TOKYO (Jiji Press) — Japan's Daihatsu Motor Co. released on Thursday the fully revamped Move minivehicle, the company's first new model since July 2022, hoping to make a turnaround in the market.
Daihatsu had suspended new vehicle releases since its testing scandal came to light in April 2023.
At the launch event in Tokyo, President Masahiro Inoue apologized again for the scandal.
'We've established a foundation to tackle problems with the Toyota group as a team,' Inoue said, adding that the release of the new Move is 'the first step in our restart.'
The seventh-generation Move, which has gone through the first full model change for the popular brand in 11 years, targets senior drivers. It is the first Move model equipped with sliding doors, making it easier to get in and out.
Safety features are also enhanced with systems such as brake control to prevent sudden acceleration caused by pressing the wrong pedal.
The price starts at ¥1,358,500 . The monthly sales target is 6,000 units.

Japan FTC Warns NPB over Fuji TV Press Pass Denial

News from Japan Jun 11, 2025 17:19 (JST) Tokyo, June 11 (Jiji Press)--Japan's Fair Trade Commission warned the Nippon Professional Baseball Organization, or NPB, on Wednesday over its confiscation of press passes from Fuji Television Network Inc. The antitrust watchdog said that such moves could violate the antimonopoly law, urging the NPB to prevent any recurrence. Fuji TV broadcast a digest of the Major League Baseball World Series, in which Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani appeared, during the same time slot as a game of the Japan Series professional baseball championships that was aired live by a rival broadcaster. The Japan Series ran from October to November last year. The NPB confiscated Fuji TV's press passes for the Japan Series, saying that the broadcaster's actions seriously damaged its relationship of trust with the baseball governing body. According to the FTC, Fuji TV's coverage activities, including for the Japan Series hosted by the NPB, were restricted from Oct. 26 to Nov. 10 last year due to the confiscation. Japan, Tokyo Govts Decide Not to Appeal Ohkawara Case Ruling

News from Japan Society Jun 11, 2025 16:30 (JST) Tokyo, June 11 (Jiji Press)--The Japanese central and Tokyo metropolitan governments Wednesday decided not to appeal a recent court ruling in a damages lawsuit that found investigations into spray-dryer maker Ohkawara Kakohki Co. were illegal. The company is expected not to appeal the Tokyo High Court decision as well. The ruling, which also ordered the governments to pay a total of 166 million yen in damages, is set to become final Thursday. Tokyo's Metropolitan Police Department and the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office expressed their apologies for the heavy burden they had placed on people related to the company. The Tokyo police set up a team headed by the deputy superintendent-general to examine problems with the investigations and work out measures to prevent a recurrence. The prosecutors office also said that the Supreme Public Prosecutors Office will conduct probes. In March 2020, the Public Security Bureau of the Tokyo police arrested Masaaki Okawara, CEO of the company based in Yokohama, south of Tokyo, and two others for allegedly exporting without permission a spray dryer that could be repurposed to weapons production, in violation of the foreign exchange law.
