johan Mjallby and Mikael Lustig have all done extremely well and maybe Benjamin can be the next one. "The style of Scottish football really suits Swedish footballers and I am sure he would do well at Celtic."

Odsonne Edouard to Celtic transfer return given thumbs up but one major stumbling block cited

French Eddy has been deemed surplus to requirements at FA Cup-winning Crystal Palace Scott Allan insists Celtic shouldn't think twice if an opportunity arises to re-sign Odsonne Edouard. Brendan Rodgers has already brought returning heroes Kieran Tierney and Jota back to Parkhead after stints elsewhere. ‌ Edouard, 27, flopped on loan at Leicester City and has no future at Crystal Palace as he enters the final year of his deal. ‌ The former PSG striker - who swapped Celtic Park for Selhurst Park in a £14million transfer four years ago - was prolific in Glasgow. Rodgers even labelled the Frenchman as one of the best young players he had worked with after shelling out a then-club record £9m to turn his season-long loan into a permanent deal in 2018. And when asked if he should be on Celtic's radar this summer, Allan told Clyde 1 Superscoreboard: "I would, yeah. Fantastic player. It's obviously a position that Celtic will be looking to add to. "I think we might see Daizen Maeda go back out to that wide area, where he was so effective in terms of his pressing and getting up and down the pitch. "He'll be looking to add to his goal tally come next season. I think there's no question that it's an area of the park where Celtic need to strengthen." ‌ A potential stumbling block could be Edouard's lucrative salary at the Eagles, something Allan believes could be a deal breaker. The ex-Hoops midfielder said: "I think the problem with the boys that are playing in the Premier League is that there's now the chance to go to the Saudi League where they can earn ridiculous amounts of money. "The Kieran Tierney one is completely different because he's a huge Celtic fan and he's been dying to get back home and probably feels like he's got unfinished business at Celtic. ‌ "So it'll be interesting but I do feel that Celtic will be looking to find the next Odsonne Edouard where they can get a tune from them and then make money from them."
