Karnataka: Srirangapatna bans tourist entry, riverbank rituals amid flood risk; KRS reservoir set to release surplus water

MANDYA: The Srirangapatna taluk administration banned the entry of the tourists to several tourist destinations on the banks of river Cauvery in the taluk, and various rituals on the river bank especially post-death rituals in Paschima Vahini, Gosai Ghat and other places.
According to the authorities, as there is heavy rain in the catchment area of KRS Reservoir water level is reaching the full storage level. There is a likelihood of releasing surplus water between 30,000 to 50,000 cusecs and this may be increased at any moment. Hence, the public advised against venturning near the river bank.
In his order, Parashurama Sattigeri, Srirangapatna tahsildar banned entry of tourists and public into Karekura, Ranganathittu, Wellesley Bridge, bathing ghat in Srirangapatna, Nimishambha Temple, Sangam, Ghosai Ghat, Paschim Vahini from 6 AM on Wednesday till further orders.

As per the order, conducting of worship services such as ritual of immersing the ashes or remains of a cremated person, Hindu ritual of offering pinda (rice balls or offerings) to the deceased's soul and ancestors, etc at Paschima Vahini, Sangam, Ghosai Ghat, bathing ghat, GB Hole and other places on the banks of the
Cauvery River
in Srirangapatna also banned.
