Austrian Grand Prix prediction & F1 betting tips: Bounce-back performance from Norris
F1 is back in Europe this weekend, with the first race of this stretch taking place in Austria, through the picturesque Styrian mountains.
Oscar Piastri goes into the race with 22-point lead in the Drivers' Championship over his McLaren team-mate Lando Norris and 43 ahead of current world champion Max Verstappen.
Verstappen has a great record at Red Bull's home race, winning five times at the Red Bull Ring, but some betting sites price him at 7/2 to add to his tally as they anticipate a weekend dominated by McLaren.
Round 10 was one to forget for Norris, whose mistake during the closing stage of the race in Canada left him admitting he had 'made a fool' of himself.
With the McLarens travelling in fourth and fifth with three laps to go, Norris collided with his team mate, and although Piastri was able to continue without any damage, Norris broke his suspension, costing him 10 precious championship points.
After finishing second to Verstappen in the 2024 Drivers' Championship, Norris is once more in danger of having to the bridesmaid once more behind the more consistent Piastri, who is odds-on for the title on betting apps.
Norris has has finished second in three of his last five races, twice to Piastri and once to Verstappen. The 25-year-old also won in Monaco, which was his second victory of the season and first since the season opener in Australia.
F1 betting sites are offering 9/4 on him winning in Spielberg, just behind his McLaren teammate, who is the favourite at 13/8.
The Red Bull Ring is a tracxk Norris knows well having achieved his first ever podium finish in Austria back in 2020, finishing third behind Valtteri Bottas and Charles Leclerc, while the Brit also clocked the fastest lap time that day.
He also finished third the following season, behind the winner Verstappen and second placed Bottas and may be capable of delivering the perfect response to his Canada accident.

Mercedes driver George Russell was victorious last time out at the Canadian Grand Prix, taking the chequered flag ahead of Verstappen and Kimi Antonelli after a controlled drive.
The Brit is another driver who has happy memories of this tracck having won last year's race in Austria when he took advantage of Verstappen and Norris colliding while contesting the lead.

We are in the picturesque Styrian Hills of Austria and are all set for qualifying for the Austrian Grand Prix. It has been two weeks since the last race in Canada, won by Mercedes' George Russell, which saw the two McLarens collide, with Lando Norris crashing out and current drivers' championship leader Oscar Piastri finishing fourth. That result means Piastri heads into this weekend 22 points clear of Norris. McLaren, who lead by 175 points in the constructors' standings, have brought an upgraded front suspension to their car this weekend. Friday was a special day for Irishman Alex Dunne, who took part in first practice in Norris' McLaren and impressed finishing fourth, under a tenth off Piastri in the other McLaren. Dunne is currently leading the F2 Championship and did test McLaren's 2023 car in Texas last week in preparation for this run-out. Speaking after second practice yesterday, Norris, who topped the timesheets in both second and third practice, was full of praise for Dunne. 'The car felt good from the off. Alex gave good feedback this morning [yesterday] after FP1 and he was on the pace straight away, so it was good to see. I think they moved the car in the right direction for FP2, and we just need to understand whether we want more of that [on Saturday], or a little bit less, or somewhere in the middle. So good steps in the right direction, but still a little bit more to come hopefully. We have shown a bit more pace than some of the others. I certainly think they are going to catch up. Max is not far behind and they usually improve a lot into Saturday.' After topping second practice yesterday, Norris was also fastest in third practice earlier. McLaren are not the only team to bring upgrades to their car for this weekend; Red Bull have a new floor edge whilst Ferrari have a completely redesigned floor. Friday was a tough day for Lewis Hamilton, who had gearbox issues in practice one before impeding Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli in second practice. The seven-time world champion did escape serious punishment, receiving just a warning for 'unnecessary impeding'. A lot of the talk going into the weekend surrounds the futures of Verstappen and George Russell. Verstappen has been linked with a move to Mercedes, with their boss Toto Wolff confirming conversations are being had. The Dutchman is under contract at Red Bull until 2028 but it is believed to have break clauses which Verstappen could use. Verstappen and Russell have come to blows on a number of occasions on and off the track, including as recently as the Spanish Grand Prix where the two collided on track, but Wolff has said he would be happy to pair the two drivers together. Max Verstappen has revealed the heart-warming reason why he hasn't gone to see the new F1 film which stars Brad Pitt and was produced by Sir Lewis Hamilton. Directed by Top Gun: Maverick 's Joseph Kosinski, F1 tells the story of a veteran racing driver (Pitt) who returns to Formula 1 to drive alongside a hotshot rookie played by Damson Idris. Remarkably, the $300million (£218m) budget movie was filmed in and around the F1 paddock over the past two seasons, with real-life drivers and team members making cameos. Seven-time world champion Hamilton serves as a producer on the film, helping to coach the actors on the track and consulting on the race scenes and dialogue in order to make it as authentic as possible. However, Verstappen, arguably the sport's biggest name and best driver, has tried to keep his involvement in the project to a minimum. The Telegraph report that the four-time world champion, who has been linked with a shock move to Mercedes, declined to film a scene in a nightclub with Pitt. The 2025 grid were invited to a special screening of the film ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix, which every driver attended aside from Verstappen and Aston Martin's Lance Stroll, with the Dutchman also absent for the official premiere in New York last week. But when asked why he skipped the premieres, the Red Bull driver had a pretty good reason, telling The Sun: 'Being authentic is not something I have to try and focus on. It's just who I am. 'I don't like to be on the red carpet and dress up in a suit. I don't like to interact with people that I don't really know, and have a fake smile and fake chat. It's horrible, I just don't enjoy it. 'I prefer to hang out with my friends and spend time with my little family. I also have a lot of other projects going on outside of F1.
