‘Used iPad the whole day, but never for social media': Madhya Pradesh teen explains how he got 3rd rank in JEE Advanced 2025
Monday was a day of celebrations at Burhanpur in Madhya Pradesh, with local boy Majid Mujahid Husain, 17, securing all-India rank 3 in JEE Advanced 2025, scoring 330 marks out of 360.
Majid, who wants to pursue Computer Science at IIT Bombay and specialise in artificial intelligence, was gifted a new motorcycle and a phone by his family in recognition of his achievement.
On his preparations for the exam, he said, 'I started preparing seriously in class 10 with some self-study. For two years, I worked really hard and focused on consistency.'
His father, Mujahid Hussain, teaches at a university in Jalagoan, and his mother, Sakina Mujahid Hussain, is a homemaker.
'It is a proud moment for every parent. If you help fulfil your child's curiosity during their studies, it gives them a strong foundation,' Sakina said.
Majid initially studied at a local school in Burhanpur and later enrolled in a residential school. He also attended a private coaching institute to prepare for competitive exams. His daily routine included 12 hours of study — a strict schedule that he followed for two years.
He credited his teachers, coaching institute, and disciplined study methods for his success. 'I think something new has happened with me managing to crack these exams from Burhanpur. I hope my hometown grows into a Kota (a coaching hub located in Rajasthan) and becomes the next hub of competitive exams,' he said.
To prepare for the exam, Majid said he avoided distractions, using his iPad exclusively for studying and limiting his phone usage to one hour a week to talk to family members. To cope with stress, he practised meditation and took occasional breaks.
'I had the help of gadgets like the iPad, which I used the whole day, but never for social media,' he said. 'I never imagined I would get rank 3. I feel very happy.'
Looking ahead, Majid said he wants to become a software engineer and work in the field of artificial intelligence.
On cracking the JEE, he said, 'There is no shortcut to success. You need two years of focused preparation. If you study for 12 hours with a synchronised plan, you can crack these exams.'

IIT Bombay Revises Eligibility Criteria For MBA Admissions, Check Details
IIT Bombay's Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management (SJMSOM) has made a big change for its MBA program starting with the 2025-27 batch. Now, students with a 3-year bachelor's degree in any subject (like arts, commerce, science, or more) can apply. Earlier, only students with a 4-year degree (mostly engineering) or a master's degree were eligible. This new rule is a step towards inclusivity, giving students from different backgrounds an equal chance to apply and succeed in the program. New Eligibility Criteria for MBA 2025-27 (Indian Candidates): To apply for the MBA programme, candidates need to meet the following requirements: Bachelor's degree: A bachelor's degree with at least 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PWD candidates) or a minimum CPI of 6.5 (6 for SC/ST/PWD candidates) from a recognized Indian university or institution. Recognised institutions: The degree should be from institutions incorporated by an act of parliament or state legislature, deemed universities under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, AICTE, AIU, or a reputed foreign university. Final year students: Candidates in their final year of degree or awaiting results can also apply, but they must have secured an aggregate of 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PWD candidates) or equivalent in their latest completed exam. Valid CAT score: Candidates should have a valid CAT score. Admission: Admission will be subject to fulfilling the eligibility criteria. 'Be Consistent': How Mumbai's Sahil Deo Went From Rank 102 In JEE Mains To AIR 7 In Advanced?
Last Updated: JEE Advanced AIR 7 Sahil Deo also hails from a family of engineers. While his father is an engineer at Mahindra, his brother graduated from IIT Delhi and works at Goldman Sachs. 'Being consistent is the key", says 18-year-old Sahil Mukesh Deo who grabbed the seventh spot in the JEE Advanced 2025, the results of which were released on Monday. However, it was no mean feat for Sahil who was quite demotivated after his JEE Mains 2025 exams held in February and April. He had scored an All India Rank of 102. But it was his love for science and motivation by his teachers that kept him going. After securing more than 99 per cent in his 10th boards from Wisdom High International School, Nashik, Sahil, shifted to Mumbai in class 11 to prepare for the JEE Advanced. It was his love for computer applications that made him take up engineering. 'I have always been interested in science especially the application part such as computer science and mathematics. Coding is something that grabbed my attention. Hence CSE at IIT Bombay is a natural choice," the youngster said. He joined Narayana in class 11 for his JEE preparations. While Sahil scored 285 marks in JEE Main session 1, he got 270 marks in session 2. However, he proved that once you set your goals, nothing can stop you and made a comeback in the IIT entrance exam by securing 321 marks out 360 or AIR 7 in JEE Advanced. 'Mains did not go very well for me. The final rank was 102 and I had lost a lot of confidence after that. My teachers really motivated me. They had explained how JEE Mains and Advanced are different exams. Hence, I had to keep myself motivated," Sahil told News18. Talking about his preparation process, he said, 'While I kept no track of how long I studied, I would continue with my preparations at anytime I could. After returning home from classes in the evening, I would relax for sometime, watch some YouTube videos, and then get back to study. Again, take break during dinner time and go back study. It's more about consistency. It's the key. Study whenever you get the chance to and create those opportunities more often. Don't let it slip and think so now I can relax." He had also appeared for Chemistry, Physics and Astronomy Olympiads in 12th standard. 'I was also selected for the Indian National Olympiads in the second level however couldn't crack the third level as I did not really prepare for it," he said. Besides, Sahil also hails from a family of engineers. While his father is an engineer at Mahindra, his brother graduated from IIT Delhi and works at Goldman Sachs. His mother is a housewife.
