Lightning acquire Bjorkstrand, Gourde from Kraken in 3-team swap

Reuters05-03-2025

March 5 - The Tampa Bay Lightning acquired forwards Oliver Bjorkstrand and Yanni Gourde on Wednesday as part of a three-team swap.
The Lightning sent two conditional first-round picks (2026, 2027) and forward Michael Eyssimont to the Seattle Kraken. The first-round picks are top-10 protected. The Lightning also received a 2026 fifth-round pick from the Kraken.
"Oliver and Yanni were tremendous players for our organization who led by example on and off the ice, and I wish them all the best in their next chapter with the Lightning," Kraken general manager Ron Francis said. "Decisions like these are never easy, but creating this valuable cap space and draft capital allows us to be active in improving our team moving forward."
As part of the swap for Gourde, the Detroit Red Wings sent unsigned defenseman Kyle Aucoin to the Kraken. The Red Wings then shipped Gourde to the Lightning for a conditional 2025 fourth-round pick. The Red Wings retained 50 percent of Gourde's salary.
Bjorkstrand is in the fourth season of a five-year, $27 million contract ($5.4 million AAV) he signed with the Columbus Blue Jackets in January 2021.
Bjorkstrand, 29, has 37 points (16 goals, 21 assists) in 61 games this season. The 2023-24 All-Star has 375 points (167 goals, 208 assists) in 606 career games with the Blue Jackets (2015-22) and Kraken.
Gourde, 33, has 17 points (six goals, 11 assists) in 36 games this season. He just returned Tuesday from a sports hernia injury that had sidelined him since Jan. 2.
He returns to Tampa, where he spent his first six NHL seasons and won back-to-back Stanley Cup titles in 2020 and 2021. The Kraken selected him in the 2021 expansion draft. Gourde has 333 points (132 goals, 201 assists) in 581 career games.
Eyssimont, 28, has 10 points (five goals, five assists) in 57 games this season.
Heading into Wednesday's action, the Lightning are the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference. The Kraken are 11 points behind the Calgary Flames for the second wild card in the Western Conference.

Shane Williams MBE to take part in Wales Air Ambulance event

On Sunday, September 7, Shane Williams MBE will take part in the 'Cycle 100km for the Wales Air Ambulance' fundraising event. The 2008 World Rugby Player of the Year has been showing his support for the all-Wales Charity following a partnership announcement last year with his sportswear brand, Agilis. Last year's event saw nearly 100 participants. (Image: Wales Air Ambulance) Shane said: 'I am very proud to say that myself and Agilis will be working in partnership with Wales Air Ambulance. 'Obviously, it's a fantastic Charity and cause, we've all seen the great work that they have done, how amazing they are and the difference they make to a lot of people's lives, so I am very proud to be associated with them on this adventure.' The ex-Welsh and British and Irish Lions rugby legend will cycle from Cardiff to the Charity's headquarters, in Dafen, Llanelli along with other participants. Like last year, after leaving Cardiff, cyclists will head towards Bridgend, pedal through Port Talbot and pass through Swansea before finishing their Cycle 100km. Despite the wet weather, last year's event saw nearly 100 participants, including some crew, saddle up whilst raising funds for the all-Wales Charity. It's the second mass-participation cycle event the Charity has hosted, and whether you're a seasoned cyclist or a first-time racer, the event is all about having fun, enjoying the scenic views and raising vital funds for the lifesaving charity. Cycle 100km is aimed at having fun, enjoying the scenic views and celebrating the local cycling community. Entry costs £100 per participant and includes a Wales Air Ambulance cycling jersey, which must be worn on the day of the event. Participants will have the chance to meet Shane and some of the crew, will receive a bespoke event medal and have support along the route at dedicated feed stations. Nina Rice, Head of Fundraising – High Value Partnerships for the Wales Air Ambulance, said: 'We are delighted to announce that after last year's success we Cycle 100km for Wales Air Ambulance event is back. 'Last year we were pleased with the turnout of our first mass-participant fundraiser for our lifesaving Charity. Fingers crossed the weather is a little kinder this year, but if not, it won't dampen our spirits. 'We really appreciate the support of everyone who took part last year and would be delighted if they entered again this year. 'This is a wonderful opportunity for cyclists, who would like to set themselves a challenge, to get together and achieve a personal goal, whilst raising funds for the charity.'

