When is the next holiday in the UAE? Here's what we know so far

Filipino Times10-05-2025

Aren't you curious about when the next holiday in the UAE is? With Eid Al Fitr now over, many are already eyeing the next long weekend, so here's what to expect.
Based on the Islamic calendar, the UAE's next public holiday is predicted to begin on June 5 (Thursday) for Arafat Day, followed by Eid Al Adha from June 6 (Friday) to 8 (Sunday).
If the predictions are accurate, this could mean a four-day weekend for many, especially for those who already have Saturdays and Sundays off. What is Eid Al Adha?
Eid Al Adha is one of the most important holidays in Islam, observed about 90 days after Eid Al Fitr. Since Islamic holidays follow the lunar calendar, their exact dates depend on moon sightings.
In the UAE, Eid Al Fitr began on Sunday, March 30, after the crescent moon was sighted on March 29. Counting 90 days from that date in the Islamic calendar, Eid Al Adha is expected to fall on Friday, June 6. What comes next after Eid Al Adha?
After Eid Al Adha, the next expected holiday will be the Islamic New Year on Friday, June 27. Prophet Mohammed's (PBUH) birthday is also expected to fall on Monday, September 1.
Later in the year, UAE residents will also get time off for Commemoration Day and Union Day, with two days off confirmed for December 2 and 3.
However, exact dates will still depend on official announcements.

Islamic New Year 2025: When will the official date be announced?

Waiting for the next UAE public holiday announcement? Well, the Islamic New Year is set to fall on Thursday, June 26, but we will receive confirmation from UAE officials on the evening of June 25, as this holiday is tied to the moon sighting. Islamic New Year is also referred to as Hijri New Year and marks the start of the Islamic lunar year (the first day of Muharram), which is based on the sighting of the new moon. It won't be a long weekend, but it will bring you a mini-break from your workweek. The Islamic calendar is based on the moon, unlike the Gregorian calendar, which is based on the sun. Each Islamic month begins after the sighting of the new crescent moon. The visual sighting of the new moon is a crucial part of tradition and is usually done by trained observers. What is the significance of Hijri New Year? Hijri or Hijiri comes from the Arabic word Al Hijra meaning 'flight' or 'migration' and it marks the day that Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) travelled from Makkah to the city of Al Madina El Monawara, in the Gregorian calendar year of 622AD. What other public holidays are there in 2025? If you're curious, there are more public holidays after the Islamic New Year. Prophet Mohammed's (PBUH) birthday will then fall on Friday, September 5, 2025. If it is a confirmed holiday by the UAE, this means we will get a three-day-long weekend (for those of us who have a two-day weekend). After September 2025, our next public holiday is in December for Commemoration Day and UAE National Day. Commemoration Day falls on Monday, December 1, and UAE National Day will follow directly after on December 2 and 3 which are Tuesday and Wednesday. Which means, if you enjoy a two-day weekend, you will have a lovely five-day-long weekend. However, we will have to wait for the official announcements, so stay tuned to for the announcements. In numbers: Dubai processes over 629,000 travellers during Eid holiday

Image: Dubai Airports Dubai saw a surge in passenger traffic over the Eid al-Adha holiday, with authorities reporting more than 629,000 travellers crossing through its borders. The figures reflect the emirate's position as a global transit and residence hub. Major General Talal Al-Shanqeeti, assistant DG of the Air Ports Sector, affirmed that the figures recorded during the Eid holiday reflect Dubai's steadily growing position as a preferred travel hub for passengers from around the world — thanks to the seamless coordination on the ground and the activation of smart systems across all entry points. 'We have made it a priority to ensure a seamless travel experience through smart gates and artificial intelligence technologies, which have contributed to speeding up procedures and improving the flow of movement.' He also emphasised that the travel experience has become part of our commitment to enhancing quality of life, in line with the Dubai government's approach to providing flexible services that meet individuals' expectations and enhance the readiness of its institutions. Here's a breakdown of the movement and what it says about Dubai's travel readiness: Total travellers during Eid: Between June 5 and June 8, 629,559 passengers arrived or departed through Dubai's air, land, and sea ports. Dubai International Airport led the traffic: 581,527 travellers passed through Hatta border crossing also saw high activity: 46,863 travellers crossed via the Hatta land port during the holiday period. Maritime ports handled modest traffic: 1,169 travellers entered or exited through Dubai's seaports. The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) credited strategic coordination across the aviation and border sectors for managing the high volume with efficiency.
