Kentucky Derby 2025 frequently asked questions answered
In this episode of The Best Two Minutes with Ed DeRosa, he explains what to know about Kentucky Derby, including post time, horses and infield seats.
The Kentucky Derby isn't the only major race at Churchill Downs in the coming days, with the Kentucky Oaks among horse racing's biggest occasions.
The 1 ⅛-mile race race for three-year-old fillies comes with a $1.5 million purse (with the winner's share set at just under $850,000), with the winner also claiming the famous garland of lilies. The winning trainer is presented with the silver Kentucky Oaks Trophy.
Good Cheer, who has not lost a race in six starts, is the clear favorite in the 14-horse field, with the filly continuing a trend of trainer Brad Cox's stable producing the top horses for the Oaks. However, the favorite didn't claim victory in 2023 or 2024, leaving the door open for what figures to be an eventful race on Friday.
Here are odds for the 2025 Kentucky Oaks, along with how to watch the race:

Who is Mason Howell? What to know about US Open high school amateur Show Caption Hide Caption Rory McIlroy on motivation after Masters win Rory McIlroy admits he didn't expect how hard it would be to find motivation after his Masters triumph. USGA The 2025 U.S. Open is less than a day away from the start of the first round, and the anticipation is building. The world's top golfers are preparing to compete for the prestigious title at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, and this year they are joined by 17-year-old Mason Howell. Howell qualified for the tournament by posting an impressive 18-under par during a local qualifying event at Piedmont Driving Club in Atlanta, a highly competitive event that is part of a series of qualifying opportunities held nationwide. As a high school junior (graduating in 2026), Howell is now the youngest golfer in the 156-player field. He will tee off on the 10th hole alongside Chris Gotterup and Joakim Lagergren. If Howell manages to make the cut after the second round, he will join an elite group of only three golfers who have ever achieved this feat at this age, making him the third youngest to do so. He would be the first since Michael Thorbjornsen, who was 17 years and 8 months old when he made the cut in 2019. More: US Open winners by year: Complete list of champions Who is Mason Howell?
