The Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) has arrested SA Police Service Crime Intelligence (CI) boss Major-General Dumisani Khumalo in connection with alleged unlawful senior appointments.
News24 understands that Khumalo was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport on Thursday afternoon. Three sources with direct knowledge of the events confirmed the arrest to News24.
It is the second time senior CI officers have been arrested in the space of two weeks by IDAC officers.
Earlier this month, Major-General Philani Lushaba - CI's chief financial officer as well as two CI officers - Colonel Glen Hudson and Colonel Eugene Pitout - together with police detective Captain Jonny Mogashwa were arrested in connection with an alleged cover-up of a burglary at Lushaba's home.
His state firearm, cellphone and laptop were taken by a sex worker whom he had brought back to the house in February 2022. Lushaba is believed to have made misleading statements to the police initially in an attempt to hide the circumstances of the theft.

Mogashwa was the initial investigating officer, and Hudson and Pitout are believed to have assisted Lushaba in the cover-up by changing statements in the docket and retrieving the stolen items.
As a result, they are facing 10 charges for corruption, defeating the ends of justice, and perjury. All four were granted bail and told to hand over their passports.
Khumalo will be transported to a police station in Pretoria, where he will be processed.
