Muscat – Global energy investment group OQ signed 13 renewable energy agreements worth over US$2bn during Oman Sustainability Week 2025 on Monday, marking a significant step in its efforts to support the sultanate's net zero goals for 2050.
The agreements, signed by Ashraf bin Hamad al Mamari, CEO of OQ Group, and Najla Zuhair al Jamali, CEO of OQ Alternative Energy (OQAE), involve project development partnerships, financing arrangements with local banks and equipment supply contracts to accelerate clean energy projects.
'These agreements mark a strategic advancement in OQ's renewable energy leadership and reflect our unwavering support for Oman's 2050 net zero goals,' Mamari said. 'Recognising clean and sustainable sources as the future of energy, we're collaborating with national and international partners to establish new investment opportunities in clean energy infrastructure.'
The deals cover major projects including high-capacity solar and wind installations in Suhar and Duqm, such as the Riyah-1 and Riyah-2 plants and the North Oman Solar Project. These facilities will supply clean power to the national grid and oil and gas production sites under long-term offtake agreements, significantly reducing carbon emissions.
As part of its broader decarbonisation strategy, OQ also signed a deal with Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries to conduct pre-feasibility studies for carbon capture technologies across its assets in Oman. The partnership will assess the full CO₂ value cha-in, from capture and transport to utilisation and storage, to build commercially viable business cases.
The agreements extend to major industrial clients including Jindal, Vale Oman, Oxy and United Solar Polysilicon, ensuring secure renewable power supply as they transition to more sustainable operations.
The deals also emphasise industrial localisation, with a focus on boosting in-country value through partnerships like one with Voltamp for local transformer manufacturing, supporting Oman's goal to become a regional clean energy hub.
OQAE's Najla said, 'These agreements operationalise our strategy to promote renewable energy and accelerate the transition to a low-emission economy. These partnerships demonstrate international confidence in OQ's capabilities and investment framework as we expand our portfolio of high-quality projects.'

Oman's industrial exports surge 8.6 percent to $4.2 billion in Q1 2025 on electrical equipment manufacturing

Oman's industrial exports witnessed a remarkable 8.6 percent increase during the first quarter of 2025, reaching OMR1.618 billion ($4.2 billion), in comparison to OMR1.490 billion ($3.9 billion) during the same timeframe in 2024, according to recent data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information . Industrial exports constituted 28 percent of Oman's total exports, highlighting the increasing contribution of the industrial sector to the national economy and the country's efforts toward economic diversification. This growth was propelled by strong performances across various industrial sectors, particularly the electrical equipment and machinery manufacturing sector, which recorded an outstanding growth rate of 141 percent, with its exports surging to OMR128 million compared to OMR53 million in Q1 2024. The metal products sector followed closely, posting a 14.1 percent rise in exports, reaching OMR462 million, driven by the growing international demand for high-quality Omani products. Enhancing competitiveness of Omani products Eng. Khaled Salim Al Qasabi, director general of Industry at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, remarked that these favorable outcomes reflect the robustness and diversity of Oman's industrial sector. He stressed the ministry's ongoing implementation of integrated industrial policies designed to enhance the competitiveness of Omani products in both regional and global markets while bolstering industrial exports. In statements to Oman News Agency (ONA), he noted that the electrical equipment and machinery sector is witnessing rapid growth due to escalating local and regional demand, fueled by infrastructure expansion projects—especially in electricity networks, utilities, and new cities—alongside increasing investments in renewable energy-related industries. He affirmed that this sector is prioritized under Oman's Industrial Strategy 2040, given its significance in developing supply chains, enhancing value-added economic activities, supporting entrepreneurship, and localizing advanced technologies. Jassim Saif Al Jedidi, technical director at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, underscored ongoing efforts to bolster the presence of Omani products in regional and global markets—a central objective of the industrial strategy and a cornerstone of economic diversification under Oman Vision 2040. Speaking to ONA, he elaborated that these initiatives encompass qualitative efforts to improve the efficiency and quality of national products by aiding local manufacturers in complying with the highest technical standards and international certifications. This not only enhances competitiveness but also boosts consumer confidence in Omani products. He added that the ministry, in collaboration with relevant entities, is striving to open new markets for Omani exports by activating regional and international trade agreements, participating in trade exhibitions and missions, and providing incentives and facilities for Omani exporters. Furthermore, the ministry is promoting knowledge-based and advanced technology industries, including artificial intelligence and Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies, which are pivotal in enhancing product quality, minimizing costs, and achieving sustainable industrial growth. These initiatives contribute to fortifying the national economy, creating quality job opportunities for Omani talent, and positioning Oman as an emerging industrial and logistics hub in the region.

Industry consumes over half Oman's gas output

Industrial projects consume more than half Oman's gas production of nearly 150 million cubic metres per day while the rest feeds oil wells and power facilities. Oman produced nearly 18 billion cubic metres of natural gas in the first four months of 2025, an average 150 million cubic metres per day, almost unchanged from output levels in the same period of 2024. Production in the first four months of this year included nearly 13.8 billion cubic metres of non-associated gas and the remaining quantities were associated gas produced from key oil fields in the Sultanate. Oil Ministry figures published by the National Centre for Statistics and Information at the weekend showed nearly 9.3 billion cubic metres of the produced gas were directed for industrial projects, including Oman's main LNG plant in the Southern port of Sur, where more than 10 million tonnes of LNG is produced annually. Around 4.2 billion cubic metres of the produced gas were used in the injection of oil wells while 4.3 billion cubic metres fuelled power facilities. The rest was allocated for industrial zones across the Gulf nation. Oman, which is not an OPEC member, controls around 25 trillion cubic feet of proven gas reserves, which could run out within 18 years at current production levels in the absence of new major gas discoveries. Oman's gas deposits are dwarfed by its Gulf neighbours, mainly Qatar which controls the world's third largest recoverable gas reserves of around 25 trillion cubic metres (875 trillion cubic feet). Oman also has around 4.5 billion barrels of extractable oil deposits and produces close to one million barrels per day. (Writing by Nadim Kawach; Editing by Anoop Menon) (