Down can top All-Ireland group and feed off Croke Park buzz, says ex-skipper

Former Down captain Mark Poland sees no reason why the Mournemen can't beat Monaghan to top their All-Ireland group on Sunday, and has praised manager Conor Laverty for 'pulling everyone together'. Laverty's side have won their two opening matches of the group stages, thus ensuring their progression in the Championship, but if they beat the Oriels then they will top the group and qualify automatically for the Quarter-Final stages.

Chelsea vs LAFC betting tips: Blues to get off to winning start in Club World Cup

Chelsea vs LAFC betting tips Chelsea face LAFC in Atlanta on Monday night in both clubs' opening match of the 2025 Club World Cup, with the Blues looking to build on a successful end to 2024/25. Enzo Maresca's side enter the new competition off the back of securing Champions League qualification and the Europa Conference League trophy, and the Italian will be looking forward to testing his side against some of the world's best this month. Chelsea aren't among the favourites for the competition – priced around 11/1 to win outright – but fans will be eager to see how they fare against a range of unusual opposition in the USA. And the first test comes against LAFC, the LA-based club that was only founded in 2014. The American side are currently in the middle of their own domestic season, sitting in fifth in the Western Conference, but are seen as heavy underdogs to get a result. Football betting sites are pricing Chelsea as 1/3 favourites, with LAFC offered at 17/2 and a draw priced as high as 15/4. Chelsea vs LAFC tips: Blues to earn straightforward win Despite a season that threatened to collapse at points late on, Chelsea rallied and put together some excellent form in the final few weeks as they secured fourth place in the Premier League and won the Conference League. The Blues have lost just once in their last 10 matches (2-0 away to Newcastle) but have conceded 10 goals in that time too, though several have been during big wins – such as the 4-1 wins over Real Betis and Djurgarden. LA have only lost one of their last 10 too, though they have managed five draws in those games and have conceded 16 times. But such is the gap between the two leagues that Chelsea obviously start as heavy favourites, with LA never having faced such a quality side in a competitive fixture in their entire history. While the timing of the match means it will likely be closer than otherwise anticipated, even a Chelsea side containing several second-string players should have more than enough to win and keep a clean sheet. And with that in mind, we're backing Chelsea to win to nil, which is offered at 13/10 with William Hill. Chelsea vs LAFC prediction 1: Chelsea to win to nil - 13/10 William Hill Chelsea vs LAFC prediction: Delap to net on debut As has been the case with several Premier League clubs, Chelsea have long been looking to add to their squad with a striker who will guarantee goals in the league. But unlike some of their rivals, the Blues have acted quickly and grabbed a potential bargain, with Liam Delap joining from Ipswich in a deal worth around £30m earlier this month. Delap scored 12 league goals for an Ipswich side who were eventually relegated last season, but he showed enough to impress some of the league's big clubs and was also a reported target for Manchester United and Newcastle. And having not played during the recent international break, the 22-year-old could make his debut for the club against LA. He'll be especially eager to impress during the tournament too, as he'll no doubt face competition for places with Nicolas Jackson, alongside another potential striker signing arriving later in the summer. And we're backing the youngster to make a good impression on his debut, with various betting sites offering odds of 6/5 on Delap to score anytime. Responsible gambling If you're having a bet on the Club World Cup, it's vital to practice responsible gambling. When using gambling sites be aware that sports betting can be addictive. Please take steps to remain in control of your time and budget. The same applies whether you're using bookmakers, slot sites, casino sites, casino apps, betting apps, or any other gambling platform. Even the most knowledgeable punter can lose a bet, so always stick to a budget and never chase your losses. It's particularly important not to get carried away by any free bets or casino offers you might receive, both of which are available in abundance on gambling sites, but must be approached with caution. You can stay in control by making use of the responsible gambling tools offered, such as deposit limits, loss limits, self-exclusion and time-outs.
