Indore Couple On Honeymoon Goes Missing In Meghalaya, Bags Found In Bushes; Search On
Last Updated:
The Indore couple was on honeymoon when they went missing in Meghalaya six days ago. Searches have been underway in dangerous cliffs and forests near Shillong.
An Indore-based newlywed couple – Raja and Sonam Raghuwanshi – disappeared during their honeymoon six days ago in Meghalaya. The search operation for them was held in the dangerous cliffs and forests near Shillong, the officials said.
The family has also announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh for anyone who comes up with information about their whereabouts.
Raja was a 30-year-old transport businessman, who had married Sonam merely weeks ago. The duo embarked on their honeymoon on May 20, where Guwahati was their first stop.
After a two-day stay in Guwahati, they left for Shillong on May 23, which was when the family last heard from them.
The family members said that the mobile phones of the couple were switched off after their last conversation.
The fear turned into panic when the couple's rented scooter was found abandoned near Osara Hills in Sohra Rim — a far-off area known to be dangerous and linked to criminal activity. Two of their bags were later found partly hidden in bushes inside a nearby gorge on Tuesday.
Even with bad weather and difficult terrain, more than 50 people — including police, local villagers, and the village defence team — have been working hard to find the missing couple.
Trying to trace the couple's last steps has been deeply troubling. They had visited the well-known Double Decker Living Root Bridge in Nongriat village, which takes several hours of trekking. They reportedly spent the night nearby and were last seen having tea at a small roadside stall the next morning. After that, they disappeared.
The places where their scooter, bags, and last tea stop were found are far apart, making the situation even more puzzling.
The authorities are now narrowing down their search near a gorge close to the Root Bridge, nearly 50 km from the capital city of Meghalaya.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Thursday said that he was personally monitoring the case of the missing couple.
'It looks like after leaving the bike there, they have gone off-road to hike. The area that they went to, both sides have hiking treks, they are very steep. Keeping in mind the monsoon season, the area is very slippery. The search area is very, very big. We are working very hard to trace them. We are hopeful that we will be able to find them," he said.

Procedural lapses in drug case, court acquits man
Mumbai: Observing that in cricket, the benefit of doubt goes in favour of the batsman, likewise, every benefit of doubt in criminal cases goes in favour of the accused. In yet another case of procedural lapses, a special NDPS court on Thursday acquitted a 39-year-old man, 16 years after he had been accused of possessing and intending to sell 25 kg of a party drug, methamphetamine, worth Rs 3 crore at Goregaon (E). The accused, Veer Bahadur Singh, absconded after his bail was cancelled by the Supreme Court. He was finally rearrested in 2023. "Due to the mixing of the contents of seven packets and again nine packets each before drawing any representative sample from each polythene bag, not only was the sanctity of the case property in the individual packet lost, but also the evidence as to how much each individual container weighed is also lost. Therefore, flouting of the above guidelines has caused prejudice to the accused as the punishment provided for the offence alleged is based on the quantity of the contraband recovered," the judge said. The judge stated that when the recovery of the contraband from the conscious possession of the accused after following all the procedural safeguards is not proved, there is no cogent, clinching, and reliable evidence about the fact that the accused conspired to procure, transport, or possess the contraband or abetted the commission of the offence. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Advanced Strategic Management IIMK ASMP Apply Now Undo On Jun 8, 2009, at 5.45 pm, Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) received a tip that a car was to transfer about 25 kg of methamphetamine to a taxi later in the evening. An NCB team began surveillance at the spot, and at 8.50 pm, a taxi arrived, followed by the car. Three individuals, later identified as three accused, exited the car, carrying a carton and a maroon trolley bag. They transferred these items to the taxi's trunk after the taxi driver, Singh, opened it. NCB officers surrounded the taxi and caught the four. On inspection, the maroon bag contained seven packets, and the carton contained 18 packets of a white crystalline substance. Field tests confirmed the substance was methamphetamine. Each of the 25 packets weighed 1 kg. The contents were combined into three main bags, weighing 7 kg, 9 kg, and 9 kg from which 5-gram samples were taken for further analysis. It was alleged that one of the accused provided information about another who allegedly arranged the transfer and another who manufactured the drug in Patiala. A total of seven accused were arrested in the case. In two other trials conducted earlier, the other accused were acquitted.

To avenge insult, Sambhajinagar industrialist Ladda's close friend & employee tipped off dacoits about valuables and cash at his bungalow: Police
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Police investigations revealed a significant development in the armed dacoity case at industrialist Santosh Ladda's residence on May 15. Police said Balasaheb Ingole (46), Ladda's trusted employee and friend of 20 years, provided crucial information about valuables and cash at the bungalow, along with details of Ladda's USA trip for his son's convocation ceremony, seeking revenge for a perceived insult. He was arrested on Saturday. Police have caught 10 suspects: Yogesh Hajbe (31) from Wadgaon Kolhati, Suresh alias Suryakant Gangne (45) from Beed, Syed Azharuddin (37) from Ranjangaon, Sohel Shaikh (22) from Beed, and Mahendra Bidve (38) from Sajapur. Amol Khotkar, a primary orchestrator of the dacoity, died in an encounter between Monday and Tuesday. The court granted police custody for these suspects until June 10. Additional arrests included Devidas Shinde (45) from Wadgaon Kolhati on Friday, followed by Ingole, Mahesh Gorade (26), Ganesh Gorade (22), and Ajinath Jadhav (23) on Saturday. These individuals remain in police custody until June 6. The perpetrators absconded with 5.5 kg of gold, 32 kg of silver, and Rs 70,000 in cash. The crime branch and MIDC Waluj police teams recovered only 32gm of gold jewellery. Police commissioner Pravin Pawar told TOI, "We were able to trace the reverse linkage in this case and found that to avenge an 'insult' by Ladda, Ingole tipped off the criminals on Ladda's foreign tour and the large amount of valuables and cash stashed in the bungalow." Investigations showed that Ingole joined Ladda's manufacturing unit in 2006, becoming both an employee and confidant, assisting with household matters. This position granted him extensive knowledge and access to the household. Deputy commissioner of police (Crime) Prashant Swami said Ladda had reprimanded Ingole in Dec 2024 for alleged inappropriate behaviour while intoxicated. "Ingole took this insult to heart and decided to teach Ladda a lesson, and found the opportunity when the Ladda family planned a tour to the USA from May 7 to 22," said Swami. Further investigation revealed that Ingole shared information with Ajinath Jadhav, who informed Ganesh Gorade, an employee at Mahesh Gorade's medical store. Mahesh relayed this to Devidas Shinde, who contacted Yogesh Hajbe, a known criminal. Hajbe assembled the group, including Khotkar, at his lodge to plan the armed dacoity. Shinde and Hajbe conducted surveillance of the bungalow. Police have now seized both the moped and the car used in the crime.
