Bangerter Hwy to close this weekend for sewer work, delays expected

Yahoo2 days ago

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — The Utah Dept. of Transportation is urging drivers to plan ahead as major lane closures are scheduled for Bangerter Hwy. this weekend. Construction crews will be doing sewer work in the area, according to UDOT.
UDOT said to expect 'significant delays' on Bangerter Hwy. as southbound lanes will be completely closed from 12600 South to 2700 West this weekend. The closure is expected to last from 10 p.m. on Friday, May 30, through 5 a.m. on Monday, June 2.
UDOT recommends that drivers detour via 12600 South and Redwood Rd.
Here are other travel restrictions happening this weekend:
One lane closed on westbound/northbound Bangerter Hwy. between 2700 West and Redwood Rd.
No north or southbound travel on 2700 West at Bangerter Hwy.
No right turns for semi-trucks on southbound 2700 West onto westbound/northbound Bangerter Hwy.
'Both Bangerter projects in this area are nearing some significant milestones,' a UDOT press release states. 'Bridge beams at 13400 South are scheduled to be placed next week and the bridge deck of the 2700 West bridge will be poured early this summer.'
UDOT has been working to get rid of stoplights on Bangerter Highway by converting intersections into interchanges. The department is currently focused on making these changes to 4700 South, 9800 South, 13400 South, and 2700 West.
'Bangerter Highway is one of the Salt Lake Valley's largest north-to-south corridors, moving an average of 60,000 vehicles per day,' the release states. 'Removing stoplights and converting all intersections into freeway-style interchanges will enhance safety and help keep traffic moving in the thriving west side of the Salt Lake Valley.'
In the future, stoplights from 4100 South to California Avenue will also be removed, according to the department. These changes will be a continuation of the effort to help the flow of traffic through this corridor.

Rescue team saves hiker 100 yards deep in Lava Tube cave at Snow Canyon State Park

IVINS, Utah (ABC4) — A rescue team lifted a hiker that was 100 yards deep in a Lava Tube cave at Snow Canyon State Park on Saturday. On May 31, crews from Santa Clara-Ivins Fire & Rescue, along with Washington County Search & Rescue, responded to Snow Canyon State Park to rescue an individual stuck 100 yards deep in a Lava Tube cave. The rescue was considered technical — requiring a High Angle Rope Rescue team to extricate the individual. The rescue took around four hours to complete, officials said. Crews conducted another rescue the same day. A hiker had reportedly ran out of water in triple-digit temperatures. This heat-related emergency took around one hour to complete, officials said. Record-challenging heat gives way to unsettled weather Sunday night through Tuesday

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Happy Sunday, Utah! It's another sizzler of a day with record-challenging heat in the north. Northern and central Utah will run a few degrees warmer than yesterday while the south cools a few degrees. Sunday's highs will climb into the low and mid 90s for northern and central parts of the state, 80s in high terrain and southern valleys, and upper 90s to low 100s for the hottest spots in southern and eastern Utah. A few places could very easily get into record territory, Salt Lake City is forecasted to hit 95° which would break the 2020 record by a single degree. We'll have a mix of sun and clouds today with high-based thunderstorms popping up in the southern mountains around lunchtime. By the evening, more moisture pushes into the state bringing spotty showers to the West Desert and possibly the northern mountains. There's a chance that St. George and the Wasatch Front see an evening thunderstorm, but with a dry layer of air near the surface, much of it will evaporate before reaching the ground making for gusty winds at times. Monday has the highest chance of wet weather across the state, but southern and eastern Utah will be favored. On Monday morning we'll see showers on the Wasatch Front and we could see them bubble up again with the heat of the day, but by then most of the moisture will centered over eastern and southwest Utah. Monday also knocks temperatures back into the 70s for most of us and low to mid 80s for the warmest areas. Another low pressure system is hot on this system's heels, so that'll keep showers locked into the south through Tuesday, possibly Wednesday. After that we start warming back up, reaching the 90s in St. George and 80s for most valleys by the latter half of the workweek.
