Mayo nursing home residents experience virtual tour Irish heritage sides
Global VAM, a Belmullet-based XR company that specialises in creating immersive experiences, worked closely with the OPW on the initiative at St Attracta's, which allowed them to virtually tour sites including the Céide Fields, the Battle of the Boyne, Newgrange and Kilkenny Castle.
General Manager St Attracta's Residence, Trina Donohue, described the initiative as 'a resounding success'.
' This development in technology has amazing potential for those who are unable to travel as much as they did before and can really bring the world into their home.'
This initiative, in recognition of 'National Arts in Nursing Home Day' is part of a broader programme of events taking place at OPW sites across the month of May for the annual Bealtaine Festival.
Minister of State for the Office of Public Works, Kevin 'Boxer' Moran said that on Friday, 23 May, all fee-paying heritage sites across Ireland will offer free admission to senior citizens, to encourage 'greater engagement with Ireland's rich cultural and historical heritage'.

Former Jungle vocalist Andro has released his new single, A Little Harder. We asked him the BIG questions . . . The track is from the London-based solo-artist's upcoming EP, Broken Limerence. Having spent years as a vocalist with Mercury-nominated and Brit Award winning neo-soul band Jungle, Andro's solo material blends together the neo-soul roots of his past, whilst showcasing the 80s infused Pop and R&B influences that define his signature sound. Speaking about the new track, he says: " A Little Harder is about emotional whiplash - that kind of intense, confusing relationship where love feels weaponised. "It touches on vulnerability, betrayal, and how giving too much of yourself too soon can backfire. There's anger here, yeah, but also heartbreak and a longing.
